Sunday - Stuck

Who: Joel and Jane
When: mid-day
Where: Eldritch Island

Mass had been ... well, mass, and it had sort of soothed Joel's soul. He hardly listened to the litanies anymore, and he wasn't actively searching for some golden truth. It just felt good to be there in the presence of God. Especially with his sister by his side. It was a singularity. He didn't really know where his other siblings -- besides Turlough -- stood as far as their spirituality went, but Jane seemed keen enough to attend church regularly. So they'd met up at the ferry and gone.

Now everyone was filtering out, and Joel already had a cigarette tucked between his lips when the two McDonnells stepped outside. He lit it as soon as they were a little bit away from the rest of everyone, and glanced over at his newfound sister. "So ahh ... lunch, or anythin'?"

You're going to die an early death, you know. )

Sunday: Besties!

Who: Anna Lauren and Sam
Where: Juicy Java
When: early afternoon
Warnings: Possibly the conversation material and Sam's potty mouth.

Anna Lauren had come over to Darkwater on the eleven o'clock ferry, deciding that she was going to put in applications at several places on the mainland. She didn't really want to, because she thought it would be a pain in the ass to commute over here to work, but so far nobody on the island had called her. She could at least be prepared just in case nobody did, she thought. By the time she'd worked her way around to the potential places she could think of, she felt wilted. It was so hot today that it was ridiculous. She'd dressed nicely in a yellow sundress and sandals, and the material of the dress was sticking to her. Ugh.

Once she was done filling out applications, she decided to stop at Juicy Java and get something cold to drink. She ordered a peach smoothie at the counter and, after picking it up and paying for it, glanced around. Hey, there was Sam B. They hadn't talked all that much thus far, but she kinda liked the kid. He was quirky and his videos were hysterical. She wandered over to the table where he was sitting and said, "Hey," with a friendly smile.

Who else can talk about porn and anthropology in the same few sentences? )

Sunday: Sibling Bonding

Who: Sorcha and Sean
Where: Sorcha's place
When: 11:45 a.m.

Sorcha was sitting out on the screened porch that overlooked the side yard of the house in which she lived, using her laptop to check over her bank balance and answer e-mail from her bosses, who wanted to know when they could expect her to return. Pondering that question was giving her a headache, because she didn't know. Strangely enough, the lack of any further precognitive dreams about Jane and the man who wanted to kill her was unnerving; at least she felt as if she might find some sort of clue on how to locate him, how to prevent her vision from coming true if she could dream. How could she go back to Florida not knowing? How long could she expect her job to be held? She should probably just quit and save herself the struggle of trying to figure it out, but that wasn't something she could do without having found a job here.

Even worse, it was stiflingly hot today. She had an oscillating fan that her landlady'd had in the basement set up, and it blew lukewarm air over her as she sat on the wicker couch. It wasn't too bad in here, but stepping outside didn't sound like a whole lot of fun.

Sunday: Making Up

Who: Torin and Taryn
When: after midnight
Where: Taryn's room
Warnings: R for frank conversation

Torin was in a bit of a funk after he got home from hanging out with Sam. Strange how he always ended up feeling that way even though they had fun when they were together. The house was quiet, and he was just as glad not to have to explain his appearance: sticky despite the wash-up in the public bathroom at the beach and covered with sand, not to mention the dark stains on his clothes from chocolate syrup and such. Nobody would ever believe him if he tried to tell them about that incident. The clothes were probably ruined, and that added to his overall sucky mood right now.

I'll work on telling more if you pry less )

Sunday: Star-Crossed Strangers

Who: Jesse and Solana
Where: the beach
When: evening

Jesse had thought about it extensively and had come up with a possible solution for the problem of needing to launder his clothes but having no access to money. He'd collect cans and bottles and take them to the small recycling center that was located near the Shoppes, and he'd use the small amount of money he'd glean from that to feed the washer and dryer at the laundromat. With that goal in mind, he'd been wandering around for a couple of hours with a plastic bag he'd found in the bottom of one of the long, narrow lockers in his room, and he had the bag about half full. He could perform a public service and meet a need he had at the same time. He was humming under his breath as he made his way down the beach about a quarter of a mile from the lighthouse, seeing what he could find.

If only Solana had the foresight to be so industrious. Alas, her focus was always on much more immediate needs, and it was very rare for her clothes to be laundered. Not that she stunk them up as much as humans did, but still. Laying around in the sand and water got your stuff dirty. Which was what she was doing, half-in and half-out of the surf, spread-eagle and looking up at the endless sky. She liked the sky, and sometimes was irrationally envious of things that could fly. For all intents and purposes, she looked dead -- really dead -- as if someone had just dumped her there with her skirt hiked up around her thighs and her unblinking eyes open. She was utterly oblivious to anyone else that might be around, lost in her own disconnected thoughts.

...or maybe not. )

Sunday - Beach Day!

Who: M and Mac
When: early afternoon
Where: the beach!

Mac looked adorable, if she did say so herself. Her mocha-colored legs emerged smoothly from well-worn cut-off jean shorts -- a little shorter than her parents liked, but oh well -- and ended in sandals that showed off her bright teal toenails. She had a black-and-purple bikini top underneath her tanktop and a pair of giant retro-style sunglasses were perched on her nose. She had pulled her afro into two cute puffs, and had a wide fabric purple headband over the rest of it. None of it was an accident; one had to look cute when one was going to the beach with her boyfriend. It was just how things were.

She was currently slurping on the Icee they'd picked up on the way, and gazing out of M's car window. He'd been kind enough to pick her up, and she was nearly bouncing with excitement. While trying not to look bouncy. She looked over at his lovely profile and beamed. "This is great, it's gonna be so hot today."

Commence frolicking! )

Sunday: Innate Magic

Who: Tayne and Jesse
Where: The lighthouse
When: Afternoon

Between Mass and evening services, Tayne had a few hours free to do with as he pleased. He usually holed himself up at the rectory to recharge, but it'd been a few days since he'd seen Jesse, and he felt like he ought to rectify that situation. He had the vague sense that he'd dreamed about him-- again; he was equally sure, in a vague way, it hadn't been the first time-- and it left him wanting to make sure the guy was still around, and all right.

He had one of the tins of Art's cookies under one arm as he climbed out of his truck to land on the gravel of the lot beside the lighthouse, even though he knew Jesse didn't really eat. He just felt like he ought to, anyway. Maybe there'd been cookies in the dream, or something, heh.

It was something of a surprise, as he approached, to see the swarm of gulls and... were those doves?... that seemed to have covered the whole damn outcropping the lighthouse was on. And the lighthouse itself. "What in th'world...?" he muttered, frowning at the carpet of white and gray between him and Jesse.

And lots of birds. )
