With interviews starting on the 6th, we figured now is a good time to begin job applications! Your characters won't find out for a bit which jobs have accepted them, but this will help us get a sense of how many people are applying for each job and how many interviews to set up. We'll have more information on interviews next week but for now, we'd like you to fill out this form for each job your 7th year has applied for. If the jobs are similar though (like auror and hitwizard or other positions in the same department or field) you can consolidate applications. Try to get these in by the 6th and all comments will be screened.

Here is the application

Job Applied for:

Why do they want this job:

How are they qualified:

Do/will they meet the requirements? be reasonable. If potions was their weakest subject, they won’t suddenly get an O in it, and most students won’t have straight Os

How will they act in the interview? Or, if applicable, how did their audition/sample go?

How do you, as a player, feel?

quidditch recruiting

Today, recruiters for quidditch teams from all leagues spoke to the 7th year quidditch players. Each team determined which players they liked and then then got in touch with the coach to schedule a meeting with the player. The top ranked players can receive two offers to play as a reserve with those consistently ranked at the very top receiving three. All 7th years can receive up to three invites for general tryouts. We're not going to pick which team talked to which player, but be reasonable; unless you're consistently number one, you probably won't receive two offers from the very best teams. And if you're consistently ranked near the very bottom of the list, you're more likely to be invited to try out for teams that are average or receive less than three invites.

Here are the top ranked players
Danny, Katja, Brooke
Jana, Didi, Garrett, Ryu
Willow
James, Celima, Alphonse

And here are the ones who may have received three offers
Danny, Katja, Jana, Didi, Willow

Today, the teams as well as quidditch organizations also talked to the managers. All three managers can receive three offers, and like the players, we will not be determining things because there is a huge range of opportunities. But, again, be reasonable and keep in mind that these jobs will be closer to internships. For example, they will not be offered an analyst position, but they may be offered to assist the analyst and learn how to be one.

Any questions? Just ask

Hey all!

It’s getting to be that time of year where seventh years need to start thinking about what in the world they’re going to do after Hogwarts. We’ve put together a guide of what the requirements are to apply to some of the most popular career paths (if we’ve forgotten any, please let us know). The application deadlines are important to note, because we’re asking anyone with a seventh year student who is planning to go into one of these fields to “apply” with us. We’ll be putting up a post in a little bit and asking you to outline why your character(s) want this particular field, why they’re qualified (or why they aren’t), and your opinion as players. We’ll post acceptances on the days listed below (some of which, you’ll note, are after NEWT scores return).

A few things to note:
- For all positions that require specific NEWT grades, students apply using grades from the previous year and the earlier terms this year. Their final NEWT marks will be reported to the departments with which they have applied, and their acceptances (or rejections) will be finalized then.

- For Quidditch players, things are handled on a much more individual basis. Scouts and agents have been buzzing around the tournament during every game, and after spring break is when things will really kick into high gear. Players who are ranked in the top half may be approached to try out for/open negotiation talks with specific teams prior to the general tryouts (and may be offered a position early). Players who are not ranked in the top half are eligible for a general tryout that each league holds over the summer (after the tournament is over), from which professional teams will fill their remaining spots. It is extremely unlikely that any player will be offered anything more than a spot on a reserve squad at this point in time, and we’ll ask that you be realistic (AKA, please don’t have five teams arguing over your character unless they scored 8 goals or 8 hits in every single game). If we think you’re being unrealistic, we’ll ask you to change things up a bit. There are also a plethora of support positions for professional Quidditch teams and the organizations that run them (for example, analysts, conditioning specialists, people who work for the IAQ or the British and Irish League, etc.), so please also consider those options as surely not everyone will stay playing—these are more on a rolling basis, which is why there is no deadlines.

- If you have a foreign student who is considering applying to any of these career paths in their home countries, for simplicity’s sake please use the same dates to apply. We would like to note, though, that since the game is potentially continuing after graduation you may want to consider keeping your characters UK-based. They are welcome to apply to these careers in the UK, because there is a convenient conversion system used for test scores from foreign schools.

If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask. This is a lot of information. Also, this is not required unless you want to make any of these plans for your seventh year.

Hey guys! Update on class assignments this week. As we noted, 6th year potions students are making Felix Felicis this week. We decided that it would be fun if the three students per section who made the best potion will get to sample it. In order to determine who receives the potion, we entered everyone's name into a randomizer. A character's name was entered once if it's their worst subject, twice if they're average, and three if it's their best. We're a little late getting this up since class was yesterday, so the winners in Tuesday's class were given the option to drink their potion at breakfast this morning. Their other option is to wait until Saturday, when Friday's winners will be allowed to have their potion. They will be lucky for the whole day.

And the winners~
Tuesday: Scorpius, Penny, Feiyi
Friday: Audrey, Larissa, Anya

Also happening today is 7th year COMC, where they're dealing with glumbumbles. However, a vial carrying the fluid broke and they were all exposed. As a result, all of them will be feeling melancholy for the next 24 hours.

Those who are taking COMC are:
Esmeralda Bradley
Qamar Cooke
Nina Craddick
Robb Flannigan
Chase Harper
Vasili Ivanov
Roald Krum
Frank Longbottom
Charles MacFusty
Willow Marten
Vladimir Poliakoff
James Potter
Tobias Pucey
Kevin Whitby
Danny Wood

We know we're posting this a little late in the day so feel free to backdate things.

Lastly, the babies began to get better today. Those who had been taking good care of their child would have noticed that he or she improved early in the day. Those with bad parents won't see signs of improvement until this evening. All babies will be returned at dinner tonight. While this project isn't graded, there are repercussions for being a bad parent. Students who did poorly will lose points and be forced to attend a remedial parenting class, which will be held after break. If you neglected, experimented on, mistreated, lost your child or if despite your best efforts you were still a subpar parent, you will take the class. If the child spent a significant amount of time with a nonparent, the parents will also be in the class. Comment here if you think your character would be included, and please be honest.

Hey guys! A few upcoming plot points. Firstly, we want to get the clubs more involved in the plot, and the first step is an art show by the Art Collective! This will also include a small exhibition of the best quidditch photographs. While the art show won't occur until the end of the year (May 26), there will be a preview show after spring break on Sunday, April 8th. All Art Collective members, as well as foreign photographers, are expected to have one or two pieces ready to show by then. In addition to an art show, there will also be a recital for dancers, singers, musicians, actors and other artists the night of the art show though they will not be expected to have something prepared by April. While this is a long way off, it's something for characters to keep mind mind.

Secondly, there's one more twist to the baby plot. Starting this afternoon, all of the babies will begin to show different symptoms, and the parents will be forced to take care of their sick child. There are multiple illnesses that your baby could come down with so feel free to be creative! While they can meet with Zest for medicine, they will be responsible for taking care of their children, and this is intended as a way to bring parents together.

Thirdly, in preparations for OWLs, 5th years will be dealing with boggarts on Monday and Wednesday. 6th year potions students will be making Felix Felicis Tuesday and Friday. Lastly, on Wednesday, 7th year COMC students will be working with glumbumbles, an insect that produces a fluid that causes melancholy. They will be collecting this fluid, but if they do not handle it correctly, they could spend the rest of the day feeling melancholy.

On a final note, we know everyone has been busy lately, but we do urge you to try to include public parts of entries when possible. With things moving a little slowly lately, it can be frustrating to find that everything is under wards or in an owl.

Activity Check

Hey guys! It's time for our second activity check of sorts. While it is required, there's no punishment for not being active provided that you respond; we're not going to kick you out or give you a week to update or something if you haven't. This is more of a way to check in with all of you rather than a warning. It's a big game so it's often hard for us to keep track of how often people are posting. But unless you're already told us you're on hiatus, we do need to respond to this.

So for each character, we ask you to respond with two things. Firstly, their most recent journal entry or thread. Secondly, a comment thread in someone else's entry just so we know you've been commenting. These should be things that were started within the past two weeks (so from 2/17 to 3/2). If you haven't been as active with a character, don't sweat it. We understand that real life gets in the way, so if you've been busy, just tell us! Or if you haven't posted with a character because of a lack of plot, we'll try to help you get more involved. We're flexible so if, say, you've been commenting a lot but just forgot to post a journal entry or if you don't have something from within the past two weeks, but you have something from a little earlier or you post something later this week, just let us know and show us links. If you don't have any kind of relatively recent activity for a character, we may want to chat further with you about it.

All comments are screened. Please try to respond by the 7th. Thanks!

Animagus Class and Sex Ed

Two things. Firstly, we have finally decided on the participants in the Animagus class.

The students selected:
Alice Connolly
Vasili Ivanov
Scorpius Malfoy
Kevin Whitby
Ruby Wilder

The class will be held on Monday from 3:00-4:00 PM. The first session was today, and it was mostly an introduction; the first month or so they'll mainly be talking theory. This class is also reading intensive, and they won't be attempting transformation for awhile. The class isn't strictly for preparing them to take the animagus test at a particular date. While they can take it at the end of the term, it isn't required if the student isn't ready.

Secondly, sex ed starts on Wednesday at 8:00-9:00 PM. This first class is mostly lecture based, and the prefects and heads will introduce the reproductive systems, pregnancy from a biological perspective, and safe sex/contraception. The second class, divided by gender, will focus on STDs, sexual assault, consent, and pregnancy from an emotional/social perspective. The third and final class will be small group discussions divided by gender on all of these topics, as well as role play scenarios.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

As many of you have noted or asked about, starting on the 13th, characters will be affected by a love potion. Since this plot is a little complicated, we're going to explain everything on the early side to give people time to plot and ask questions. Basically, an anonymous person spiked a few drinks with a love potion, and the characters affected will be under the influence until the 17th (unless, of course, a friend takes or drags them to the hospital wing for an antidote). Unlike many of our other plots, we're not randomizing characters to find out who takes the potion and who is the target of their affections. Due to the nature of the plot, we think it's most fun if everyone gets to decide that for themselves.

There are a few guidelines though. Those with three or fewer characters can only have one affected; those with four or more can have two. The number of characters you have also determine how many of your characters can be targeted. So, again, for now, only those with four or more characters can have two characters who are the object of someone's affection. Each character can only be the target of one person; we don't want everyone falling for the same person, but if you have a really compelling reason why x and y should both fall for z, we're willing to listen. Lastly, if you have two characters who have taken the love potion, they must fall for characters that have different players. In short, we want to get as many people involved as possible!

So comment here with the character(s) you want to take the love potion and who they will fall for. You're free to use this post to work out plots or to figure out who a target will be. You are in no way required to participate though, and if you don't want some or any of your characters to be targeted, just leave a comment here saying so.

ONE
run the button please!

As noted, Rebekah has dropped Louis and Clover, and both Gina with Molly Weasley and Nic with Leo Tatting have left the game.

TWO
Here at the beginning of the Great Journal Fiasco of 2023 and again at the end (aka Tuesday night), please make sure to note in your entries when your wards have failed so we know at what time they were posted. This way your fellow players know what you're intending to torture your characters with and what should remain outside the parameters of this plot.

Along those same lines, we want to make a small distinction. It is the journal network which has malfunctioned, not the individual journals. Spells designed to work within the journal network (wards and "wave wand for"s, and in our specific case striking things out after they have been written) will not work. Spells performed on individual journals as objects or as paper/books will still work. So your characters can Accio their journals and they will be able to perform translation spells (if they know them) on words that appear in front of them. Make sense? Let us know if not!

THREE
The first sex ed session is next week! It's the introduction, which everyone will attend together, but we wanted to make sure you're all aware that it's coming up. If for any reason your character's parents would not have signed the permission forms that went home, please note that here.

Hey guys! A few things. Firstly, apparition lessons start Tuesday SATURDAY the 7th at 8:00 PM. It's an optional course that costs 12 galleons and lasts for six weeks. It's open to those who are seventeen or will be seventeen in 2023.

And secondly, sex education! Parents for those under eighteen SEVENTEEN [sorry, Lauren is dumb] received a parental consent form, which Hayley and Raisa are drafting. Starting this Wednesday and continuing for the next six weeks, prefects and heads will receive training from Zest during their prefect meeting time in order to instruct the classes. The actual classes will take place on February 8th, 15th, and 22nd at 8:00 PM. 5th years-7th years will be together, and everyone is required to take it. For the first lesson, everyone will be together while in the second, they'll be divided by gender. In these lessons, they'll be learning about reproductive systems, preventative measures, consent, sexual assault, and STDS. In the third and final lesson, they'll be divided into small groups to ask questions, have discussions, and do roleplay scenarios.

If you have any questions about either of those classes, as always, feel free to ask!

And lastly, Run it! Jane adds Aindreas Finnigan, 5th year Ravenclaw!

[info]feintedmods

Hey all! This one's kind of an important announcement.

Because you guys are all so amazing, we are now rather close to filling all the spots we originally had available when we opened the game in August. Not only that, but the vast majority of you are amazingly active; we seriously cannot impress enough upon you how much we appreciate your dedication to this game.

It is precisely because you have made this game so awesome that we decided to open up some (actually, a total of 36) new character possibilities: each Hogwarts dormitory now has the capacity to house 6 students rather than 5, and we have added four new spots to each of the foreign delegations:
two medic interns (per team). These students have interest in Healing (and the position deals specifically with sports healing) and they will be working closely with Madam Zest—and you know those times when your kids have been temporarily removed from the game to be attended to on the sidelines? Yeah, that's these kids. There are also two of these slots for the Hogwarts kids; if current characters are interested, feel free to talk to us.

one writer/announcer (per team). This student is responsible for announcing the games for their home schools (in the school's official language), as well as providing the school newspaper (and more infrequently the equivalent of the Daily Prophet) with pieces on both the tournament and the "international cooperation" sides of things (so the events, etc.). At Hogwarts, this duty will be split by Sev Rookwood (announcer), and [Corbin Finch-Fletchley, you have right of first refusal] (writer).

one photographer (per team). This student is responsible for photographing all Quidditch matches as well as important events: basically, whatever the writer needs to complement his/her pieces, but there is also potential for a photographic essay series if they so choose. This is open to Hogwarts students as well.

Please note that we still have the one-foreigner-per-player rule in place. However, we are open to changing that on a case by case basis if someone has only one Quidditch player but you'd need a convincing reason why they'd have to be foreign.

Nov. 30th, 2011

[info]feintedmods

Another few announcements!

run the button again please! Annalisa adds Tessa Sinclair-Wood ([info]transiency), and Crystal brings Charlotte Bott ([info]aerophone).

For the foreigners! You also have the option of remaining at Hogwarts over the break. The manners of transport you used to get here (found here) will depart Hogwarts on the 22, same as the Hogwarts Express. Those modes of transport will leave to return to Hogwarts on 1 January (Salem) and 2 January (Beauxbatons, Durmstrang). Anyone going home but also going to the Warbeck gala will need to arrange a portkey.

[info]feintedmods

Two things, please.

FIRST
run the button, please! Heather adds Anais Bolduc ([info]_dumspirospero_), Lis adds Viola Rosier ([info]primandproperly), and Carrah adds Gil Pucey ([info]amaliaeve).

SECOND
We've had a few concerns recently about the influx of foreign language posting. We are thrilled that you guys want to be authentic to your characters, but since we have a good number of players who regularly access the site on mobile devices or computers on which the hover function for translations doesn't work, we are going to make a request. If your character says more than a word or a phrase in a language other than English, we would like you to either a) provide a translation below the text, or b) just note above the text [Written in LANGUAGE] and put it in English. This is to help ease of reading and to ensure your characters' entries or comments don't get skipped because players aren't able to read them. Thanks everyone!

EDIT
I knew I forgot something! As some of you may have noticed on the upcoming events page, there is currently a chess tournament going on this week, sponsored by the Chess Club! If your character is in the Chess Club, they will probably take part in it--a lot of games set up on tables in the foyer in front of the Great Hall (near the points hourglasses). If you would like, I can set up a bracket for who's playing whom to determine the overall winner, but otherwise your characters can just note the overabundance of nerdy chess players roaming about and muttering about plays to themselves!

Also, if you haven't signed your kid up for Chess Club (or any other clubs they might want to belong to), you can do so here.

Hey guys! Just a clarification since there has been some confusion. Team practices are closed. You are, of course, free to try to spy but you'll get in trouble for it. However, unofficial practices aren't closed. So if, for example, the captain calls a team practice or if some people decide to practice on their own, those sessions will be open; while watching those may annoy the players or prompt them to try to get you to leave, it is possible to watch without getting in trouble. Basically though, practices scheduled by coaches are always closed.

So we've talked and we came to a decision about the Hogwarts team. We've decided that Charles is going to take Jack's place but we're going to say that he's been on the team since the beginning. Since Jack wasn't heavily involved in Hogwarts quidditch plots and since there hasn't been a game yet, we figured this wouldn't really mess up anyone's canon. We did think about moving up a reserve, but none of them were beaters; had we lost a chaser, that probably would have been our first choice. But when we lose a foreign character, the spot opens and someone else can fill it as if they were there all along; we thought it made sense in this situation to do something similar with Hogwarts, and Charles and Jack did receive a similar amount of votes initially. If you have any concerns or questions though, let us know.

As a reminder, please also get your Quidditch interviews in. Hogwarts is here, Salem is here.

Hey guys! A couple of things. First, it's that time again. Lauren adds Annabelle Hopkins and Sarah brings Maggie Wood. Unfortunately, we lost Sara with Jonquil Rosier, Lily Potter, Anais Beausoleil, and Jack Cardew

This also means there's an empty spot on the Hogwarts quidditch team. We're still discussing what to do but we'll keep you posted.

Secondly, it's time for the second multicultural relations project. This time, it's a cooking project. Everyone will be divided into groups of five and given a country. They then have to decide on a food from that country to cook. While the teachers will be a resource, they are encouraged to talk to someone from their given country for ideas. The groups will be assigned tomorrow and they have until next Tuesday to submit their recipe proposal. They will have to cook their foods by next Thursday. All meals will be judged by the Headmasters and the winning groups will get a prize. Groups are judged on taste as well as difficulty to discourage picking foods that are too easy.

Any questions? Feel free to ask!

Thirdly, here are the event for the next two weeks.
1st: Roald Krum's birthday
3rd: Félix Dupont's birthday
4th: Ginny Potter's second article and stats profiles published in the Daily Prophet
5th: HOGWARTS v. SALEM PREP (Round 1). Rose Weasley's birthday. Roxanne Weasley's birthday. Fred Weasley's birthday.
8th: Recipes due
7th: Annabelle Hopkins's birthday
10th: Foods due
15th: Anya Bielski's birthday

Hey guys!

We have FINALLY created a clubs page! So far, the clubs are art, book, charms, chess, choir, dueling, film, gobstones, herbology, HILT, and potions. If there's a club you want to see, let us know and we'll add it. In order to sign up for clubs please go to the page and reply with the clubs your character would like to be involved in. You can also sign up for leadership roles, but please don't go nuts; we want everyone to get a chance, and it's unlikely that even the most dedicated overachiever would be given more than three leadership roles (and this includes being a prefect, Head, or Quidditch Captain).

Also keep in mind that 7th years will get preference for leadership roles, and that there are a couple we have already assigned simply due to that character's professed passion for the subject.

Hogwarts Team Voting

In a comment, let us know who you think would be best for the Hogwarts Quidditch team. There will be three reserves. Please make sure you check here to see how trials went and what each character brings to the team. While these votes are the most important part of our final decision, we'll also take into account things like whether or not a player has a foreign Quidditch player, the player's feelings on their character making the team, etc if the votes are very close or tied.

As clarification: every player (you, the muns) may vote one time with one roster, whether or not you have a character trying out--ideally, we'll get votes from everyone before putting up the roster. You may vote for your own character, but if you have more than one trying out, please choose only one to vote for. This should go without saying, but votes are private, so please don't share them with each other until after the roster has been posted, and please do not pressure someone into voting for your character; campaigning was done in the last post. Happy voting!

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED. All comments are screened.

Another note because Lauren can't ever seem to remember to include all the pertinent information at once!

The trials for the Hogwarts Quidditch team will be CLOSED to anyone not trying out, including foreign team players and Hogwarts spectators. This was not broadcasted, so it is perfectly legitimate for people to scheme about trying to watch and to show up expecting to be allowed; Coach McCormack just barked at anyone not on her list to either grab a broom or go straight back up to the castle. And if anyone tried to sneak in, McCormack's Sneakoscope would have gone off and she'd have found them and told them off something terrible. In fact, their ears would probably still be ringing on Sunday. McCormack don't mess around.
