This is getting old. There's some epic fail or epic trolling happening up in here.

I can't believe I

I know we're all recovering from what happened and Christmas is right around the corner — I don't want to pile too hard on anyone's plate, but I wanted to make everyone aware of where I've been.

I flew out to the Raven Rock Mountain Complex in Pennsylvania, another nuclear bunker like this one. In the war, it housed important Pentagon employees, but as far as I can tell they didn't survive like the community at Mount Weather. Still trying to figure out exactly what happened. They might have run out of food. I didn't get too involved in searching for answers yet. There's no evidence of slaughter, at least, but I will say this: the place isn't ... abandoned. It's Creepsville. Seriously.

So: I need to put together a small team to head out there after the new year to pick through what they have and bring back any usable supplies. It's mostly salvage and scrap metal at this point, but we can always use that.

Volunteer if you:
  • Have flight or teleportation ability over long distances.

  • Have some military and/or survival training.

  • Are over age 18.

If we have a teleporter capable of taking other people alone we might consider people who can't fly, but because of weather, supplies, and the situation with the Grounders, we can't risk any kind of long-distance travel on foot.

All volunteers need to be approved by myself and the Council. We're not risking lives by taking someone out who's unprepared or lies about being qualified.

STEVE:
I still can't believe I missed all this. I leave for what, four days, and we get attacked? I could have helped. Christ.

[...] Look, I'm not going to tell you to stay in bed or anything but take care of yourself and don't push. There's time to recover, so just be good to yourself.

Why are there trees on all the tables and these red flowers and stuff?

[Nico]
It melted.

I think I didn't allow enough air space for the heating elements.

Has anyone figured out yet how to bring people here that should be here? I'm fine with it involving diligent toil or human sacrifice.

Also, "happy holidays". I was told that was an appropriate seasonal greeting.

... speed dating is all very well and good, but what about Christmas? Are we doing Christmas? Please, I do hope that Christmas didn't also get ballasted to smithereens. I know that there is much to be anxious about, but much to be thankful for too. I fervently hope that Christmas will occur.

[PRIVATE]
My dearest Lucy,

Again I fear that I live in a land where it is always winter and never Christmas. As the snow flies deep and regular, I cannot help but be reminded of Jadis in the days before our rule. Indeed, when I am about my patrols, I cannot help but listen for the jangle of sleigh bells.

Fate would not bring her to me without you, without Peter, without Edmund? Fate could not ...

So, I've been thinking.

It's definitely not easy being in a new place all alone, as a lot of us are, or at least without most of our friends/family/other loved ones, and I've seen people talking about being bored/that there isn't enough to do here, which I totally get. When I'm done working, sometimes all I want to do is stare at the wall because I think I work more continuous hours here than I did at home and it's not as varied (superhero work might not pay well, but it's never exactly the same!), and when everyone is busy with their jobs at different hours, that doesn't leave as much time to randomly chat up that cute person in the hallway as you might think. It's easy to think, oh, I can do that tomorrow or they're probably on their way somewhere, I shouldn't bug them. But I think this is the perfect place to throw caution to the wind and go for something if you really want it. What do you have to lose? We never know what the future has in store for us, here or anywhere else, and it's going to be a long winter.

So, I'm hosting a SPEED DATING night on Saturday! The idea is you'll get a few minutes to chat with someone awesome, and maybe you'll really hit it off and get to take them to movie night. Or you might just meet a new friend, who knows! Either way, you'll meet people and get to hang out and have fun.

FRIENDS:
Anya, you're going. :)
JOHNNY STORM:
You get to help me. :)

Christmas come early? I wasn't expecting to be able to suddenly be able to stream the entire Buffy series on my tablet, and yet. I mean, I doubt the people from the verse appreciate it, but I could handle someone implementing Apocalyptic Netflix.

Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just curious.

Oh wow. Wow. Do you guys get that a lot? The wow factor? Because this is crazy. Amazingly, totally crazy.

Ummmmm hi. This is supposed to be an introduction and all I'm doing is standing around like a dummy saying wow. I'm Kara and I'm a new arrival. Obviously, I'm sure you all kind of got that by the "wow" thing. They told me that there's other people here with... powers and stuff? That sounds stupid, when I say it like that. Or not stupid, just weird. But anyway, I need to do some testing of mine because of the radiation and other science mumbo-jumbo that I didn't really understand and I could use a partner?

This sounds like a dating ad for Superheroes. ... IS there anything like that? Asking for a friend. Annnd now I'm going to end the most awkward first post of all time. Hi, again.

[Volunteers (Barry Allen, Hope Summers, Julie Power, Rachel Summers, Rumpelstiltskin), Amadeus Cho, Hank Pym, Sue Storm, and Jan Van Dyne]
I'd like to do test runs of the unstable molecules this week. I expect that we will do a few experiments of powers, non-powers, and anything else that might come up. With Mount Weather, you never really know what might come up.

I really appreciate all of your efforts on this. I know that it is a long shot, but maybe we can at least rig up something for temporary use.

Tonight, a treat. I'm making my abuela's Mexican chocolate cake, for dessert in the mess. Adjusted, ever so slightly, to accommodate the supplies here, naturally. But I have been impressed this far by how stocked the kitchens are, given the circumstances outside. I am sure that credit goes to the growers, gatherers, and hunters. May your journeys be fruitful.

I promise it will not stretch supplies, before anyone protests. Just enjoy.

LITO:
Litooooo.

I have a surprise for you.

It's possible we've had a breakthrough with the unstable molecule fabric. I'll need some volunteers to test what we've found, if anyone should be interested. I think we've isolated anything that might cause "minor explosions," which means you'll be relatively safe.

Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
And Immortality.

We slowly drove – He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility –

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –

Or rather – He passed Us –
The Dews drew quivering and Chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –

Since then – 'tis Centuries – and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses' Heads
Were toward Eternity –

Not quite the Eternity Emily or I had in mind.

You know what's fun, getting your desktop. What's even better is setting it up in your office and going through everything and out of all the games that are installed on your machine, you fall into the black hole of Civilization 5. Can't stop, won't stop.

[info]littlelunacy

Is there music at this bonfire? Will assassins be there? Basically I'm asking if anyone will try to pour gasoline on me again and try to kill me if I go tonight.

Thank you in advance.

It seems the Pod God has looked upon me favorably. I believe that is at least one interpretation for how my chess set appeared on this planet. My other working theory involves Romulans, black holes, and the space-time continuum. I don't know that either is truly workable.

Logic aside, should anyone be willing and able to master the three-dimensional aspect, I require an opponent.

[info]red_five

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say here other than I'm Luke Skywalker and the people in Medical said that some of my family was here?

[info]inthealley

I'm overdue in thanking those that were helpful to me during the transitional arrival period. It's still - frankly - bizarre to lack a secret identity, but I appreciate the part where none of you tried to arrest or kill me. So, thanks. We touched something real, guys. Never forget that.

I understand that there's some apprehension regarding our new trading rules with the Grounders. It's a given, of course, that they'll take advantage, or we'll take advantage, and something will go downright medieval in its implosion. Little's perfect. The good news is that we're well-protected and we have active, involved leadership to help us keep the problems contained and dealt-with on a case-by-case basis. If there's an issue, bring it up. We'll solve it together.

Because I'm going to know if you don't.

Shame we don't have The Police albums here, because this would be the perfect sign-off with "Every Breath You Take". Oh well. Cheers!

Yeah, so I'm pretty sure I didn't see a flock of Angry Birds hanging outside yesterday. I'm going to chalk that up to 1) epic trolling or 2) too much time in the lab. If it was a subtle hint, I'd introduce you to Crush the Castle but sadly... I left my internets in the last dimension. ㅠㅠ

Also, is now a good time to get into a discussion about Daylight Saving and how it's a complete waste and why we shouldn't do it? One of the best arguments being that a lot of people don't know what it is.
