I got to spend Christmas with Sarah this year, which is more than I expected to get when I first got here.

Sarah's basically my kid, for those of you who haven't figured it out yet. She got here last month. When I say "basically mine," I mean in every way that really counts. I've raised her for the last few years, up until I got here by myself. It's been good to see her again, although I really can't say I wished she'd come here. Not to say I didn't miss her every day, but I was okay thinking about her going to high school and parties on Saturday nights and being a normal kid, even if she wasn't here with me.

BEVERLY CRUSHER:
She knows. She asked me today, I couldn't lie.

As many of you know, I've been leading a class on midwifery since about June. On January 1, the first class will hit their six month mark, which is a remarkable achievement under the circumstances in which we're living. I'd like to congratulate them, and to urge them to continue with a difficult course of study. If Mount Weather is to thrive as a community, and to grow, then children are a necessity, and making sure that they have the absolute best start to life is Medical's gift to them.

With this in mind, I'm announcing a second class that will start on January 5. This group will run a little differently to the first class, however, given the existence of the Mount Weather Medical school, headed by Claire Temple. This class will enter into the nursing program, and will also have an hour seminar on Mondays and Wednesday on childbirth, pre-natal and ante-natal care, as well as women's health. The current class will continue as is with the schedule that has been laid out for them. If you're interested, please speak to me or Claire.

I have your test results, and I'd like for you to come see me tomorrow so that we can talk about how we're going to treat you from a non-magical point of view. We don't have access to a large amount of manufactured pharmaceuticals, but we do have natural remedies that will hopefully help, along with keeping a close eye on your sodium intake, as well as an exercise regimen. Your condition is very serious, but it's not dire, and you can live for many more years if you take care of yourself.

» I could find no cause of death. Audrey described symptoms of a stroke, but I couldn't find any indication of one.
» I'm terribly sorry.
» Be truthful: how are you and the other Donna's holding up?

First, allow me to tell you how proud I am of all of you, for the jobs that you've done lately with the werewolf situation, and with the odd illnesses and injuries that are a normal part of life here in Mount Weather. You are all exceptional beings.

But I would like to address a situation that may or may not be becoming a problem for us as medical workers. We are each expected to take on the burden of caring for everyone in this mountain, but I've discovered that all too often we neglect a significant portion of the population: ourselves. We take extra shifts, or stay longer, or take on extra patients, at the expense of our mental and physical well-being. While we may work like machines, we are not. We are living, breathing beings that need sleep and time off and, yes, sex. Don't neglect yourself. Take time to be with your partner, if you have one, to read a book, take a walk, visit the schoolrooms to see the children, or to just sleep. Keep an eye out for each other. If someone is showing signs of fatigue, stress, grief, or anything that may be affecting their quality of life, speak to them -- or approach me and I will speak with them. Don't do what I did, and bury yourself in your work out of some misguided idea that would take your grief away or make it easier to bear.

Starting tomorrow, each of us -- including myself -- is expected to adhere to the hours we're scheduled. Don't stay late to get just one more test result logged; the next person can handle that. Of course there will be times when we'll be needed to stay longer, all hands on deck, with only a brief break here and there for sleep or food. Now is not one of those times. Things are relatively peaceful, and we all need to take advantage of that.

In short: keep to your scheduled hours, find time to play and to sleep and to eat.

Secondly, after some discussion with Drs. Griffin and Jackson, we are implementing a new processing procedure for new arrivals. Upon awakening, after giving us their name and the names of people they know at home -- a loved one, friends, or otherwise, we will use the database that has been gathering information since we all arrived to ascertain if someone that they are familiar with is here. If there are, then we will inform the new arrival of that, and will also contact next-of-kin or a friend, so that they can help acclimate him or her to their new home. This procedure is to be implemented immediately. If you have any questions, ask.

I wonder if, down the line, you'd be willing to have a guest director for the Mount Weather Community Theater? I've directed many plays on the Enterprise, and I continued with it once my time on the ship ended. I'm not particularly good at directing musicals, but plays I'm quite good at.

Well, this is certainly interesting. Can't say I was expecting this.

Anyways, Jim Kirk here, at your service. Currently I'll be working as a scout since there doesn't seem to be much need for a starship captain here.

I'm sure it'll be a pleasure, folks.

Also, Spock, I guess I'm stuck with your snoring for the foreseeable future.

I would like one or both of you to find your way to medical as soon as possible. Cullen Rutherford brought his fiancée, Penelope Featherington, into medical a little while ago. She was overdosing on morphine, but she will be fine now. We're trying to figure out just how this happened, but there's nothing to indicate definitively that Cullen himself did this. There are no marks on Penelope's body to indicate that she was dosed via a syringe or otherwise ingested the morphine.

I would like a search of their quarters and assistance in further questioning of Commander Rutherford in order to discover just how she managed to ingest such a large quantity of morphine while the only person with access to her at the time was the commander.**

** (ooc: the search will reveal no foreign objects in their quarters, including no syringes, no old bottles filled with laudanum, nothing to indicate that Penelope was poisoned by an outside source.)

I would just like to let you know that we will be having an all-staff meeting on Monday morning at 8 a.m. It shouldn't last over half an hour. Everyone needs to be there.

As some of you may know, I've been here a little over six months. I've had my tricorder here the entire time, and it's been used fairly regularly. I've cut back on using it lately, though, because it hasn't been truly calibrated since a few days before I left the Enterprise, and the battery within it is starting to show signs of losing power. I feel like I should hesitate to do this, but either way, there will be no tricorder to work with, so. I would like to offer it to you, with the hopes that you will be able to both find an easy way to calibrate it, and a way to recharge its batteries so that it can remain as a useful tool here in medical. If you're unable to do this, my hope is that you'll be able to use the technology within to somehow build your own machines like this, or find a use for the parts within it elsewhere.

You may have heard the rumor mill, saying how many of the cursed individuals from last Saturday's fight have passed away from their injuries. It saddens me to tell you all that eight of the fourteen bite victims have passed away. The remaining six are remaining under close watch by the doctors and nurses and medical, and we're doing everything in our power to make sure that they are resting comfortably and as pain-free as we can allow them to be.

If you would like to visit any of these individuals, then you must be on a list, pre-approved by them. And even then, if they say no visitors, the only people who will see them are their care teams. As for their leaving medical for short amounts of time, we are deciding that on a case-by-case basis.
