As glad as I am to be back at school because I love being in the classroom, the unexpected snow day was honestly the best. Except now I keep getting the following conversation, to varying degrees:

Student: Ms. Hondo, if we get snowed out tomorrow, do we have to turn in the homework?
Me: I don't think we have to worry about that. It's supposed to be relatively warm.
Student: That's what they said when we got over a foot of snow.
Me: ... Do your homework.

And I can't even argue that.

TOBIAS

I wouldn't say no to another snow day, for the record.

I'm sorry I haven't been checking in enough recently. I'm a terrible friend. How are you both doing? We should get together. I can make dinner!

Someday there will come a time when an important milestone passes where my immediate thought isn't along the lines of it being the first time I've been able to celebrate it in Dunhaven, rather than via video messaging from whatever location overseas I happened to be at the time, and that was just if I was very lucky. It's a bittersweet thought and I look forward to having years of memories with my family to look back on for those days.

In the meantime, though, it felt very good indeed to get to be here as our Hana celebrated turning three today. I missed her birth and only just missed her second birthday, so being here to watch her eat cake and open presents and just be her normal, goofy self was a treat beyond words. I'm glad to know that I'll be here for the birthdays to come, too. ( Cut for image! )

This is the first birthday I've celebrated in a long time where I have not only been stateside for it, but I'm home. Not to get too sentimental, but I believe I've earned it after all this time -- being woken this morning by my girls squealing and jumping on my bed might just have been the best birthday gift I could have ever asked for. It's a pretty good start to being 33.

For folks who didn't make it out yesterday- or even if you did, since we didn't talk about it much, wanting to do it here... The idea was brought up about extending an invitation to others in town who might have similar experiences to us, but in their own dreams. This could be a separate monthly meeting entirely, if we want to keep our current group just to those of us who are veterans in, well, real life.

Starting tomorrow, Stella's will have a new special dish on the menu called the #fiance. It consists of spicy chicken and cheddar waffle sliders with jalapeno jam. Add a narwhal-shaped pastry on the side for a truly special meal that is both savory and sweet. And delicious, just like my man, Everett Marshall.

And a quick shout-out to one of my other favorite local haunts, The Pourhouse, where you can end your day with my favorite, the Soon-to-Be Stella Marshall, aka the jalapeno mojito. (I just made that up so you should probably just ask for a jalapeno mojito.)

Halloween night remains one of my favorites. I don't know how it's only been two years, but being your mom is one of my very favorite things in the entire world, Jonas. We made a pretty great trio of superheros the night I met you. I hope you never grow out of enjoying Halloween to the fullest. To me, it will always be our day.

I apologize if this is overstepping, but with the recent post, I just wanted to, you know, say hello. Before I met Stella, I went a long time without knowing very many people who were dreaming about the same world as me. It's such a strange and unique connection, especially since that world itself is rather difficult sometimes, so I wanted to just open the door. I've had moments where having more that understood could have been more bearable and I doubt that I'm alone in that. If anything, I just wanted to offer myself for support, if you ever do need it.

Though, I realize now that not all of you know me. My name is Evan Meadows and I'm dreaming about Inej Ghafa. I have been for just about a year now.

I would love to meet you all, but I would understand if you're not all comfortable with meeting up. If that is something that people would be interested in, though, maybe we can arrange something.

For example, it might look like:

Just leave a note here, anonymously or not, letting me know the name of who you are dreaming about and anything else you want to mention. If you want YOUR name attached to it, as well, for shared dreamers to more easily get in touch with you, let me know. Otherwise, I'll attach your Anon ID so that others can filter you anonymously!

The girls and I had so much fun doing the Scavenger Hunt today! We very much did not win, and Hana mostly found everything except what we were looking for, but it was a really good time and Emi learned a lot. We should do these more than once per year!
