Hi, I'm Dax. Ezri Dax. Actually, it's Lieutenant— but you can just call me Dax. I'm not from this time... or this planet. I went to school here a few times, but was never a permanent resident. I've been sort of been to Vegas before, but it was a holographic simulation set in the early 1960s. It looked a lot different when it was just photons and force fields...

I think that it's clear from the events of last night that it's not safe inside this place. I know that a lot of people have been looking out for sparring partners and I thought that it would be good to organize some sort of club for that. We could all meet once a week and rotate who spars with whom. With any luck, everyone can find partners that they can work well with. In the meantime, we can sharpen our skills to use against anyone that might threaten us, whether from within or without these walls.

I want to open this up to people of all skill levels. We can figure out where everyone's skills lie during the first meeting and assign partners accordingly. I'm also going to set some rules to make sure that no one gets too badly hurt.

I'll set up the first meeting for next week, January 14th, in the gym. Let me know here if you're interested and what your skill level is and I'll add you to my list.

I had some munitions and other ninja gear from home show up in my room yesterday, but I wanted you to know that I did not do this.

We're all talking about the people we miss. How it's hard to be away from family, and how important it is to be hopeful about the friends and the bonds we have here but --

Well -- I guess I have a story about it. About how sometimes when the right people aren't there, the world'll stop for you.

When I was finally deemed old enough to be out past midnight by my mom -- I think I was maybe eight or nine -- I used to go to Time Square to see the ball drop on New Years Eve with my best friend. We got older, things changed, my mom died, Bucky started working all the time -- but no matter what, New Years Eve was always our thing.

Bucky signed up to go overseas. I couldn't go with him, I was rejected. By then, I think it was for the fourth time. So a few weeks before New Years, he was off to train for the army and I... wasn't.

And then they announced that because of the blackouts, because of the war. They were going to cancel the ball drop and the celebration. Of course I knew, I knew that it was too risky to light up the city like that. I knew that obviously New York would be stupid to go ahead with it but... I just remember thinking when I heard it on the wireless that of course there could be no ball drop. Bucky wasn't there. It's like the whole city stopped.

Instead, there was a moment of silence, to absent friends. I think that's what I'll be doing, Tuesday at midnight.

I was wondering if there was a Miss Dinah Lance around? It appears that we're roommates.

Merry Christmas to everyone. Looks like a White Christmas after all, so that's certainly more than I expected from this place. And today being what it is even makes the singing elves festive instead of annoying.

And a few people showed up last night from my reality. Sort of. I tried to explain to them about what things are like in your world so hopefully there's less confusion, but all the same... be nice to them if you see them? Just in case you know any of them, it's Barbara Gordon, Helena Bertinelli, and Mia Dearden.

This'll be the first Christmas I've ever seen without snow. There was always a little on the ground by now in New York and plenty in the ice and mud in France. But, I guess since I'm not frozen in the stuff, I really shouldn't complain.

To everyone who signed up for the Gift Exchange, some people have left a little information about themselves and what they like here. If you haven't already, it might be a good idea to do that so we can all get to know each other better and your Secret Santa can figure out what sorts of gifts to give to you.

Feel free to leave smaller surprises for your person leading up to the party. Then we'll have a party on the 20th and you can give your main gift to the person whose name you've gotten and tell them who you are. As for the gifts, it seems as though anything from the Mandalay gift shop is complimentary but if you have to go outside the hotel for them, let's try to keep the dollar amount around $20 or under so people aren't breaking the bank for the exchange.
