Prompt 12: Cooking

I enjoy cooking very much. It is something that can be very relaxing, and enjoyable when done with many things, the more complicated and longer it takes the more fun I believe it to be. Many people underestimate in my opinion the joys of making full meals, but I do not. I enjoy cooking deer, the process of hunting, taking down the animal, then moving it, skinning and gutting it, removing the offal, burying, moving the meat and what else I need to take back. Curing and storing, and cooking what I will eat. I suspect deer and elk are actually very popular among eldar. Potatoes are good to eat, as well as other ground growing foods, but it was always difficult to get many to agree to growing them, even with eldar there were many things that were symbols of a life we did not want, and they were one.

Prompt #12: Cooking

I don't cook. Fuck that. Ma Lee cooks. Ma Lee in a part of Berlin that tourists seldom find.

Lee's cafe keeps me alive like no crooked corporate medic, street-corner apothecary, psychiatrist or pocketbook of philosophy can.

The medicine is nearly entirely self administered, affordable, non-destructive and honest. Qualities missing from every other facet of my life.

I am:
Hunched over the counter, consulting the oracle of hot-n-sour soup, seeking a cure for a musty fall cold - feeling an uncomfortable physical pressure, externally. Shifting on the stool, breathing in the spice bearing steam, closing my eyes in happiness, thinking 'Nothing is wrong with this perfect bowl of soup.' Opening my eyes and losing my thoughts in the shimmering, coppery, soup-mirror; but there's something pulling me back to the present. Frowning slightly and pressing back with my spine against the hard seat back, a gouging lump fitted to my waist, eyes clearing as my attention is again drawn to the burden of my lethal gear. God Fucking Damn-It. I reach back and rediscover the buttoned-down Glock tightly snugged against my back. I remember my relationship to the weapon and taste the bitterness of the soup like bile at the back of my tongue. I drop the spoon on the counter and payment that far exceeds the bill. I've never been so uncomfortable "in uniform"; I'm not a fidgeter, a twitcher, an undisciplined gear fiddler, now I feel the need to run from this place before it discovers that I don't belong. Before I've made the door Ma Lee has swept up the money and turned back to where her grandchildren wait.

I don't cook. Fuck that.

#12 Cooking

When I was a warrior, before taking up the post of Chief Advisor, I used to go on long patrols around the borders of Imladris. This would entail a group of warriors, armed to the teeth and looking out for orcs and wargs to keep the lands free from evil. Every day we would kill a forest animal for food and look to the forest floor for roots and plants to include in a stew.

The fire would be made and lit and wooden struts tied off with twine and a crossbar would be erected to hang the meat. The skin would be stripped and the entrails removed. If the animal was small it would be left whole and hung over the fire and it was large it would be jointed and then hung. Some times, for a change, we would put the meat in a pot and cook it with the roots.

After a hard day ridding the borders of the presence of evil, this meal was very welcome.

Prompt #12 Cooking

Sure I can cook. My mum made sure I could feed myself. Good thing too because now Alison's gone, well I have to take care of myself, don't I?

Anyways nothing lures a bird like you cooking for them. I can even do that vegetarian stuff. The birds like that even more. And when they're happy, well, you might get happy too.

I cook for Jack too. Breakfast when I crash at his gaff, but sometimes dinner too. He can manage a steak but not the rest of it. I don't like eating alone, so I fill in. He's not so good with the washing up either. I think his ex-missus spoiled him.

Prompt # 12 Cooking

I like cooking. Its rather relaxing, and you can let your mind drift. Plus its food. You really can't go wrong offering food to others. Everyone likes food, we all kind of need it. As an exorcist with a parasite type innocence I need a lot more than most. I burn off a lot of energy because my weapon uses it. So I have to consume a lot of food to make up for what I've lost. Hence why I know how to cook. Because sometimes I'm the only one around and when I need to eat I need to EAT.

Prompt 12: Cooking

Living in poverty in Beleriand, we had to cook for ourselves, whatever game we could find and gather from the surrounding countryside, and cook over a campfire. My younger brothers are better at trapping game than I am, but I became quite adept in the one-handed skinning and gutting of rabbits and waterfowl.

Now I live in the modern age, and food is more easily (though not so freely) gathered, though I find a few hundred years of campfire-roasted game was enough to put me off eating meat for an eternity. Cooking, though, has become one of the most complicated and strange things that I've encountered since I've been here. Instead of just lighting a fire, and turning the meat on a spit over it, there's packets and instructions, cooking times and oven temperatures, microwaves, electric steamers, toasters, food processors. They put food into packages like tins, that need more gadgets just to open them. I swear to Eru, the Edain(humans) are just crazy.

I have too little patience and not enough hands for fancy cooking. I go for minimum preparation for practical reasons; give me a sharp knife I can slay an orc but in the kitchen I'm clumsy enough that I'd probably end up accidentally cutting off my other hand. I see no point going to the trouble of, say, making a cheese sandwich, when I may as well eat a chunk of cheese and another chunk of bread. It's the same food, whether it's cut up or just bitten off. Why bother slicing and boiling carrots when they're just as easily eaten whole and raw?

So, yes. Unless someone cooks for me, I tend to live mainly on bread, cheese, raw vegetables, chocolate, coffee and takeaway dinners.

Prompt #12 - Cooking

I love cooking. I love being able to use my own ingredients that I've grown and using them to create new and interesting things. Cooking is like art. Except with more calories, vitamins, and minus the toxic chemicals (I'm talking to you, grocery store buyers).

Olympia City sometimes has a Farmer's Market, but its easier if you live on the edge of town and are within driving distance to the nearest smaller town to find more. But I think its the best when you cook for yourself, using your own hard-earned crop.

Blueberries are delicious in season, I might add.

"Cooking". [open]

Cooking? ...I don't, to be honest. I never really have -- unless I had to, and I stuck to what I couldn't ruin too badly. There's been a lot of take out in my life, barring the odd boyfriend who had culinary skills that far surpassed my own. Simon, for instance, was a great cook. I made a few attempts at "romantic dinners" with my own cooking, during that relationship...I don't think any of them turned out quite how I hoped when I walked into the kitchen. Occasionally he had to rescue the meal. At least once, we ended up getting take out anyway.

These days, I don't have the time, and there are plenty of people capable of making decent meals for the rest of us. I think I owe them a lot for late night food runs on an all-nighter. (It sounds a bit like I'm in college again -- in terms of learning experience, the magnitude of being in Atlantis definitely outstrips my college years. And the all-nighters are (usually) a little more life or death than a test I should've started studying for last week...)

Prompt #12: Cooking.

You know what really, really sucks about getting set on fire? The smell. Oh, sure, I enjoy a good rump roast like the next guy, but when it's your ass that's turning a delicious medium-well, it really sucks. Not to say I don't bounce back real easy, it just kinda sucks, that's all. Makes me almost want to be a vegetarian, but I enjoy eating animals too much.

Mmmmm, dead flesh. Tasty, tasty, tasty.

So anyways, yeah. Don't get set on fire. It's no fun, and it really doesn't do anyone any favors.
