Hey Austin,

The Santa Competition went off amazingly and was a great first fundraiser for the Orphanage, so thank you to everyone who came out and showed support for the event and the orphanage! Dr. Whelan has asked me to help them with new fundraising ideas that could happen throughout the year, which I'm extremely excited about. So far a few ideas have been discussed now we’re looking for public opinion on which would hold more interest and/or have more items donated.

Both are auctions of a sort.

The first idea was a date auction, though this would require people to be willing to spend an evening with a possible stranger.

The second idea is a silent auction. This one would require donations from local businesses of goods or services.

I’ve seen both done extremely well and been very successful. So tell me Austin, which would hold your attention more or earn your support?

I hear what's left of US is better off than Austin, but to this guy it seems pretty damn sophisticated. We managed okay enough back home in Johnson City, but we didn't have anything like y'all do here.

I guess the first thing to check off my new-to-the-city list is 'get a job.' Anyone have any leads? I got most of my experience farming but that ain't the only thing I could do, depending.

Hello Austin! Or should I be saying howdy? My name is JJ and I'm an Army Chaplain. I've been cleaning up St. Mary's Cathedral and though the place is still looking a little rough, I'll be hosting Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services for anyone who is interested. From what I've heard there aren't any churches here yet, so it seems I got here just in time!

So... as a newcomer to Austin where should I go and what should I do? Throw the new guy a bone!

Greetings Austin! My name is Beau, I'm a new schoolteacher in town and I'm looking for a few businesses, offices, or individuals that would be willing to host some field trips for some very energetic, very eager-to-learn preschoolers. I know having 10-15 little munchkins running around a place of business might not be everybody's cup of tea but if I could get a few of you to humor me, I'd love for my students to be able to experience Austin in a fun and educational way! If you have any questions about what the field trips would entail, or are yourself looking for a preschool or daycare for your own kids, please feel free to reply to this post, or shoot me a private message at your earliest convenience.

Unrelated but equally important, I heard there was a place called The Bar that was looking for part time work but when I dropped by it didn't seem like anybody was home? Did it shutter its doors or did I just drop in at a bad time?

Last thing, I swear. Anybody out there do alterations or tailoring? There's something about this Texas air that's got my three kids growing like weeds. I swear the oldest has shot up half an inch since we've moved here, and it's only been 2 days. If there was somebody who was handy with a needle and thread I'd love to throw some hems their way to be let down.

Sorry this post became a sort of "catch all" to all of my newcomer problems...it's the first time I've had more than two minutes to myself since we got to Austin and if I don't get it all my questions out in one fell swoop who knows when I'll have the chance next?
