THE HOST

David spent much of his life with no idea that he was adopted; his father, Charles Xavier, gave him to the Haller family when he was an infant. Unfortunately, David wasn't the only thing that Xavier handed over to the Hallers. A powerful mutant that Charles had defeated, known as the Shadow King, had latched onto the infant David's mind. He rode the child like a parasite, fraying at the edges of an already delicate mind.

DEMONS

David's power manifested itself explosively after a fight with his then-girlfriend, Philly; after Philly left the room, David's power exploded and wrecked the kitchen. When Philly returned, she only saw David and a wrecked kitchen. Terrified, she broke up with him and left. David, despondent, attempted to hang himself with an electrical cord. When the paramedics arrived, they only found rope burn around David's neck and nothing he could have hung himself with. Nevertheless, this ended in institutionalization for David.

SHE'S A RAINBOW

Everything changed when David met Syd Barrett. It was love at first sight, even in the institution where they had both been committed. In the end, David accidentally switched bodies with Syd and was removed from the institution, leaving Syd with his body and powers... but she came for him, once she'd switched back, and introduced him to her new friends who said that he was never sick, he was special. He was a mutant, like them, and a very powerful one. David didn't know it at the time, but this was the beginning of the end.

THE END OF THE END

It turned out that David was special, but he was also sick. It was a terrible combination, one that turned the entire world upside down by the time he was done. When David came back to his senses, to lucidity, he realized that the only real solution, the only real way that everyone else could live happily, was if he had never existed as he was now. And so... he unmade the current reality and left a better one in its place, one where the Shadow King never existed in David's head and they all had a chance at something better.
