kthx for coming to my TED Talk ... 😬😬😬

Every summer, my students and I do this thing where we make playlists for each other. I keep up with what they're interested in and vice versa, we introduce each other to new artists. Sometimes they think my stuff's boring as hell, but then one of them will show up to class on the first day and say they couldn't stop listening to something and went out to get the rest of an artist's album. I live for those days. But even when they don't dig it, the point's more to listen to something outside of their comfort zone.

This week, it's favorite movie soundtracks, and I got caught up thinking about Black P how incredible Romeo + Juliet's was, so I've made no progress at all.

If you had asked me ten years ago if I could foresee how fulfilled the lives of the Sparks family would be, I'm not sure I could have imagined exactly this. As it continues to grow, I can only see us being more fulfilled. Welcome to the family, Violet. I'm so pleased to call you my sister, and even more pleased to know how happy you make my pain-in-the-ass brother.

Here's to the next ten years and the years beyond that.

1) Since we’re on the wrong side of the planet, NASA is live-streaming the lunar eclipse right now! You can see it here*. It’s the longest one this century, so that’s fun! I’m glad they’re streaming it so the rest of us can enjoy it too.

2) What are your favorite nature/animal reserve/conservancy Instagrams? I need more positive things on my feed. I’ve been obsessed with the Amboseli Trust’s insta lately. They have twin elephants! Twins! They’re very rare.

3) The weather is hella nice right now, and it’s supposed to storm a bunch next week, so I was thinking about driving up to Assateague Island this weekend. Does anyone wanna go? Picnic on the beach? It’s a bit of a drive, but it’ll be nice.

I took a Buzzfeed quiz and it said I am 68% marriage material. Another one said I’d be single forever. ... their results need some work.

No anonymity this time. It's pretty public knowledge at this point that these dreams and memories are a pretty widespread issue, right? So I want to ask everyone who's been having them for help. How do you cope with a life that isn't yours but feels as much yours as your own is? The person I've dreamt about lost someone recently (recently for me, anyway, so I suppose that term is relative) and I find myself grieving the same way I would had I physically lived through it myself. How do you handle that? Has anyone else experienced loss that doesn't necessarily belong to them? I know that there's only more loss to come, thanks to being familiar with this person's story already even without the dreams and memories, and I [...] just want to know that I can face them without feeling like this when they inevitably come. Because if it feels like this now, I don't know how I'll even function through what's to come.

Violet and I don't think a big shindig is for us, and neither of us are keen on waiting a whole lot longer, so we're just going to do this thing. If you can't make it to the courthouse, that's okay, I think it's going to be a really quick and casual thing, and I get that not everyone's real flexible with their schedule like I am. But Mom wants a big family dinner afterwards, so maybe we can all go out somewhere.

But anyway, we were thinking a week from today? Bright and early? It opens at 8:30. I can probably move the time around if you can't make it then. I know we'd both like it if our fam could be there. But I get it's a big last minute.

Did some research.

We can go to any circuit court for a marriage license, we can even apply first online and have them print it out there. No waiting period, we can literally fill it out and do it all immediately after, just has to be done within 60 days, costs $30. We don't even need a witness (though I'm going to say we at least need my mother, Oliver, Jonas and Finnley). Only thing is it looks like we need our (birth) parents' full names, presumably to they can be sure we're not related... so there's that. I think you need your birth certificate for a legal name change, too.

So we get all that together, and we can do this anytime.

Facebook tells me that it's National (by way of the UK) Kissing Day. Not to be confused with International Kissing Day which takes place on July 6. So kiss who you want and make no apologies for it ♥. ...Unless you're related, in which case it's only acceptable if you're trying to make some smokin' hot scoundrel think you're not interested. This is clearly why National Sibling Day and International Kissing Day don't fall on the same day LOL.

Pansy season doesn't really last long enough. Just as soon as you get a good crop in, here comes the heat to completely dissuade them from growing again. They're delicate. They shrivel with the first sign of humidity but come roaring back when fall makes its debut. It's possible that many of us could feel the same, too.

Just thought I'd say ... appreciate the pansies. If snowdrops are the promise of spring, then pansies are the delivery. And I think that's pretty cool.

Hello, Dunhaven!

I'm pretty sure everyone knows me because I am legitimately the loudest resident in this town but, for the sake of modesty, allow me to introduce myself to anyone who doesn't. I am Charlie Parker, a senior at Athena Academy. For one of my capstone projects, I am hosting a social experiment that requires your help. It's kind of like Post-Secret which, if you're unfamiliar with it, is a project that collects anonymous secrets on postcards. It's wonderful and I highly recommend it. I would like to conduct something similar here, though it would be isolated to the network versus mailing me your secrets. It's really easy to participate. All you have to do is leave me an anonymous secret here. All comments are anonymous in that even I won't be able to tell who posted them. Though anonymous, they will be public. Comments can be anything, even something as simple as song lyrics that speak to you but that you wouldn't share with other people normally.

Please help me, Dunhaven! You're my only hope of getting a passing grade on this capstone!

Hey Dunhaven! Got a question for you.

... I know you love the flower farm, you all raid the stall at the Farmer's Market. I know you love getting locally-made and hand-grown corsages for Prom and Mother's Day. But seriously. How much flower power can you get and not get sick of it? Because I'm trying to pitch the idea of a boutique flower bar inside of one of the local shops. (Currently drowning in dahlias, for example.)

So would you maybe/definitely/not even/go nuts for the chance to make your own bouquet and take it home during the week? Then still come see me on Saturday mornings?
