Well, Veronica, you're back to a one-woman detective unit. Which (to be fair) is your natural and reliable state. We're only in an alternate universe; there's no need to change things up so much.

I keep hoping I'll get used to seeing Lilly's face. That I'll turn a corner, see Luna Lovegood, and be perfectly unaffected. Composed. Cool. She's paler than Lilly was - going to guess the Lovegoods don't have a swimming pool out back - but I've seen her smile. Had to turn around, walk away. It's not her fault, and she doesn't need to know. "Hi, you look like my murdered best friend. Did you know that I've seen your brain peeking out from your hair part? Wowsers."

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you don't drag bystanders into your bullshit. Be an island, Mars. Not all of us can be Maui. You can settle for being Staten.

There is nothing worse than half a dozen sick babies, and I know that I'm going to get sick in the middle of all of this. I'll press on, though. Work to be done, but if anyone needs anything for the Chancellor, I'm in my housing unit, but I can be reached through radio.

I ask that all of those who are experiencing symptoms and are in positions where they will be dealing with people to please stay in your quarters. We will fill in without having to jeopardize your health.

You were right the other day. I should know better, and I should keep some things to myself around other people. They don't need to know everything.

But we still need to talk.

I know the call has gone out, but if anyone of the very young or very old begin to experience flu-like systems, please visit us in medical so that we can keep an eye on you. To those of you who find yourself falling in between and experiencing symptoms, take these following recommendations seriously, because I am a doctor. So listen.

The flu is a virus and it generally can't be treated unless it's caught extremely early. Therefore, the management of symptoms is the main thing we need to be concerned with outside of full-blown prevention. While you're washing your hands frequently and staying out of public areas, here are a couple things to help you alleviate symptoms:

LIQUIDS. Your virus will thrive in dried out throats and nasal passages. Drink frequently - water, unsweetened juice or decaffeinated tea. If the gatherers or the kitchen can find any echinacea, this might be helpful to the cause.

NEUTROPHILS. These are white blood cells inhibited by soups such as vegetable or chicken noodle (any soup that raises the temperature in the throat, really).

ALLICIN. Garlic contains this pungent antimicrobial. If garlic is available, try to ingest a clove every 3-4 hours. Sorry vampires.

SWEAT. Spices like cinnamon, coriander and ginger are often thought to alleviate fever. If these spices are available, try 250 mL of hot water, mix 1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) each of powdered coriander and cinnamon with 1/4 teaspoon (1 mL) of powdered ginger. Let it steep for 10 minutes, then drink.

If anyone's down with the pod god and wants to make some requests. Now might be a good time to ask him for some chicken soup and decongestant.
