It's obvious that this is a publicity stunt. Good attention/bad attention: it's all attention. It draws your focus back to the movie and especially toward Moira.

Today, JJ managed to get access to the cell phone numbers of people listed on this page. He sent non-stop texts to each phone through his computer. He used Tor, which blocked his IP address, and used a spoof texting program which sent ridiculously stupid jokes, sections of the dictionary--word, definition, used in a sentence--, fast food orders/requests, and things of this nature.

The texts come from different numbers, so if one number was blocked, another number popped up, and so on. JJ let the program run on his computer while he was out and about. He stopped the texts around 10 PM.
