As enjoyable as the holiday season can be for some, for others it is often a lonely and stressful time. This is a friendly reminder from the Care and Psychological Department to make mental health a priority. There are various support groups offered at the UMCB, including a new one for those needing a safe space to speak about their experiences from the recent zombie outbreak we had. Those will be meeting weekly on Wednesday afternoons at 4pm. However, if a group setting is not a good fit for you and you're still interested in counseling or any kind of support our department can offer, please reach out for private appointment availability. Confidentiality is of the utmost importance.

I am so excited to share the first two interviews of the new Austin Interview Project are now live on the Freenet if you haven't seen them on your list already!! Our goal in the Department of Vital Communications, besides obviously keeping the Freenet up and running and making sure that we can communicate with each other in a vital way, is to showcase the personal stories of the people of Austin. I have such a light schedule today, with only some afternoon meetings scheduled, that I decided to read the book club book this morning. With it still raining outside I stayed in my pajamas and under the comforter all morning. Can't remember the last time I did that.

For those of you unaware, tomorrow's bookclub selection is The Great Gatsby. I read it for English class when I was in high school, but that seems like a lifetime ago, so it was quite a treat to read it again. I hope it will be added to the new GED curriculum, if it's not in it already, because it's a classic for a reason. All of the imagery, from Doctor T.J. Eckleberg's watching eyes to the green light, it really helps give the story a deeper meaning. I look forward to discussing it tomorrow with my fellow bookclub attendees.

Citizens of Austin, My name is Angelica Hemings and I am the President of the United States. As of today, the Third of June, 2019, Reeves Olinger no longer holds the post of Mayor of Austin, Texas. Due to his regime's numerous violations of human and legal rights, the suppression of medical treatment, withholding of resources and utilities, and a farcical approach to urban and governmental leadership, his removal has long been overdue. His immediate colleagues -- the Commissioner of the Department of Resources, the Commissioner of the Department of Justice, the Warden of La Quinta Prison, and all Patrolmen -- have also been removed from their posts. I regret to inform you that Mr. Olinger was named to this post by my predecessor, President Thomas Boonman, who led the United States from September 2016 to April 2018. Mr. Olinger fed falsified reports to our administration, indicating the safety and wellbeing of your communities while claiming that Praxacaterol was only being used to test an efficacy of a zombie virus cure. Every mention and attempt on our part to move forward towards resolution and his removal was met with severe threats and claims to bomb the Austin as a whole, effectively creating a city-wide hostage situation that has only just now been defused. Words cannot express how sorry I am that President Boonman -- and myself, after ascending to his position -- never thought to look closer at Mr. Olinger's reports until I became aware of the reality of the situation. I know Mr. Olinger hasn't set a precedent for governmental trust and I don't expect belief nor support at this time or at any point within the near future. But on behalf of the United States government, I pledge to be your faithful public servant. Please read on for an overview of immediate policies and changes that you can expect: Starting immediately, all citizens of Austin -- no matter which shelter you call your home, or whichever misdeeds may be in your past or present -- will be eligible to receive fresh food and water as we work to rebuild your city and your health. Please see the attachment detailing the locations of governmental aid. Beginning on June 10, all recipients of government rations will be required to register for new US ID cards in order to continue receiving provisions. Registration is voluntary. However, anyone who chooses to forgo registering will be required to provide for their own rations -- and resource theft is considered a crime. To those who've promoted criminality in Austin, our country is founded on the principle of justice -- but we also value recovery and forward growth. While blanket amnesty will be granted for the crimes of the past, a blind eye will no longer be turned toward the raiding and violence that have been part of life in Austin for so long. All patched and prospective members of the outlaw motorcycle group known as "The Hellhounds" will be subject to a probationary period, and anyone found to have been imprisoned or the subject of outstanding warrants at the time of the uprising will be placed under similar restrictions. This probationary period will end on August 10 and all those who have complied will be able to move forward with their lives. However, anyone found violating their probationary period -- including the theft of food and water after June 10 -- will be prosecuted accordingly.
