We just finished booking our trip to Virginia Beach next weekend for Alee's birthday, and Mom's volunteered to watch Adelaide for the weekend, and I've [...] found the ring, so it's official. Next weekend is it. I thought curious minds might want to know.

If this doesn't go how I'm hoping it will go, though, I'm going to pretend like you all know nothing and this never happened. 😉

Three weeks, guys. It took three weeks to get stopped at the grocery store by a complete stranger, be asked if I'm Alejo's niece, then suggested I meet their grandson. I'm afraid the wine, ice cream, and pile of Valentine's Day candy that I planned on consuming myself might have given the wrong message.

Coming up with a Halloween costume for Andre has been easy the last 3 times, since he was too young to have an opinion. His mom and I picked something cute, and that was that.

This year he has opinions. At first I'm thinking, great, he'll be a dinosaur. Or Daniel Tiger, or Elmo.

Then, out of nowhere, he says he wants to be Black Panther. He hasn't seen the movie, but he has his heart set on it, and all I keep thinking is at least he's not going as the subject of someone else's dreams.

ALEE

I know who I am in my dreams. I mean, I (Zeke) know the person I'm dreaming about outside of the dreams themselves. The problem is that I don't want to be that person and the terrifying thing is that I can see myself in him regardless of whether I want to, or not.

This week’s playlist will be all Aretha. These kids need to know soul.

Every summer, my students and I do this thing where we make playlists for each other. I keep up with what they're interested in and vice versa, we introduce each other to new artists. Sometimes they think my stuff's boring as hell, but then one of them will show up to class on the first day and say they couldn't stop listening to something and went out to get the rest of an artist's album. I live for those days. But even when they don't dig it, the point's more to listen to something outside of their comfort zone.

This week, it's favorite movie soundtracks, and I got caught up thinking about Black P how incredible Romeo + Juliet's was, so I've made no progress at all.

I have never been this damn happy to be so tired. And it's not even the fact that my baby girl wakes us up every three to four hours, it's because I can hardly go to sleep because I want to be right there when she wakes up to see her little eyes find our faces and the way the sight of our faces calms her at least a little. Because she knows when she sees us, we'll give her whatever she needs. This is every bit as exhausting and weird as they tell you to expect, but it's everything. I don't even remember who I was before I was my baby girl's daddy.

I felt obligated to find out what kind of mum I'm going to be based on my description of the perfect child.

"You got: You will be a GREAT mom, but pretty overprotective.

You've heard of the helicopter parent, right? That's pretty much you, and TBH this type of mom has a lot of amazing characteristics! Your kids will always feel loved and will always know they can come to your for anything. You tend to worry, but only because you love your kid so much. You're going to be a great parent!"

Helicopter parent sums it up well, yes. My poor child.

Vaguely unrelated, is anyone out there willing to be paid to paint a mural for a nursery? My artistic skills are lacking, to say the least, but I'd like something more than solid colors in the room. Let me know!

Hello, Dunhaven!

I'm pretty sure everyone knows me because I am legitimately the loudest resident in this town but, for the sake of modesty, allow me to introduce myself to anyone who doesn't. I am Charlie Parker, a senior at Athena Academy. For one of my capstone projects, I am hosting a social experiment that requires your help. It's kind of like Post-Secret which, if you're unfamiliar with it, is a project that collects anonymous secrets on postcards. It's wonderful and I highly recommend it. I would like to conduct something similar here, though it would be isolated to the network versus mailing me your secrets. It's really easy to participate. All you have to do is leave me an anonymous secret here. All comments are anonymous in that even I won't be able to tell who posted them. Though anonymous, they will be public. Comments can be anything, even something as simple as song lyrics that speak to you but that you wouldn't share with other people normally.

Please help me, Dunhaven! You're my only hope of getting a passing grade on this capstone!
