There's this guy on my Facebook feed that used to kind of be a family friend when he worked with Dad at the plant. This joker just went off on Rippon and Kenworthy for "pushing their political agenda on America's dime" after I shared an article about their recent Instagram posts.

I take issue with two things here:

1. An American with any access to a public platform has a moral duty to speak out against gross inequalities and prejudices, imo. I will share the hell out of your message, friends.

2. Was I supposed to get a dime??? All I got was a penny and it was one of those shitty pressed ones you get in those machines at the Grand Ole Opry. If I'd known I was owed a dime, maybe I wouldn't have had to "retire"!!!! So salty. (But, no, he literally argued with me about how much Olympians get paid LOL.)

Anyway, he got blocked. Guess he can't brag about knowing me anymore. Poor guy.

A lot of people ask me if all I do is drink all day, and... yeah, I kind of do. Less so now that I have to do all of the bills (ugh) and accounting (ugh) and orders (that part is fun), but two big parts of this industry are recommendations and innovation, and you can't do either if you don't know what anything tastes like. That said, you can't get drunk on the job, so you'll be sent away right away if you come in for an interview and you suggest that. It's happened more times than it really should.

Anyway, I've been having fun. Different seasons call for different types of drinks (I'm brewing a chocolate stout made with Mexican chocolate for this winter, for example), and I think that's one of the reasons a bar might struggle now, as the market is more interested in unique experiences that they can't replicate at just any old place. The media likes to talk shit about millennials, but they know what they like.

This one is bourbon, Ras Al hanout, coffee, sweet vermouth, Ancho Reyes, flaming anise. And this is bourbon, cranberry juice, cardamom, Cherry Bark Vanilla bitters, a sprig of lavender. The "Consciously Aware My Students Are on Here/The Admissions Office Thinks This Is Part of My Job Description" social media persona may just be my most interesting yet.

Kind of liked Linked In, only a way more difficult balance, for sure.

And since I believe part of this persona probably demands a more formal demeanor than I use elsewhere on the Interwebs, allow me to introduce myself--my name is Alvis Dunn, better known as Mr. Dunn to my aforementioned students. I spent my childhood and adolescence in Dunhaven, meaning I can likely stop rambling now, since I'm sure the vast majority of you can now recall incidents of my early years that even I don't remember. For any newbies or tourists (haha), I teach Chemistry at Athena Academy. I would say I've spent the summer thus far not thinking about school at all, but truthfully I burnt that midnight oil more nights than I care to admit thinking of new and exciting ways for my students to blow things up.
