Monday: Remembering How to Get Along

Who: Jane and Sean
Where: some trees down by the beach
When: Midday

Jane was off work already. She'd gone in at five, and gotten off at noon, and she really didn't want to go home. Well, okay, didn't want to stay home. Her house didn't have air conditioning. So she'd stopped by, changed into cut-off shorts, picked up the little monster, and called her brother. One of the ones she could stand.

Now she was waiting down by the beach, in one of the few patches of shade she'd been able to find, with the little monster romping around in the sand and sun ahead of her, his little chicken-wings spread and all six legs pumping and tossing sand everywhere. He was almost cute. Well, "he". She didn't know whether it was male or female, but "it" was getting old, in her head.

Eventually. )

Sunday: Sibling Bonding

Who: Sorcha and Sean
Where: Sorcha's place
When: 11:45 a.m.

Sorcha was sitting out on the screened porch that overlooked the side yard of the house in which she lived, using her laptop to check over her bank balance and answer e-mail from her bosses, who wanted to know when they could expect her to return. Pondering that question was giving her a headache, because she didn't know. Strangely enough, the lack of any further precognitive dreams about Jane and the man who wanted to kill her was unnerving; at least she felt as if she might find some sort of clue on how to locate him, how to prevent her vision from coming true if she could dream. How could she go back to Florida not knowing? How long could she expect her job to be held? She should probably just quit and save herself the struggle of trying to figure it out, but that wasn't something she could do without having found a job here.

Even worse, it was stiflingly hot today. She had an oscillating fan that her landlady'd had in the basement set up, and it blew lukewarm air over her as she sat on the wicker couch. It wasn't too bad in here, but stepping outside didn't sound like a whole lot of fun.

Tuesday: Not a Puppy

Who: Sean and Jane
When: Afternoon
Where: Sean's apartment

Sean had called Jane earlier that day and invited her over to his apartment for lunch. He didn't have much in the way of groceries for he and Will, but he'd bought bread, deli meat and various cheap items to keep their stomachs full until he could con someone into going grocery shopping for him. Will wasn't around at the moment, which was okay with Sean. He didn't mind spending solo time with his siblings at all, inf act he preferred it. It was easier to get to know someone when you didn't have three or four people around to distract you.

He'd showered that morning, but forgot to shave again, and he covered his shaggy hair with his cap that was in desperate need of a wash. After smoking a cigarette, he washed his hands and pulled everything he felt they might need to make some sandwiches, if Jane was actually hungry when she arrived. If not? Well, he'd figure out someway to keep her from wanting to rush off.

What th' hell is THAT? )

Sunday: Seeking Normality

Who: Sean and Sorcha
When: Early Evening
Where: Eldritch Island

So far, Sean could honestly say he'd had a good day. Spending time with Jane had been nice, walking down on the beach and collecting... well, whatever the hell it was they were collecting. She reminded him still of the Jane he remembered when he was younger, although she was a bit more withdrawn now, which was to be expected. Not all of them could have escaped their childhood unscathed after their parents deaths. It seemed all of his siblings, so far, had some unfinished business to deal with. Which led Sean to Sorcha next. He was curious about her, about what Turlough and Jane had told him. She had visions, which intrigued Sean, although he knew better than to jump right in and start pushing her to discuss them with him. Right now, he just wanted to see his sister, to see how she'd grown up and what her life was like. He was hoping Will and the others would all get together soon, but Sean couldn't help but feel this was best for everyone to reunite on a one on one basis as not to overwhelm.

Once he crossed to Eldritch on the ferry, Sean pulled out the crumpled piece of paper from his worn jeans to check the name of the restaurant Sorcha had recommended they meet at during their brief phone call. He was hoping it wasn't any place fancy, because he really wasn't dressed for it. Thankfully, when he found the place, he noted it looked pretty casual, although he did take the cap off his head, more for politeness than anything. Stepping inside, he glanced around, looking for familiar red hair. If she wasn't there yet, he'd get a table, but that was the problem with not seeing your siblings for many years. You didn't know what to look for, although Sean was hoping he could lay eyes on her and just know, like he had with Jane.

just don't get McDonnell scary, and you won't have to worry about it )

Sunday: Sibling Banter

Who: Sean and Jane
Where: The phone, a deli, then the beach!
When: Afternoon

It had been a pretty insane night, with the weather outside leaving Sean awake and restless for much of it. The winds had been rough, and he'd spent most of the night watching the rain and hail from the small window in his apartment. Finally he managed to get some sleep, though his dreams were unnerving and kept him tossing and turning until he pried his eyes open to see it was nearly ten am. He wasn't sure what Will was up to, but Sean himself knew he couldn't just hang out inside, despite the shitty weather. He'd showered and dressed, thought about shaving but ultimately decided it'd take too long. He ventured out for coffee soon after, and began to walk around Darkwater to assess damage, ignoring the trickle of rain that continued to fall on him. Eventually around lunch time, after having walked for several miles, Sean made an impulsive decision and called Jane's number. He just thought maybe seeing Sorcha and Jane separately would be better for his own sanity. Turlough mentioned them all getting together, and that was still a great idea, but this was slightly less overwhelming for Sean.

He let the phone ring and waited to hear her voice.

As long as nothing got too serious, she'd be fine. )

Friday - Beer and Pool

Who: Turlough and Sean
When: Evening
Where: A bar!

Sean had called Turlough earlier in the evening, inviting him out for a drink, and possibly a game of pool. He remembered the place he'd first spotted Turlough in. His younger brother had been playing pool and ordering a pitcher of beer. The bartender hadn't even carded Tur, who was too young by American's standards to be drinking, so Sean was going into it assuming that Turlough would get along with a few drinks. And if they suddenly decided to be diligent on the carding, Sean would just sneak his brother a few pints himself.

He got there before Turlough did, finishing up a cigarette and ordering a pitcher for the both of them when Turlough finally did show up. Sean claimed the pool table, working on racking up the pool balls while he waited. He still felt a bit off, and a lot concerned, but talking to Will and then Joel had helped. He had Jane and Sorcha on his list next. He'd gone too long procrastinating in seeing them. It wasn't that he didn't want to see his sisters, but Sean knew laying eyes on them would be different than seeing his brothers. His sisters were young, and he'd always felt overly protective of them when they'd been kids. All of that would no doubt coming rushing back to him, and he feared, above everything else, being rejected by one, or both of them for it.

Tur circled the pool table, nodded to the bar tender who upnodded back and gave Sean the slightest smile. "Evenin'" he said casually over the music. He was dressed in loose fitting dark jeans, garrison boots and a short sleeved black button up. Clearly it was a Johnny Cash kind of evening. Even his dirty blonde hair and three days of beard growth looked dark in the ill-lit bar. The shadows even made his age indistinct. He looked even more like their father in this place. It must be why the bartender didn't bother to card him.

Thursday: Coffee between Brothers

Who: Sean and Joel
When: early afternoon
Where: coffee shop

Joel had taken a day to sleep. He'd turned his phone on silent, left it int he dingy kitchen, and spent the majority of Wednesday in bed, deep in exhaustion. It had been largely dreamless, thankfully, and every time he'd woken up to piss or change positions, he'd made the conscious decision to fall back into sleep. It was what he needed, to reset and absorb everything that had happened over the first part of the week.

You realize that eventually, there's gonna be a place for th' whole story. )

Tuesday: So Much to Say

Who: Sean and Will
When: late morning
Where: Portland airport, then the drive to Darkwater

Will couldn't remember a thirteen hour stretch in his life that had seemed longer than what he'd just experienced. He'd never flown before and at first the experience had been interesting, but by the second hour he'd become restless and wished he'd had an aisle seat instead of one next to the window.

It was strange being grounded again, but a welcome feeling as he shouldered his carry on bag and headed on through the many ridiculous screenings. It took another half an hour before Will was finally through customs and ready to get his luggage and see his brother. He scanned the small crowd of people waiting near the large luggage carousels for family and friends from his flight and others.

Monday - Another Brother

Who: Turlough, Sean, and Joel
When: late morning
Where: Some greasy spoon and then out somewhere

The morning? Had not gone well. Oh it had started out fine enough, with the waking up and nudging his long-lost little brother awake from the floor. But Joel had noticed that something was pretty damn wrong as he fired up the coffee maker. Everything felt too ... bright. Bright and hyper-real, like when he was working and had himself really focused. It was an unpleasant contrast to his usual comfy morning-fuzz. It wasn't terribly long before he was already developing a headache. It wasn't even as though they'd drank that much the night before, he didn't get it.

Then, Tur had broken a coffee mug, seemingly only by touching it. Joel had just seen the blood start to drip down his arm when suddenly his palm hurt like a bitch, and oh look, it was bleeding. It had incited a confused, half-asleep argument that hadn't done much for Joel's headache. The coffee had barely started to drip when smoke began pouring out of the lid -- who the fuck had even known coffee pots had parts that could smoke?! -- and that endeavor had to be abandoned.

Confused, sour, and both needing caffeine something awful, the two brothers had left the shabby house, intent on coffee someone else would make and cigarettes. Joel adjusted the bandage he'd wrapped around his hand, eyebrows drawn together in a pissy expression. "I just fuckin' bought that, too," he muttered as they hit the sidewalk.

Saturday: Everything's Changing

Who: Sean and Will
When: Buttcrack of dawn in Ireland
Where The phone

Once Sean left the pub - bar - he pulled out his cell phone and started a brisk walk back to the tiny building that housed his apartment. He thumbed his way through the short list of his electronic address book until he came upon William's name. It would increase his cell phone bill by quite a substantial amount, but this wasn't something he could just email, besides, Sean didn't own a computer yet. Well aware that it would be early overseas in Ireland, Sean also knew that his brother would probably be awake. That's what happened when you owned a farm. The sunrise was more or less your alarm clock, if you weren't awake by then anyway.

Punching the number, Sean held the phone up to his ear, waiting for the delayed ringing to begin. His heart was still racing, and he just hoped to God he knew how to get through this conversation without cracking.

I thought if I called you, you'd tell me what to do. )

Saturday - A Long Ago Face

Who: Sean and Turlough
When: Late, last call
Where: A bar in Darkwater

Sean had kept his word to the guy he'd met in the coffee shop and stopped by Vapor earlier that night. It had taken him far too long to get inside, and when he had, the music had been loud and the club crowded. Sean didn't mind the atmosphere, it just hadn't really been his scene. He'd had a pint and then taken off, hoping to find a smaller, quieter bar to have a drink in.

Once he'd walked through Darkwater for a good twenty minutes, he finally found a decent looking hole in the wall place that didn't look overly busy. Everyone, Sean supposed, was at the Vapor opening. Walking inside, Sean walked immediately to the bar and found a seat at the very end before ordering a whiskey. He kept his cap on and felt himself hunched over a bit. It was his 'please don't bother me' posture, and he could only hope people would notice and leave him be for a bit.

Turlough was out as well. His roomie had headed off to the opening of the new night club in town and he'd been torn about accompanying her. After all, she was a nice girl and gentlemen didn't let nice girls like her come and go in places like that without at least the offer of accompaniment. Then again, she was a big girl and a local. Not to mention he thought she'd be working a little bit. He knew the offer was more than on the table but in the end, Tur had wished her well, insisted she call him if she ran into trouble and waved her out the door.

Friday: Former New Yorkers

Who: Sean and Santiago
When: Morning
Where: Coffee place

When Sean woke in the tiny one bedroom apartment he'd acquired, the first thing he remembered was that he didn't have a coffee machine. He loathed actually having to go buy coffee. Spending four dollars on one cup when he could buy an entire canister of coffee grounds for that much was insane, especially to a man who tried not to spend too frivolously anyway. But Sean knew he needed his coffee in the morning to function, so he reluctantly threw on a pair of faded jeans, a white t-shirt and his hat before grabbing his wallet and shoes to head out into Darkwater. He hadn't been in town longer than a day, so he hadn't been able to look around beyond what he'd seen when searching for a place to rent. Rather than driving, he started walking, hoping to find some kind of coffee shop. They had a Starbucks every fifty feet or so in New York City it seemed, so surely they'd have something here.

It took him a few blocks, but he found what appeared to be a small coffee shop on the corner of one of the streets. Stepping in, he could smell the coffee and all of the sudden, four bucks didn't seem to be too steep a price to get a cup.
