Greetings Austin! My name is Beau, I'm a new schoolteacher in town and I'm looking for a few businesses, offices, or individuals that would be willing to host some field trips for some very energetic, very eager-to-learn preschoolers. I know having 10-15 little munchkins running around a place of business might not be everybody's cup of tea but if I could get a few of you to humor me, I'd love for my students to be able to experience Austin in a fun and educational way! Unrelated but equally important, I heard there was a place called The Bar that was looking for part time work but when I dropped by it didn't seem like anybody was home? Did it shutter its doors or did I just drop in at a bad time?

Last thing, I swear. Anybody out there do alterations or tailoring? There's something about this Texas air that's got my three kids growing like weeds. I swear the oldest has shot up half an inch since we've moved here, and it's only been 2 days. If there was somebody who was handy with a needle and thread I'd love to throw some hems their way to be let down.

Sorry this post became a sort of "catch all" to all of my newcomer problems...it's the first time I've had more than two minutes to myself since we got to Austin and if I don't get it all my questions out in one fell swoop who knows when I'll have the chance next?

Thank you all for the gifts! The baked goods and pierogi are much better than the food they have here, and the sweater is very comfortable. Such a bold pattern. It's almost December. Such a volatile time of year and the skies are no exception.

It is no wonder that they chose this month, for the Star of Bethlehem is unmistakeable. But is this guiding star really a star? There is some debate but those that know the skies best think that it really was the convergence of two planets. A miraculous sight to be sure. Venus and Jupiter colliding. This won't happen this December. It already happened in July.

I missed it because I was high

But what of this December? Geminid meteors will shoot across the sky like glitter and there will be a full moon on Christmas.

Please let me know if you'd like to know more. I would be happy to share. The sky is for all of us. It is our constant companion.

I'm going to be taking a brief sojourn to UMCB, leaving on the 4th. My intention isn't to be gone very long, but any appointments between the 4th and the 7th will be rescheduled -- I'll do my best to keep times and days consistent!

Another star has gone out in The Big Dipper. That's the second one in that constellation- Alkaid before (The start of the handle) and now Megrez (the bottom left of the dipper itself). I wonder if it's chaos. Chaos is such a strange force.

Does anyone in Austin know how to cut hair? It wouldn't need to be anything fancy, just a trim. I usually do it myself, but it's been a while and I never was able to get the back straight. I could trade for it, either some instant coffee or a jar of honey, or I'm decent at sewing, if anyone has some clothing that needs to be mended. I'm staying at the UMCB, but would be willing to travel.
