Friday - Beer and Pool

Who: Turlough and Sean
When: Evening
Where: A bar!

Sean had called Turlough earlier in the evening, inviting him out for a drink, and possibly a game of pool. He remembered the place he'd first spotted Turlough in. His younger brother had been playing pool and ordering a pitcher of beer. The bartender hadn't even carded Tur, who was too young by American's standards to be drinking, so Sean was going into it assuming that Turlough would get along with a few drinks. And if they suddenly decided to be diligent on the carding, Sean would just sneak his brother a few pints himself.

He got there before Turlough did, finishing up a cigarette and ordering a pitcher for the both of them when Turlough finally did show up. Sean claimed the pool table, working on racking up the pool balls while he waited. He still felt a bit off, and a lot concerned, but talking to Will and then Joel had helped. He had Jane and Sorcha on his list next. He'd gone too long procrastinating in seeing them. It wasn't that he didn't want to see his sisters, but Sean knew laying eyes on them would be different than seeing his brothers. His sisters were young, and he'd always felt overly protective of them when they'd been kids. All of that would no doubt coming rushing back to him, and he feared, above everything else, being rejected by one, or both of them for it.

Tur circled the pool table, nodded to the bar tender who upnodded back and gave Sean the slightest smile. "Evenin'" he said casually over the music. He was dressed in loose fitting dark jeans, garrison boots and a short sleeved black button up. Clearly it was a Johnny Cash kind of evening. Even his dirty blonde hair and three days of beard growth looked dark in the ill-lit bar. The shadows even made his age indistinct. He looked even more like their father in this place. It must be why the bartender didn't bother to card him.

Friday: Shifter Interview

Who: Hannah and Jessalyn
Where: Jessalyn's workplace
When: Early evening

Headquarters had gotten back to Hannah pretty quickly late that afternoon with a couple names, and the promise or one or two more given a couple days of investigation. Unfortunately, all the names they gave her were all on the mainland. So she bucked it up and took the ferry, though she had every intention of leaving some clothes somewhere on the mainland, so she could fly it in the future.

But for now, she'd found the workplace of a shifter named Jessalyn Lainey-- she hadn't been at her house, so here was her only other option. Headquarters had only given her those two addresses. She came in the little restaurant and looked around, not sure what the girl would look like. The hostess seated her, and she asked after this Jessalyn person.

Is this because of the naked bit at the marina? )

Friday: Religious Tourism

Who: Mikael & Tayne
When: Late afternoon
Where: The Church on Eldritch Island

Mik had been drifting around the island for a few hours before he found the church. He was doing the 'tourist thing'. The part where you've lived somewhere, more or less, for a year, dragging your ass into work every day and seeing the sights at a distance from the bus - when his bike as in the shop, like now - or too busy driving to notice them. Then you have time off and you think, 'Why don't I go there and see that, finally?'

Today had led him to the ferry and Eldritch Island. He'd spent a lot of time contemplating the water and the shops and stopping for a beer. Now he walked toward the cross, wondering what faith lived in this particular structure and would it be open to the public on a Friday afternoon? Maybe in the smaller towns, the House of God never closed or maybe, because it was potentially more vulnerable, that's why it did close. It was warm, but he was wearing jeans and his cowboy boots, a T-shirt and his black leather jacket. And the matching gloves, of course.

The last thing he wanted to do was accidentally touch something potent while being far away from his apartment.

Being disturbed by folk is what I'm here for. )

Friday - A Little Detour

Who: Sam and Solana
Where: Streets on Eldritch
When: Late evening
Warning: NSFW

Sam's shift at the gas station ended up being a lot longer than he'd anticipated. One of the other clerks had called off sick, and since Sam didn't really have any other major plans, he'd volunteered to stick around until the third shift employee showed up. It was close to midnight before he clocked out, and once he stepped foot outdoors, he lit up a cigarette and started off toward home. He hadn't driven to work that day, since his house was only a few miles away and the weather had been somewhat decent.

Now he was sort of regretting not taking his car. Not because he was scared, or anything, but he was tired and just wanted to collapse into bed and sleep until well into the next afternoon if he could. That was certainly delayed by adding at least a twenty minute walk onto his evening. One hand was tucked loosely into his jean pocket, the other holding his cigarette. He kept his eyes ahead of him, occasionally glancing around his surroundings. He wasn't really freaked or anything, but after talking to Hannah about the solstice, he was wondering if something was going to go down. Plus, you know, escaped insane inmates was probably a good reason to be aware of the people around you, if there were any. Damn, he should have just driven his car.

Solana had spent the day locked up in her motel room, hiding as much as she could from the sun and the heat. It had made her a little miserable and shaky. But then the bastardous day-star had gone away, and it was time to go out. The night with the odd and mysterious non-human Santiago had been satisfying, so she didn't really need to feed, but ... the wind was calling her outside. Solana donned a long flowing patchwork skirt that had tiny, randomly-placed bells on it, a pair of sandals, and a white t-shirt that was rather too small for her chest. She donned many necklaces and bracelets. She felt pretty today, for some reason, and she wanted to look it. She took the ferry over to the island, wanting to maybe walk around the lighthouse again, or the church. Just to see.

It's so lovely out, don't you think? )

Friday: My Friends Are Your Friends?

Who: Corwin, Sen, Art, Maria (NPC)
Where: Peterman's Seafood
When: Early evening

Corwin pulled the van up to the take-out parking spots, shutting off the engine and sitting back in the driver's seat. "You two wanna come in with me?" he offered. He'd already called in their order, so it'd just be picking it up and chatting briefly with whoever was at the take-out counter-- or, well, with Maria, once he'd asked after her.

"I've got a friend working in here now," Corwin added, whether as incentive or just reason for offering, "and I can introduce you all around...." Or, well, sort of a friend. He'd only met Maria once, but he'd liked her well enough, and she seemed so lonely. Art and Sen did such a great job keeping him from being lonely, he wanted to at least make the effort with poor Maria.

There he is... your heart's dream. )

Friday - Surrounded by Water

Who: Thomas and Sofia
When: evening
Where: near the shore

It was a beautiful day, and after a long stint running the spa, Sofia needed to be out in it for a little while. She'd called Shoel to make sure the girl had a ride home, and then she'd set off to walk down toward the water. She always carried a pair of sneakers in her bag just for these types of occasions. Closing her eyes and sighing into the wind, she began to feel more unwound within minutes of walking away from the spa. It was nice, just to have some quiet alone time. Sofia wandered to the docks where the ferry was, and found a nice deserted spot at the railing. Instead of taking a bench like some folks had, she sat on the edge of the dock and let her legs dangle down, tugging her skirt up a bit to feel the breeze on her legs. Ah, that was so much better.

The morning had included an unexpected encounter with a pretty Metal elemental and it had set a positive mood for his day. So had their conversation a few hours before, with promises for Sunday, and he'd felt inspired to create.

He took the ferry - which was novel and amusing for the Son of Water - to the island, where he had yet to set foot. He looked forward to exploring it and could, of course, check and see if there were any potential properties for sale there, too. He wasn't sure about being on an island this small, as he wouldn't necessarily be able to hide as well as he could on the mainland and there could be issues in the future regarding supplies and so on.

Still, it was worth a look.

Friday: An Actual Date

Who: Cian and Ava
Where: the movies, then Ava's house
When: evening

Cian had always liked going to the movies quite a lot, and he still liked it... but tonight had several subtle differences from when he and Ava usually went. For one thing, he'd picked her up at her house, and at least half the time she drove or walked over to meet him. For another, he'd dressed a little differently than he usually did: instead of running shorts and a t-shirt so faded the print was nearly illegible, he'd put on actual khaki shorts with a button and zipper and a short-sleeved red polo shirt. Definitely more of a summer date sort of outfit; it was exactly what he would have worn for a date date. Which this was. Once at the movies, he didn't get popcorn, because he couldn't stop thinking about getting a million hulls caught in his teeth. Instead he'd opted for a carton of those little chocolate-coated ice cream bites-- they were called 'Dibs' or some damn thing like that-- and an enormous soda. It would make him have to pee a thousand times tonight, but what the hell, right?

Now that they were in the movies, he couldn't have really said what was going on onscreen. It wasn't that he wasn't watching the movie, but he kept getting distracted. About ten or fifteen minutes in, he'd casually taken hold of Ava's hand, just like they sat in the movies holding hands all the time. Occasionally, he leaned over to whisper something in her ear or to offer her an ice cream bite, and whenever the bare skin of his forearm shifted against hers, he got goosebumps. They were on a date. He still couldn't quite get over that, but it definitely felt different from the millions of times they'd gone to the movies before now.

Oh em gee! Do you think somebody's going to start an 'I Hate Ava' page on Facebook 'cause you're dating me? )

Friday - A Great Start

Who: Emmanuel and Mac
Where: On a date =D
When: Seven and onwards

When Emmanuel pulled up in front of Mac's house, dressed in the "finery" Jordan had bought for him, he was trying not to be nervous. Mac liked him, he liked her, and they already had hung out a lot over the past couple months, so he knew things wouldn't change now just because they'd kissed. He knew it. But he was still a bit nervous, especially since now he was second-guessing the potted roses he'd bought. It seemed like overkill, but he didn't like giving girls flowers that would die in a few days... it just seemed wrong.

He took a steadying breath and climbed out of the car, bringing the plant with him, and headed up the walk to knock. He just hoped her mother didn't open the door again, this time. It'd be hard to explain the roses in a pot rather than wrapped in plastic or a ribbon, or something.

Mac had been bouncy all evening as she got ready. She'd had dates before, of course, but she didn't think she'd had one in a long time she was so excited about. She'd spent forever getting ready, like girls did, and had even sat on the floor for an hour or two under her mother's skilled fingers. In lieu of one of the scarves she was fond of wearing, she now had rows of braids on the top of her head, reaching about two inches back before her afro took over again. She'd put on a flowy skirt and a cute top, just the right amount of jewelry and perfume, and just a touch of lip gloss. She assessed herself in the mirror just before her mom came to her bedroom door, and called it good.

One less hand on the wheel wouldn't kill them. )

Friday: Guilty Pleasures

Who: Noah and Cordelia
When: Evening
Where: Seaside, then the pier

Cordelia was more or less ready for her outing with Noah by the time seven o'clock rolled around. She wasn't someone who spent a lot of time tearing up her wardrobe to find something cute to wear, nor did she stand in front of the bathroom mirror and meticulously put on her make up and do her hair. She hadn't been lying to Noah when she told him she was a low-maintenance kind of person. She pulled on the first 'pretty' thing she saw in her closet, a blue and green maxi summer dress, found some sandals to match and then tied her hair up into a high ponytail. Her makeup consisted of lip gloss and some mascara and that was about it. If she had Ashley's sense of style, she was sure she would probably come across as a lot more alluring and sexy, but sadly, that was Ashley's domain.

When she heard the doorbell, Cordy grabbed her bag from the kitchen chair and went to answer it. She had no idea what they would be doing, but she was hoping it wasn't anything fancy. So far Noah seemed pretty laid back, so she was expecting something to mirror that.

Noah's dressing up involved wearing dark jeans as opposed to the faded ones with holes in them and putting actual shoes on his feet instead of flip flops. He'd put a blue and white striped polo shirt on top of the jeans, washed his slightly stubbled face and called it good. He could do fancy, but as a general rule he wasn't much into it, and he tended to prefer people who weren't, either. He'd managed to get over to Cordy's place right on time-- which was good, since being late would tend to make a bad impression-- and he enjoyed the evening breeze as he waited for her to open the door. "Hey," he said with a smile once she appeared. He didn't find anything lacking in her outfit; the colors of the dress she wore made her hair look extra-vivid, and it skimmed her body nicely. "Ever been to Seaside?" he asked, naming the little oceanfront cafe that was a local favorite. "I thought we might wander over there. Hope you don't mind walkin', since I don't actually have a car." It was only a few blocks.

I brought you out here, so it's my responsibility to keep you warm )

Friday - Fast-Food Lunch

Who: Corwin and Sen
Where: The local Jack in the Box
When: Midday

Since Art didn't need to eat, Corwin left him in charge for the hour it took for him and Sen to go out to grab some food and to chat a while. He hadn't really talked to her since Monday and the explosion with Jake, and since he'd had time to chat with Art, he felt like he needed to keep up with her, too. He loved them both dearly, but he did try very hard to keep the time he spent with each equal, when they weren't all three together. He never, ever wanted one to wind up feeling left out, or jealous of the other.

Besides, well, Art didn't have to eat, and he and Sen were both starving by lunchtime. They walked, since it wasn't far, and Corwin tried to spare the van golem-weight when he could.

Srs discussions ensue )

Friday: What's a Defrag?

Who: Noah and Corwin
Where: Darkwater Computers
When: 10:30 a.m.

Noah had foregone a morning run in order to get his computer looked at, as he'd been planning to do since before he'd met Corwin on the beach the previous Saturday. Consequently, he was still feeling sluggish even though he'd had half of a 20 ounce bottle of Mountain Dew he'd found in the refrigerator on his boat. The caffeine apparently hadn't kicked in yet. He walked out of the marina grounds and headed toward the shopping strip, dressed in a t-shirt, running shorts and flip-flops, carrying his laptop wrapped in a thin leopard-print computer case. So sue him, he found that amusing. Panther... leopard skin... Yeah. Sometimes it didn't take a lot to entertain him.

He took his time walking to Darkwater Computers, and by the time he got there, he felt more awake. At least he'd stopped yawning, which was always a plus. He pushed open the door and headed inside, laptop still held beneath one arm in its handleless case.

I guess that means you haven't done one. )

Friday: Family Dinner Night

Who: Santiago, Torin, Taryn and Antony and Jerrilyn Spencer (NPCs)
Where: the Spencer home
When: early evening

The occasion of Santiago Ascencio Baquero's visit was the first time the Spencers had used their elegant dining room since Christmas Eve, when Jerrilyn and Antony traditionally invited all of their extended family to the house for a holiday party that always lasted well into the night. They'd been out of the country, of course, and had only been back a few days, but ordinarily, the room would not have been used again until Thanksgiving. This, however, was an event, and the five of them (Trevor had gone out of town with some friends of his, so he was not present) had dined in the midst of candles, fresh flowers and soft music-- Spanish guitar instrumentals, mostly-- in the background.

Once they became aware of exactly who Santiago was, Jerri Spencer was pleased that she'd spared no expense and trouble for this dinner. She'd even hired uniformed waitstaff to serve them, and of course the food and wine were top-notch. It was a meal full of gentil conversation and much shared history, and while ordinarily young adults might have been bored with such a gathering, in this case Taryn and Torin were not. How often did one get to spend time with the father of their race? None of them could possibly be blase about that.

Dessert was served on the roofed patio, lit by twinkling lights wound around the posts and a chimania at the edge of the grouping of cushioned outdoor furniture, and the conversation had continued unabated until Antony received a call that he needed to take, and he excused himself as gracefully as possible. It was a successful evening without doubt, and Jerri was pleased and relieved by that. "I'll be back in a few," she said, rising from her seat with a smile. "I think we could all use some more wine." They'd all been drinking it, even Taryn who at nineteen wasn't quite old enough. The Spencers tended to have more European sensibilities about that sort of thing, though. Jerri vanished into the house, and the three were left alone in the pleasant evening air.

Friday: Voice Mail of Vision-ness and Ramble

Who: Christian, for Sorcha
Where: On voicemail!
When: Late afternoon

Sorcha? This is Christian. From the lighthouse this morning. I had another vision today! This one was not of the lighthouse, but it was similar in every other way. This time it was of one of the abandoned houses outside town, in the trees a ways. And there were dead people coming through the walls. It was really rather terrifying. Gwen thinks it is because of my medication, but we found one of the other places I saw in a vision today, too, so I think it is just as real as the lighthouse visions.

I do not know if this will help you, or us, or anything at all. But I did wish for you to know. Perhaps soon we can talk about it together?

Now I will stop annoying you. Auf wiedersehen, Sorcha.

Friday: Not Much of a Tour

Who: Sam and Hannah
When: Morning
Where: Around town

Since they had been unable to go out Wednesday, Sam and Hannah had rescheduled their 'tour of Darkwater' for that morning. Sam wasn't entirely sure it was necessary, since Hannah had been there for awhile now, right? So he was guessing she had probably seen quite a bit of the island and everything else for all he knew. But still, it gave him an excuse to get out of the house, since he didn't have to work until later that night. He sat on his porch, smoking a cigarette and waiting for Hannah's big ass Bronco to make it's appearance.

It gave Hannah an excuse to get out of the apartment and away from the lighthouse, too, which was her main goal right now. She still had two days until the big one, if anything at all even happened then, and she was dying of boredom. Besides, Sam was the closest thing she had to a friend, and she was going stir-crazy stuck in that apartment for two days after all that rain.

But today it was dry, even nice, and she was determined to make the most of it. She pulled up at Sam's address and honked, because that was just how she rolled.

But some important info, which is even better. )

Friday: Lighthouse Dreams

Who: Sorcha and Christian
When: mid-morning
Where: the lighthouse

It was about a quarter of a mile walk from the paved road where Sorcha had left her car to the lighthouse, and as she got farther from civilization, she began to feel mildly uneasy. There was no real reason for it, she knew. Sorcha McDonnell was not a woman who was afraid of her own shadow or much of anything, really. The only thing she feared right now was harm coming to her newly-found family, and this morning, none of them were here. Possibly it was only because she'd seen the lighthouse in dreams so many times, or because it was so wild and overgrown back here, before one reached the rocky shore and the endlessly susurrating ocean. That could be all it was.

She strode along, her long red hair restrained in a no-fuss ponytail, her face un-made up, wearing faded jeans, battered boots and a loose denim workshirt that covered the pistol tucked into her waistband. It was utterly silent out here except for the occasional cries of the seabirds that wheeled overhead and the roar of the ocean, and Sorcha's footsteps once she reached the graveled area just in front of the massive structure seemed very loud. She paused, craning her neck to look up at the very top and the dark Fresnel lens that she could barely see beneath the cloudy sky.
