Citizens of Austin,

As we begin to move forward from the tragic incidents experienced during the September 2019 events, our office is nearing the completion of its investigations. Our intent has been to determine probable causes, identify known and likely catalysts, and create plans for prevention.

We know that as the days pass and people fall to the virus, we are losing important and loved members of our community. Know this is not something that I or this office takes lightly. The nature of our world today is such that blanket promises cannot be made, but our goal is to honor their lives with improved prevention, security, and city-wide strength.

We have been in contact with state and city heads from other regions within the United States as well in order to learn more about and identify best practices. Barricade reconstruction and reinforcements continue in earnest and the information we've gathered has led to an improved understanding of the nature of the zombie virus and how it spreads.

I have such a light schedule today, with only some afternoon meetings scheduled, that I decided to read the book club book this morning. With it still raining outside I stayed in my pajamas and under the comforter all morning. Can't remember the last time I did that.

For those of you unaware, tomorrow's bookclub selection is The Great Gatsby. I read it for English class when I was in high school, but that seems like a lifetime ago, so it was quite a treat to read it again. I hope it will be added to the new GED curriculum, if it's not in it already, because it's a classic for a reason. All of the imagery, from Doctor T.J. Eckleberg's watching eyes to the green light, it really helps give the story a deeper meaning. I look forward to discussing it tomorrow with my fellow bookclub attendees.

Citizens of Austin,

I write to you today to provide clarification on today's events.

Many of you in the LBJ and UMCB Districts have reported hearing faint gunshots within the last hour, coming from the northern portion of unincorporated Austin. This was the result of a clash between our police force and the remaining rogue outlaw suspects who purported a continued association between themselves and the Hellhound motorcycle club.

We are pleased to share that the Austin Police Department successfully contained the suspects and they are now in custody within La Quinta.

Please note that our administration has once again confirmed that the members of the Hellhound motorcycle club, who are all registered citizens of Austin, Texas, are committed to upholding the law and are well aware of the consequences they -- or any other lawless citizen, Hellhound or not -- would experience should they step outside the law.

We continue to advise precaution on our city streets, though we express optimism that for now, the sole threat remains the undead.

So the graffiti that popped up in a couple of places around the city is something I heard about a few times, but today I actually ran across the one in the Capitol district. It looks pretty bad ass up there with those bold colors. Maybe I'm missing something though because I just don't know what the hell it means. If somebody out there is revering handcuffs, man, you're doing it so wrong.

It's just been the two so far, right? I looked around the artwork a minute to see if there was a signature or anything hidden in the design but didn't see one. A patrol came along pretty quick after that so I had to split before they got the idea that maybe I was behind it. And I started thinking -- remember when crop circles were a thing? Popular theories said they were made by aliens landing out in the fields or secret government testing of some classified project, but all the skeptics said that it was just a group of people playing a prank. Maybe this graffiti is Austin's version of crop circles. Could be anyone is responsible, and it will stay a mystery forever.

(But c'mon it's always aliens, man.)

Captain Van Dale has corroborated the reports of US soldiers' involvement in the altercation as well; I have attached his report to this message. There don't seem to be any public messages posted in response, so I'm unable to glean anything besides the initial details included in the original post, but I do ask that you keep our office in the loop of any investigations done by your staff.

Who doesn't love a good conspiracy am I right? This place I crash has what's easily Austin's biggest collection of books on the topic of secret government projects, the Illuminati, and anything to do with aliens that you can imagine. No seriously. You would not believe some of the crap that people actually dreamed up and tried to sell as the truth.

The CIA has a secret space program. And yeah they totally have space-treaties with extraterrestrials, who may or may not live on Mars. Or it might be that we have a secret base on Mars. The author isn't sure of anything except that something hinky is going on over on the red planet next door. The proof? Well that part seems to have been left out. But c'mon it's always aliens, man.

You'd think that after almost three years, my mind would have learned that dreaming about fluffy bacon pancakes and cheese omelets is only going to wind up badly for both of us. (Me and my mind, just to be clear.)
