Mock-election 2.0

MOCK ELECTION!

IN-GAME, POLLS CLOSE AT 7 PM.
However, as I'm only putting this up now and I'll be out/offline from about 4-god knows when your guys' time...
Polling will close tomorrow (Saturday) at 7 pm EST.
Have a character who wishes they could vote, but isn’t old enough to? Several Hogwarts students are manning a mock polling station for the second time this year in the Entrance Hall. If your character’s feeling civic-minded — or just wants to troll the fake booth — come on by and fill out a ballot. Voters of all ages are welcome, if your 17+ chars just couldn’t stop at the one ballot.

If you haven’t already, please review the information on the candidates and then cast a ballot for any of your Hogwarts chars who want to participate.

To vote, please copy/paste the following ballot template and reply in the comments with each of your voting characters. You will note that each section of the template has a capital “X” five times. Delete the “X” in every section but the one for the candidate your character is voting for.

WHAT: Lol, you need to keep taking Potions to be an Auror, Harry.

The insistence of Headmaster after Headmistress after Headmaster on offering mandatory Careers Advice to every fifth year, year after year, was very possibly an exercise in advanced administrative sadism, Minerva suspected. This was not to say that she didn't understand the value of such a meeting, particularly in choosing one's NEWT courses. However, it was difficult to maintain a detached, professorly air when the increased need for Order activity had seen Minerva with less and less time and thus less and less sleep, and, furthermore, she had a lurking suspicion that Potter and Black would resoundingly fail to take this seriously. She had, to her credit, warded her office against Dunbombs for the occasion — any Gryffindor who entered with one on their person would find themselves suddenly suspended in mid-air, in her doorway — but still, it had only been two years since CJ Costantin had spent the entirety of his Careers Advice flirting with her, and she wasn't quite ready to find out what Potter had prepared yet. She strongly suspected she would not be prepared for several years.

Careers fair!

WHO: The students and staff of Hogwarts, as well as some select guests representing their careers of choice.
WHEN: February 28, 1976
WHERE: The Great Hall.
WHAT: Careers Fair! Feel free to do wee mini-threads if you want. This is also the day after Hudson streaked across the pitch. Sirius is kind of tempted not to prank today, James.

There was no denying that Minerva McGonagall was unspeakably pissed. It had been a hard year all around, both for serious and less serious reasons. As a professor and Head of House, Minerva had been repeatedly appalled by the behaviour of her students, from Potter's imbecilic attack in Potions in September through Costantin's several infractions through the endless curfew-breaking and debauchery. She had been infinitely more appalled by the things that had happened to her students, from Brownless's attack on Lyle and Costantin through the attack on Bones through the death of Jedediah Dunne, far too young to die and part of a group of students Minerva was unlikely to forget if she lived to Dumbledore's age or older. And, as an Order member, she had been overworked and overtired, slightly terrified by the news of Dorcas Meadoweses' recruitment (nearly of an age with Jedediah, and not someone Minerva particularly wanted to put into danger), overcome with the knowledge of how utterly outnumbered they were, and plagued by a mounting sense of dread with every new day Septimus Malfoy remained in power.

She was, in other words, not in the mood for her students' shit.

The set up had gone well enough, but Minerva knew that was only the beginning of the day's work. She patrolled the edges of the fair, pausing to exchange a comment with a colleague here and an old friend there, ready to execute the prompt removal of any trouble-makers at the first sign of idiocy.

WHEN: Yesterday after dinner.
WHERE: The once and future Hogwarts theatre, which has been cleaned extensively from its decades of disuse.
WHAT: The first rehearsal of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Rupert began the rehearsal by giving some basic Shakespearean context and explaining the overall plot of the play, having the club members give the answers whenever possible.

After the background, he had everyone split up into groups: the tech crew, the Athenians (Theseus, Hippolyta, Egeus, Lysander, Demetrus, Hermia, Helena and Philostrate), the Fae (Oberon, Titania, Puck, Peaseblossom, Cobweb, Moth, and Mustardseed) and the Mechanicals (Peter Quince, Nick Bottom, Francis Flute, Robin Starveling, Tom Snout and Snug the Joiner). He had the tech crew begin brainstorming the things they would need to develop for the show. He had each of the groups of actors go through their lines and rewrite them in modern English, to help reading comprehension. They were encouraged to help each other with their translations.

When everyone had finished their interpretations, he organized everyone into a large circle, and they did a read through of the original text, hopefully using the understanding they had gained from their translations.

LOG: Music Club's First Meeting

FORMAT: IC/OOC Log, threaded. Here is a good example of an IC/OOC log from a game Cait and I were in, it's good for things we don't want to/are too lazy to write out entirely (parties, meetings, Benjy's world domination potluck), but should be plotted anyway.
WHO: The Music Club
WHEN: Last Sunday
WHERE: A classroom... somewhere...
WHAT: The first meeting of the Music Club!

With Professor Fontail and probably Devin's help, Tim had set up the classroom to look hospitable, with lots of big cushions and chairs and things, and lugged a some crates of records in. There's a record player, a piano, and a few other instruments in a corner, as well as some snacks. Tim looked very nervous but also excited to start up the meeting, and waited even for people who were late to begin.

When Tim saw that everyone had sat down he gave a little talk to the effect of, "Hi! I'm um. Tim, if you didn't know. I'm really happy you guys all wanted to join the club. It's going to be really fun, I hope, and we can kind of make it into, um, basically whatever we want it to be. Which is pretty cool. So I have a bunch of records here, most of them are mine but a lot of them are Neil's (thanks, Neil), and uh, I thought we could put one on? Does anyone want to start?"

Tim left the floor open for people to put on the (approved by Dumbledore) records, and play music if they wanted it. Discussion veered away from music a lot of the time, but Tim gently tried to bring it back when it went on particularly strange tangents. Professor Fontail went off to go commune with spirits or something in the middle of the first song, saying she'd be back soon, and left the club to their own devices. She reappeared only towards the tail end of the meeting.
