Monday: A Perfect Afternoon

Who: Cordelia and Ashley
When: 2pm!
Where: shopping for shoes!

After lunch with Corwin, Cordelia dropped him back off at his computer repair shop before driving to Ashley's for their planned shoe-shopping date. Cordelia was trying to psych herself up for it. She did need a pair of new shoes, but her footwear admiration didn't really meet Ashley's fetish status. But that was okay. That was what Cordelia loved about Ashley. She always put 110% into everything she enjoyed. Passionate, was what most people would call it. Or crazy.

Pulling up in front of Ashley's place, Cordelia laid on the horn twice for her friend to hear.

Monday: Tensions

Who: Cian and Liam
Where: Liam's place
When: early evening

Cian found himself at loose ends on Monday evening, and that was never a good thing. He'd talked to Ava earlier in the day, but he didn't know where she was at now, and he couldn't think of any of the usual school crowd that he felt like hanging with. So after a hasty dinner with his parents, who spent it giving him warnings about their upcoming trip-- said warnings consisting of a long list of don'ts that Cian didn't plan to heed anyway. He was like a cat; he listened and then went and did what he wanted-- he hopped into his car and drove to the ferry landing for the half hour trip over to Darkwater. He walked onto the ferry, knowing that he could easily walk to Liam's place from there.

He didn't bother to call to see if the guy was home. He wasn't keen on the dark. Where else would he be? Liam hadn't really discussed this phobia with Cian, but after four years of friendship, it was abundantly clear. Not that Cian would rag him about it, shit no. That wouldn't be cool. He enjoyed the ride over with the stiff ocean breeze blowing his hair into unruly spikes, and once he got ashore in Darkwater, he jogged over to Liam's and pounded on the door to be let in.

she'd laugh at me and mock me for all eternity if I tried to get with her )

Monday: I'm Not Macking on You

Who: Ava and Liam
When: Afternoon
Where: Juicy Java/The beach

Assuming Cian would probably still be sleeping, even in the afternoon, Ava went off by herself after lunch and took the ferry to Darkwater. She was in the need of a new journal and she didn't feel like walking around the island to shop, so the mainland it was. She had already called Jenny the night before, who promised to cover for her with their parents so Ava could try to sneak into Vapor with Cian. For twenty bucks, of course. But if Ava and Cian pulled it off and got into the place? It would be the best twenty bucks she ever gave away!

Stopping in Juicy Java for a drink after quite a bit of window shopping, Ava Walked up to the counter, chewing on her lip as she stared at the menu. She knew it more or less by heart, since she came in whenever she took the ferry over, but one never knew if they would have added something new.

Monday: Quiet Interrupted

Who: Christian and Jonathan
Where: Eldritch Cemetery
When: Late afternoon

After a day spent mostly working, Christian felt raw. He hadn't been subjected to any power outages or any visions of death and destruction, but he had been at the mercy of what felt like a hundred people's thoughts three times that day-- each time when there were at least five people in the shop, all of them close enough to hear every little thing they thought and felt, no matter how trivial. Even knowing that what he'd heard had been real, not hallucination-- well, mostly knowing; his brain knew, but there was always that edge of fear that it was hallucination-- didn't make it any easier to bear.

So he went to one of the few places, right after work, that he was sure would be deserted. At almost five in the afternoon, on a day that threatened to drop sheets of rain at any moment, surely the cemetery would be empty, right? He chained his bicycle up against the gate and slipped inside, wandering into the tiny maze of trees and tombstones. The dead were done thinking, so at least here he hoped he'd have a little peace before he went home.

Monday - Hiya, Roomie

Who: Turlough and Eden
Where: Her place
When: Early Monday evening

Nothing about Darkwater reminded Turlough of home. There was a storm coming but he didn't own an umbrella. He had to just hope the rain would hold off and he could make it to this appointment without appearing like a drowned rat. He'd combed his hair back from his face and actually reintroduced his jawline to a razor for the first time in more than a month. He might be young but he could produce a respectable scruff when the appropriate amount of apathy was applied.

he just had to be cute )

Monday: Picking Up Over Dinner

Who: Allie and Noah
When: Monday evening
Where: Peterman's Seafood, near Sandpiper's Cove.

Allie didn't exactly regret her choice to come to Darkwater. It was just that she regretted she couldn't have ended up with a different teaching doctor as her supervisor. As it was, she felt run through a wringer and had actually groaned when she climbed onto her bike. It still seemed as though the sky would open up at any time or blow her right off the boardwalk and into the ocean but it held off long enough for her to pedal her tired butt home.

She'd passed Peterman's Seafood on her way to and from work and shopping but had yet to venture in there. It was on the northern curve of Sandpiper Cove and not too far from her beachfront home. Since staring into her fridge had yielded no interest, Allie decided to seek wine and company elsewhere.

Monday: A Cozy Little Interview

Who: Santiago and Eden
When: Late morning
Where: Vapor

Eden was pleased with herself having scored an interview with the new owner of Vapor. She was hoping to catch little snippets of what was going on inside the building and the best way of doing that was to have the interview at the club. So that's where she was, a few minutes early for the meeting with the man. She'd been instructed to just come on inside, so when she reached the building, she did as she was told. Dressed to impress in a skirt and matching jacket, black because it was slimming, and a frill white blouse beneath it, Eden was ready to wow this guy. The better a person is at conversation with an interviewee, the better the interview itself would go. Glancing around the room she'd just entered, she took everything in and waited for Santiago.

Catered with special coffee.... )

Time Update -- June 7 - June 10, 2009

Sunday, June 7th

  • The first day of the solstice cycle dawns clear and unseasonably warm. By 10 a.m., the sun is white-hot overhead and the temperature has already reached 80 degrees; by noon, a high of 84 will have been reached. It is also windy, as if a storm might be brewing, and on both the island and the mainland there are concerns about potential downed trees and powerlines by the time late afternoon arrives. After the sun goes down, the temperature will begin to decrease, reaching a low of 58 by midnight.

  • Tonight is the full moon beginning at approximately 6:12.

  • Beginning at 8:30 p.m., half of Darkwater loses power due to sustained damage from the high winds. The ferry station, the marina, the shopping and business district, Juicy Java and a large residential area are all affected. The electricity will not return until the wee hours.

Monday, June 8th

  • The skies are grey and ominous today, and the high temperature will only reach 65... a drastic change from yesterday. The wind has decreased, although there's brush and debris that need to be cleaned up in any areas that contain large trees. Cold Harbor Road and Foggy Branch Road are both partially blocked as they loop up into the hills. Rain is forecast, but none actually falls from the sky. The low for today will be 50 once darkness falls.

  • It's the first day of summer school at Darkwater Consolidated for those unfortunate souls who didn't pass the year or have to make up courses.

Tuesday, June 9th

  • The rain that everyone has been anticipating begins at about 5 a.m. It seems to be an isolated event; several miles up the coast, skies are partly cloudy and there is no precipitation at all. In the Darkwater/Eldritch Island area, however, it will pour steadily all day long with accompanying thunder and lightning. The high for today will reach 60 degrees, and the low will be 51.

  • A female driver in a gold Kia boards the Eldritch Island ferry for the trip to the mainland at 7 p.m. Nobody reports a disturbance, but once the ferry has reached the Darkwater station, the gold Kia is empty. Ferry employees check the restroom and anywhere else the woman could potentially be, but she is nowhere to be found. The vehicle is driven into the Darkwater ferry lot and parked, and the police are notified. The story of the strange disappearance will make the next morning's newspaper.

Wednesday, June 10th

  • The rain stops during the night, and Wednesday dawns partly cloudy with hints of sun that increase as the day wears on. Temperatures reach a high of 68 and it's moderately windy, though not nearly as much so as it was on Sunday. The sky is mostly clear by sunset, and the low temperature will be 57 degrees just before midnight.

  • The top story in the newspaper and on the local news stations is the disappearance of Claudia Ross, 28, of Eldritch Island from the ferry the previous day. There is much speculation about what might have happened to her, but there are no leads to be found as of yet. Another reported story is the grand reopening of Vapor, which was purchased by Santiago Asensio Baquero at the beginning of May and closed for remodeling three weeks ago. The club will open its doors once more on Saturday night at 6 p.m.

  • Tonight there will be an open-air party at Sandpiper Marina in Darkwater. The local band Jezebel will perform in the open space between the marina's pub and restaurant, and vendors will offer burgers, hot dogs and ice cream for a fixed price of five dollars. The party is all-ages; however, as usual no one under 21 is allowed to enter the pub.
