Hello, Dunhaven! Most of you know me already, but for those of you that don't, I'm Remington Steele. I work as a pastry chef at Sweet Nothings and I have a very important announcement to make! Elsie has generously allowed me to host a fundraiser out of the bakery this upcoming week, and I think everyone in town will enjoy it. It's pretty sweet if I do say so myself.

Make your sugar cookies a little more guilt-free by knowing that their purchase is going to a good cause! This upcoming Thursday, July 26th, is National All or Nothing Day. In honor of this, 100% of the proceeds from my gourmet glazed sugar cookies are going to charity. You're not reading things wrong.

What's the breakdown and who are you supporting by purchasing these tasty, uplifting treats?

50% of every sale will go to the non-profit To Write Love on Her Arms. TWLOHA is a nonprofit movement with the mission to present hope and find help for people who are struggling with depression, self-injury, addiction, and suicide. They have a hand in assisting those in need by providing access to treatment, information, and support.

The other 50% of all sales will go to the Childhood Domestic Violence Association. Their mission is to create and deploy solutions and tools to increase awareness of childhood domestic violence, to empower adults, to serve as a lifeline for those affected, and to educate adults who experienced childhood domestic violence.

If you find yourself not in the mood for cookies (but come on, who doesn't always want cookies??) and still wish to make a donation, when you buy your cake, muffin, chocolates, or other assorted delicacies, you're welcome to make an additional donation to either of the charities above. Just tell us which one you want to support and we'll add your donation to the fund!

Cookies are sold as a minimum of a pair, but will also be packaged in bundles of five and boxes of a dozen. Cookies are available by walk-in or in-town delivery courtesy of a few volunteers for an additional charge. Only a few designs are shown. The messages of all cookies are meant to be uplifting and focused on self-positivity and self-care. Other available designs will include (but are not limited to) "Didn't pretend I was fine when I wasn't," "Remembered to breathe," "Asked for help," and "Took time to Recharge." If you have more design suggestions, I still have a week of baking ahead of me! Mr. Wilkerson has generously donated several pounds of sugar, flour, butter, and eggs to the cause, but if anyone wants to donate more raw materials, they will be taken at the front desk during business hours until end of business on Thursday.

I have this idea I've been tossing around in my head, and I wanted to see what my lovely patrons thought of it, so:

There are so many beers out there and we only have so much space, and I like to keep things interesting for everyone. Would anyone be interested in a game where I choose, maybe 4 new beers, and offer them up for a certain amount of time in pints or as a flight, no names attached so you have no idea which brewery they're from or what they're called, and you all can vote on which one is your favorite? And then at the end, the top scorer gets added to our menu? (And then I'll share the names of all of them.) And in the process, you get to try new things in a fun, surprising way.

Okay, last week was for dancing. This week, though, I've been told the karaoke at the Pourhouse is especially fun and it is happening tonight. Can this be a thing?

And not just my relations and future ones. Now that we're settled and not living out of the hotel, I want to meet more new folks.

I'm sorry in advance, Dunhaven, but you're apparently going to be suffering from a temporary influx of Lyons. I've managed to keep them at bay for eight years, but apparently I have now given them no choice.

You know what Dunhaven needs? A nightclub. But because it does not currently have one of those, I suppose taking an Uber to DC and back is going to have to do. Abs, Dot?

Too many of these ring far too true, especially 6 and 9. I spent way too many nights hanging out in Grandma's parking lot being very cool or riding a bus back to Dunhaven until midnight as a teenager.

While I was picking up dinner at Grandma's, an older woman I have never talked to before informed me that she noticed I wasn't wearing a wedding ring and that she could set me up with her son so I have someone to support me after the baby comes. I would like to say that she got the hint when I gave her a brilliantly withering look, but she instead sat next to me and told me more about Jerry than I ever wanted to know. I haven't decided if this was better or worse than when my coworker realized I was pregnant and responded with, "You're pregnant? But why?"

Anyway, not talking about my apparently delicate condition, I bit the bullet and gave up my studio in DC. I've been here far more than I've been in DC as of late, so it's really just become an expensive closet at this point. It was helpful for work, but I've grown used to the commute. I think this means I've put down roots. Oh my.

And finally, I'm going to the Renaissance Faire this weekend. Various sorts that won't be there talking in British accents that I will almost certainly be judging harshly in my mind ought to accompany me. I want to buy a flower crown.

I felt obligated to find out what kind of mum I'm going to be based on my description of the perfect child.

"You got: You will be a GREAT mom, but pretty overprotective.

You've heard of the helicopter parent, right? That's pretty much you, and TBH this type of mom has a lot of amazing characteristics! Your kids will always feel loved and will always know they can come to your for anything. You tend to worry, but only because you love your kid so much. You're going to be a great parent!"

Helicopter parent sums it up well, yes. My poor child.

Vaguely unrelated, is anyone out there willing to be paid to paint a mural for a nursery? My artistic skills are lacking, to say the least, but I'd like something more than solid colors in the room. Let me know!
