Note

The freenet is a city-wide wifi network -- sans the Internet as we know it -- that survivors use to communicate via message board, call, or text. Freenet users create their own usernames to log in with when they sign up for the Freenet, so a character does not have to post under their real name if they don't want to.

When posting to the Freenet, please specify whether you are posting a text or a public/private message board post.

The rumors
Are terrible and cruel
But, honey most of them are true
'Cause, baby, I could build a castle
Out of all the bricks they threw at me

My name is Charisse Maria Davis Chan -- but everyone knows me as Cherry. / My name is Cordelia Wallace, though I was born Rebekah Campbell. )

I mean, we all make mistakes but this is a little embarrassing for the new flower shop, isn't it?! Not that I'm not super amused by everything!!! I mean, Max obviously got me something and it went to someone else, and he didn't forget

Hey Austin,

The Santa Competition went off amazingly and was a great first fundraiser for the Orphanage, so thank you to everyone who came out and showed support for the event and the orphanage! Dr. Whelan has asked me to help them with new fundraising ideas that could happen throughout the year, which I'm extremely excited about. So far a few ideas have been discussed now we’re looking for public opinion on which would hold more interest and/or have more items donated.

Both are auctions of a sort.
  • The first idea was a date auction, though this would require people to be willing to spend an evening with a possible stranger.

  • The second idea is a silent auction. This one would require donations from local businesses of goods or services.

  • I’ve seen both done extremely well and been very successful. So tell me Austin, which would hold your attention more or earn your support?

Hey are you still good for that shopping trip we talked about? Just realized tomorrow is the day and I've got nothing. Mia wants to pick out something too so unless it's okay if she ends up with the sparkliest thing they're selling at the mall these days we could probably use some advice there too.

Have we mentioned how grateful we are yet?

Thank you to all who nominated and voted in the very important Austin's Battle of the Santas. After a round of nominations and an even more exciting round of run-off voting, the people of Austin have spoken! Here are your selections:

    Capitol District:
    Santa Claus: Isaac Callahan
    Mr. Claus: Kāne Van Dale
    Elves: Nina Clarke, Kevin Clarke

    LBJ District:
    Santa Claus: Beau Waites

    Elves: Nick Choi, Luc Flores

    UMCB District:

    Mrs. Claus: Shelby Thomas
    Elves: Lita Singh, Rose Montgomery

    Greenbelt District:

Congratulations to all. Don't forget that the Battle of the Santas will be happening at the LBJ Community Center on December 5th. Photos will be $10 and all money raised will go towards Austin's new orphanage foundation.

From the desk of Isaac Callahan,
    Department of Justice Commissioner
    Interim Mayor of Austin

    Two additional notes:
    1. I swear on the Texas State Constitution that I did not stuff the ballot box to win the role of Santa Claus.
    2. If for some (absurd) reason you wish to withdraw your candidacy, please send me a private message.

As enjoyable as the holiday season can be for some, for others it is often a lonely and stressful time. This is a friendly reminder from the Care and Psychological Department to make mental health a priority. There are various support groups offered at the UMCB, including a new one for those needing a safe space to speak about their experiences from the recent zombie outbreak we had. Those will be meeting weekly on Wednesday afternoons at 4pm. However, if a group setting is not a good fit for you and you're still interested in counseling or any kind of support our department can offer, please reach out for private appointment availability. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance.

I am so excited to share the first two interviews of the new Austin Interview Project are now live on the Freenet if you haven't seen them on your list already!! Our goal in the Department of Vital Communications, besides obviously keeping the Freenet up and running and making sure that we can communicate with each other in a vital way, is to showcase the personal stories of the people of Austin. No matter how long you have been in this city, everyone has a story to tell and a personal impact that they make on the world around us.

If you would like to sign up for an interview, just let me know!!!

OOC: You can sign up by commenting on this post or at this post in Cherry's journal.

Fair warning to anyone thinking they might want to visit Walker’s. You may want to be prepared to see some walkers in the process. Who knew that a trip to the grocery store would require you were up on your cardio. That was definitely not the early evening activity I had in mind for my day off.

Also I hate calling people out publicly so I won't use your name, but to the woman who became my running partner, I hope you're doing okay.

I've talked to a few of you about starting a book club here in Austin, and we'll be able to begin meeting at the Lending Library at the beginning of next month. With this in mind, I've been looking for a book to discuss. To my great chagrin, the only books available in bulk in the local bookstores (enough for us to begin a book club, I mean, quantity-wise) is Twilight. I guess no one really wanted it for their shelters back before things changed.

The next book we'll be reading, if you want to order it from the catalog, will be The Great Gatsby. But if you want to do something with your free time now, we have several copies of the first Twilight book available at the Lending Library for anyone who wants to pick it up. Maybe we can hate-read that one.

Maybe this is a sort of unusual use of the Freenet, but I was wondering if there are any gay women out there who would be interested in someone really pretty and smart? Or bi/pan/sexualqueer women, whatever! Either way though, my friend is a real catch. I would absolutely date her myself if I wasn't straight.

Here are some things to know about my friend.

    -- She's really pretty!
-- She likes to cover up her rockin' body with sweater vests and frumpy skirts, so if you're into that sexual librarian aesthetic she would be perfect for you!!!!
-- I'm not making up the part about her rockin' body by the way. Even though I'm straight I have seen her without her clothes on many a time!!
-- She is very smart and well-educated!!
-- She has resting bitch face which makes you feel very successful when you get her to smile!
-- Racists need not apply because my friend is super proud of being a WOC!!!

If you are interested in dating my friend, please send me a private message in order for me to screen applicants.
