Second Chances: the Network

So, I'm not sure if folks have their spring breaks planned out already or not, but the museum has given me a grant to go on a dig and have said I'm allowed to take students with me. I'll be there for close to two weeks - around March 23 to April 3.

UC Berkeley & Stanford have spring break the first week and the high school is off the second week. Folks are welcome to stay as long as they want during that time. I'll also need chaperones, so adults, if you want to come, we can make it happen.

As for sites, currently debating between Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. Should have that finalized in a week or two.

I get traditions are tradition. I do. But leave that poor groundhog alone. No matter what happens with his shadow, we have six weeks until the Spring Equinox.

Okay, so I don't know who thought doing classes through a computer was a good idea - and yes I know the weather sucks - but science class cannot be done properly through a screen. It is something that must be experienced, hands on. Doing science through a screen doesn't work and it's hard to do experiments at home.

We had snow days back home, or... actually... we didn't have that many. I think it had something to do with the fact that the town was so small and the land was flat enough that plows were able to do their jobs quick. But seriously, how long until I can be back in science in person?

I know, I know, don't get out in all this unless you have to, but I had to go to a doctor's appointment and I'm not gonna lie, it is pretty terrible.

On the other hand, it's nice to have someone to come home to now. No offense, Flynn, but it's just not the same coming home to a roommate as it is coming home to a girlfriend.

I didn't really get a chance to get to know my new roommate since I was stuck out of the city for most of October, but I'd really like it if the people sharing my living space didn't keep disappearing on me. Kind of makes me feel cursed.

I know that Stephen and Simon have talked about the clinic that'll be opening up, and I just wanted to add that I'll be holding some counseling hours there in addition to my other ones. While I'm still in the process of dotting i's and crossing t's to get licensed here, I do have years of experience in listening and counseling those who are in need of guidance or a listening ear. Since this last month was a lot, I just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the resources here.

Tuesday evenings I'll also be hosting a group session in the community room for folks who want to chat about the challenges and joys of life here.

This is a surprise. I don't like surprises that put me in strange places. They make me stabby.

The suits said my people are here.

And just like that, the systems are mine.

I got the network. I got the phones. I got the CCTV around the apartments. I got what the liaisons had, and now it is only us. You can still call and text anyone outside of our network, but anything you post can't be found by any non-displaced resident.

If anyone, even friendlies, tries to hack this, they will get a nasty little something as a consequence. I have contingencies built into the system in the event of my departure, but as long as I'm here, Big Brother can't get any of our information.

And with that, I'm gonna go sleep for 36-48 hours. If you see me on here, don't judge. I'll at least be in bed.

I'm not sure how these bugs got in this apartment, but I've got the best bug zapper on the market. I'll make short work of this. Probably get rid of 'em in a couple of days.

Unrelated, but, y'all. The internet is forever. You gotta be careful what you put out there for everyone to see. You never know who's on the other end of the screen.

Do we happen to have access to surveillance around the building? Seems like something that could be useful.

Had an unusual occurrence tonight - Was coming back from grocery shopping and noticed someone watching me before I came back to the building. They caught me watching them watching me, but just kept staring. Eventually they moved away. Didn't try anything or do anything, but it was... strange.

Any of you got a spare firearm around? Just to be prepared.

Ran into a stranger in a bar last night who was awful chatty. I couldn't put a pin in it but there was something strange about the whole thing. Mostly because who thinks I look like the kind of guy who wants to have a heart to heart over my beer?

I was talking to Hardison about it and he IDed him just because we were curious. Nothing fishy about the guy, not on any list anywhere, but he's pretty far from home to be having a drink by himself.

Maybe I'm being paranoid, but maybe keep an eye out anyway.

I've been working on a project for the last few months. You can blame Captain Rogers, he decided I should be a productive member of society or something. November 1st, we're opening a medical center. It's sliding scale income based but plot twist, displaced are treated for free because why the hell not. At least as long as my funds are here but apparently I could be snatched up at any time so who the fuck knows.

Those of you with slightly more...unusual needs, you'll likely be seeing myself or Dr. Tam. We at least know you exist as whatever it is you are and we can work from there. But no one gets turned away (unless you're on a trying to kill us all rampage and then, I mean, jury's out to be fair).

No, it doesn't have a name yet. You all know I suck at that part. Good thing I don't have to order the sign for another week or two.
