Know what? I am glad you all enjoyed the magical additions or whatever to the game but its not going to ever be what the lessons or the tourney are about every month. And no way are we going to be playing some weird version that crushes the pieces. What a waste?

For me anyway, its about more than just sitting there, its not something you can do while multitasking, not in any tourney setting, whatever you do on your own time is up to you but its not Chess. Chess in that setting, its focus, its determination, it's skill. Why the hell do you need magic to make that better. It's already better. Magic can't do everything. More to the point it shouldn't do everything

But look, If you want to crush the pieces, get someone magic to replicate them and hope it doesn't screw up. But you're not crushing any of the sets we have. There's not an endless supply.

So, Wizard Chess....it's certainly different.

Not sure if I'll ever get used to the pieces moving themselves.

I want to remind anyone who interested in trying wizard's chess, and who isn't too shellshocked from the educational seminar, that tonight's Chess Club meeting will be the first public trial. I would appreciate any feedback you give on how it performs.

Those from my world: you know what to expect from wizard's chess, so please alert me to any deviations in how the chess pieces behave for you or if you notice them in how they behave for any of your opponents.

Those not from my world: the chess pieces should obey your commands to move to the directed space. You will name which piece is to move and the space to which it will go. The correct piece should relocate itself as directed by sliding to that space. In a fully developed wizard's chess set, the pieces would capture the opponent's piece; we will not be testing that behavior just yet, so you will need to manually remove captured pieces from the board. If you are a non-magical person-- a "Muggle"-- I would like to know if the pieces fail to respond to your commands or if they give you any grief. If you're of magical stock, please watch for any irregularities in how they react.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you tonight. You may leave your feedback on this post after the meeting.

I was recently able to acquire a very functional shirt made of an unfamiliar material that was referred to as 'flannel'. Very soft, quite warm. While I don't abide by the idea of the Pod Gods, nor am I particularly impressed by the frozen squirrel that was recently shoved in my face accompanied by a fanatic shrieking at me to "BELIEVE", whatever forces are governing this world at least do provide a variety of items with which to pad our stack.

Although the reasoning behind spectacles sans prescription is eluding me.

Chess club, I am somewhat new to your game. Ms. Frye has taught me the basics; if it is allowed, might I sit in and watch your games tonight?

One extremely cobbled-together batch of beast incense, left in your laboratory for study! Consider it a bouquet in honour of the debut of your upcoming class. Good luck!

Regarding the bouquet, it's missing one vital ingredient: moonflowers, or as we call them back home, Lumenflowers. It's far too cold at the moment for them to grow, but if I see any on my journeys I will procure them and bring them to you. Otherwise, it is as it was back home, or as close as I am able to manage it.

Are you feeling alright? You were running really hot yesterday.

That was fun to adjudicate. And there were some surprising winners there.

Congratulations to Prue Halliewell, Sandrilene fa Toren and Maz Kanata for winning their categories. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.

Helpfully everyone regained their ages in time for the Tourney tomorrow. I could think of absolutely nothing more awful than being a kid again so, hope you're all recovered/not entirely mentally scarred See Vassy, empathy

...Which is a sentence I never thought I'd say. This place is still basically crazy.

Reasonably good sign ups though, and no I was six for the last few days excuses. It's not going to make you better or worse at this stage.

Just a reminder that the first monthly chess tournament is on Thursday.

Please try to be realistic when you sign up for the categories. You'll only disappoint yourself if you over estimate your own abilities. Or lack a challenge if you under estimate them.

Anyone who's new, or missed the previous announcements. Chess Club meets every Thursday. With the last meeting of every month being dedicated to a Tournament.

Chess club tomorrow and I'm happy to say most of you aren't terrible.

The beginners seem to be listening and interested so color me pleasently surprised.

Now if only I could get used to living in a damn mountain and hearing that there might be a dragon dropped into casual mountain conversation.

Thank you everyone who came to the first Chess Club last night. I hope you all had fun. Freddie and I look forward to seeing you all again next week.

And, just to remind anyone else. If you like chess, or are interested in learning. We meet every Thursday night. And happily give lessons for those that want them.

And, the last Thursday of every month, we'll have a tournament.

I'm sure my sisters are going to laugh at me but I think I'll go to chess club tonight. It's one of those games I always wanted to lean how to play but never had the time or anyone to teach me.

Well now I've got plenty of time. So Phoebe, Paige? Are you in?

Does your Chess Club organize championship events?

So, well done to all of you who sensibly hid their computers for the duration of the ridiculous truth telling.

Not that I noticed a difference. Bluntness is kind of a trait.

Anyway, I've had this idea to run a Chess tournement. For those of us who want something more cerebral than punching each other. Me and Vassy would adjudicate. Not participate obviously, that'd just defeat the purpose.

And we're looking at lessons, Beginner, intermediate and advanced. It focuses the mind, its stratagy, its tactics and it's been around in one form or another since the 6th century.

There'll be a sign up for both sooner or later, but, yeah. Sign up.

[Florence]

So, you avoided the hell out of me last few days.

Weird.

Maybe I will go out again until you all go back to normal. I don't like this.

Do weeks like this happen often?

Freddie

I've been thinking. We both need something familiar to do.

Maybe we could set up a Chess Tournament? But, we'd be the adjudicators, rather than play. Because, I doubt there's anyone who could match me, let alone you.

This place really does take some getting used to, doesn't it? Even with everyone trying to keep things normal, with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. How do you ever get used to being here? To the strange things that keep happening?

Can we talk?

[info]familiarscene

I'm still not sure how this could at all be possible.

Still, since I'm told that my ex is here. And I feel like I should apologise for whatever Freddie might have said or done without me here. Which is a habit I'd rather get out of.

Anyway, I should introduce myself. I'm Florence Vassy. It's nice to meet you all.

Testing?

This is so stupid. What am I even supposed to say? Should have given me a script, Bell

I'm supposed to be doing a test to see who can actually see this to check and see if the network is up and running. I guess if you can see this, reply back with your name and if you're having any kind of issues? I can pass them along to whoever.
