that scientists define sleep as "being still and having little to no reaction to attempts to awaken". some animals that require little to no sleep include:

giraffes- to avoid falling prey to predators, they do not lie down to sleep. they rest while standing, sleeping in increments of five minutes, and usually only sleep for up to about thirty minutes per day. they have the shortest sleeping requirement of any mammal.

dolphins- they sleep while they swim. to avoid drowning, they use unihemispheric sleep which is a fancy way of saying that half of their brain sleeps while the other half swims or floats in the water, which is called logging. whales, orcas, and porpoises are a few of the other marine mammals that sleep in this way.

bullfrogs- they are the only animal known to survive without sleeping for months at a time. they might close their eyes to rest, but they are always awake enough to respond to pain or to show respiratory changes. typically, the only time they 'sleep' is to survive harsh winters, which is when they hibernate.

often associated with fire in mythology, salamanders are drawn to rotting wood. they will find shelter in rotting logs. when the logs are used for firewood, the salamanders will escape to avoid the heat. thus magically appearing from the flames.

This message is primarily for the members of the film production crew, but I thought that I might as well open it up to the community at large -- in the case that anyone has any contributions or might have had the idea to do something similar.

Our dear friend Moira leaves behind a family who loved her, and I would like to put together a nice, thoughtful gesture to let them know that we cared about their loved one and hold the family in our thoughts. I am commissioning an LA florist to put together a display, and I would like to pen a letter that can be included with the delivery.

If anyone would like to contribute memories of Moira for me to include, that would be greatly appreciated! It can be whatever you would like and feel is appropriate, in your hand or mine.

I think it would be important for the family to know that she was with friends in Fall City.
