NATE, VARRIC, CULLEN:
Everyone still alive? Relatively? I'm sober and awake, so if anyone wants food delivered or something, now is when you ask.

Alistair and I have some extremely surprising and extremely happy news. Ordinarily I'd want to tell everyone in person, but you know what a gossip mill this place is, and I don't want any of you finding out somewhere other than from us.

Alistair and I are going to have a baby. Late this summer, Christine thinks. As any of you who have any experience with Wardens know, the odds of this happening are very slim, so we're feeling like we just won a hundred sovereigns on a bluff.

And apparently drinking alcohol is not good for pregnant women, so I am now taking bids on my alcohol rations.

So, in between the drinking and the storytelling and the weird little everythings happening around here that's working its way into my memoirs (otherwise known as Shit is Still Crazy), I decided I could put some efforts into the next chapter of Hard in Hightown. I usually do these in nine parts, and if you haven't read the first eighteen chapters, sorry - I didn't manage to snag them before getting carted off into the wild blue whatever it is that pulled me here.

Still, I've seen weirder shit, so they might show up here at some point. Don't hold your breath or anything, but considering I've personally seen a chapter I didn't write yet in the Fade, anything's possible.

[attached] Hard in Hightown: Chapter 19

[ooc | below the cut is a link to the first 18 chapters (canon) if you're curious... there's also Chapter 19, which I've written myself in the same stylings. It's going to be rather cheesy detective stuff, I hope you enjoy it as I continue it.] )

Okay, I've been sitting on this for a couple of days because I suspected I might have just gone crazy, but the more I think about it the more I swear I wasn't seeing things. Please tell me someone else saw the creepy snowmen the other day.

[Chatty to Hawke]
I generally expect you to find some amazingly clever and roundabout way to show your anger with someone. I also generally expect to be involved in some way. I'm going to assume there's a lot of private chatter going on about this, since I don't see any open discussions on this tablet. And since none of it is being directed at me, it probably means I'm a suspect already.

Anyway, you want to talk about it with your oldest friend? I may have scraped up at least one drink ration I'm not using. If not, just remember I offered later.

I have news. One of the most-effective form of weapon enhancements in my home world is known as fire paper. When great friction is applied, this lightweight paper transforms to an extremely volatile, flammable substance that effectively coats ones preferred weapon in flames, adding additional damage and a measureless aspect of intimidation to one's fighting. Once the fire paper has exhausted its burning (usually after a minute or so at longest), the weapon is left free of any coating, as it has burned away in the process of immolation.

I should caution you that the high temperature of the flames act as a cauterizing agent in wounds: while you will undoubtedly cause people great pain (and, depending upon your skill, kill them), their deaths will be a result of your blows and not from bleeding out or infection. Some consequently see fire paper as a mercy in my world. As burns are among the most painful of wounds, I would not be so quick as to call it mercy. Additionally, weapons that have already been magically enhanced cannot use fire paper, so those of you who have enchanted weapons will have to go without.

I have been successful at recreating the formula from my home world, and have begun production of fire paper for our soldiers in the event of fighting. I would be remiss if I did not thank Dame Evie Frye, as she assisted me in testing early versions of the enhancement and aided me greatly when I nearly had my eyebrows singed off.

My next project will be to create bolt paper - same concept, only an electrical charge is added to a weapon rather than fire. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Since it has recently been a question, I thought it pertinent to make an announcement:

The Rose, our local Mount Weather tavern, is not for children. That said, we judge whether you're a child or not based more or less on how you look and how you behave. If you show up being fifteen and not looking eleven and ask politely for a drink and don't cause any trouble, I don't particularly care.

Regardless of your age, we will boot you out if you can't behave yourself - and please, please do not get any notion that because I'm small or because I'm an elf I'm not capable of ousting you - but as long as you appear to know how to conduct yourself, you'll be fine. And if you have questions on how to conduct yourself, feel free to ask. I've got a good barkeep's love of giving advice.

We're working on the heat, but it'll take a few days. Try to be nice to each other in the meantime. Takes a hell of a lot to heat a place this big, so when something blows, it blows.

I hate this time of yea Sorry to hear about the cold water. I'm sure everyone's doing what they can to make sure it's fixed in a prompt manner. Going without a shower for a day or two won't kill you; in fact most scientists agree that showering every day will irritate dry skin and cause your body to produce excessive amounts of sebum in the scalp, which results in oily hair and dandruff. You're much better off showering every three days or every other day, if you must, unless your work produces a lot of sweat.

But then again, I can't smell you anyway, so I don't really care.

[...] Shit. Somebody find that little pipsqueak running around the halls and bring him to me. I'm either gonna make him a Charger or wring his neck, if he's the reason why I'm missing my sending crystal.

Despite my initial misgivings I have volunteered myself to act as a voice of Thedas in what is called an "AMA", or "Ask Me Anything". Despite the nomenclature, do not ask me anything. I will only answer questions that I can answer truthfully or fairly. However, as I have had my hand in a wide variety of political maneuverings, religious ceremonies, and assorted adventures, I would hope that I possess the ability to respond to most queries with enthusiasm and accuracy.

My name is Cassandra Pentaghast. I was a Seeker back home for many years, eventually starting the Inquisition and becoming a high-ranking representative of the Chantry called 'the Divine'. I have not been fully honest regarding my position in the Chantry because I had reason to believe that this place was the result of magic or ill-intended illusion. Now, I am not so sure.

Thank you for your time.

Fair's fair, Seeker. You played a mean hand of Wicked Grace and this dwarf honors his losses. Just don't expect these too often, I've got better things to do than sit around writing this stuff. Since I don't expect to make any profit here, I'll just share it with anyone who might be interested while I'm at it.

If one were to want to go exploring around here, what's the best way to do that? I'd enjoy going outdoors if it's possible. I do know it's dangerous outside these walls, but what world doesn't have danger?

THEDAS:
In honor of Cullen and Iron Bull being back as they should, I propose we take over The Rose with some good old fashioned cutthroat Wicked Grace. Kallian and Alistair, that means you, too. Let someone else mind the bar.

SIMON:
So you can tell me what crawled up your ass and died or I can guess. Your choice.

I don't care if that child is normally your best friend, your sweetheart, your first mate, your mother, or what: a tavern is not a place for children. Babies who aren't aware enough to be picking up awful language from our regulars and aren't big enough to get underfoot, fine. Anyone who is currently between the ages of 2 and 15, however, needs to be elsewhere. No one loves children more than I do, and some of these are absolutely adorable, but taverns are for adults!

Pardon me for interrupting. A lady said I should ask here to find my family. My name is Cullen Rutherford, and I am lost. My father is Finn Rutherford, and my sisters are Mia and Rosalie, and my brother is Branson. I am not sure how I got here. My mother is sick, so I need to get home to help.

I swear on Maferath's hairy ass, I don't know how or why I keep ending up like this. One minute it's all jokes and drinks at the Hanged Man, the next it's waking up in some cold room with people pointing lights in your eyes and asking your name. Why do I keep ending up in the middle of the crazy shit? I've never said anything but positive things about Andraste's physical features.

No one tell the Seeker, but I could write a dozen books in half the time with something like this.

If anyone else on the lower levels felt the crash, a pod landed right on top of us. There's some damage, but no one dead and very minimal injuries. I encourage anyone who's up now to come up to the first level, if you're in the mood for some clean up.

Thedas & Erik Lehnsherr:
I've been downplaying it, but when the 31st comes around, there's a full moon. Now, I'm almost sure that nothing will happen, because I may not be human enough (human at all) for the werewolf curse to work, but I need to take precautions. If I do turn, I'll be bigger and more dangerous than the Grounder, and we all know it.

I spoke with Octavia about converting a room into a proper jail that doesn't let out near the hospital, but we haven't had the opportunity to work on it yet. Erik, I know you've already done me a favor, but if you could do me one more and fashion something of a cage for me, I would appreciate it. There's another room here that's a floor above the hospital where... well, where nothing good happens, but it hasn't been used for anything else. It's not a cheery place, but it's somewhere to put me just in case.

I'd like you all to watch me for the night. I trust that if the worst should happen, if I should somehow escape, you'll honor your loyalty to me to make sure that I don't make it far enough away to cause any more deaths.

(Also: hello, Varric, surprise!)

Military:
We need to talk about containment options for Erik Lehnsherr, in case his next display of power is more deliberate. I don't want to be paranoid, but I don't want to be caught with our pants down, either.

MY DWARF FELL OUT OF THE SKY. Believe nothing he says about me -- unless it's really, really interesting, then I guess I can forgive you.

If this means the Maker is taking requests, my next one is a pony.
