Friday: Devils Advocate

Who: Misty and Sam
Where: The woods above Darkwater
When: Late afternoon

Misty was moving sluggishly. Truth be told, she didn't feel well. It had been sunnier earlier in the week and that always made her head hurt. Her bones felt too hot. Traditionally, it meant that she hid under her covers and read novels by flashlight. Unfortunately, Patty wasn't leaving her alone to do that.

With a heavy sigh, she got up and dressed in one of her favourite blue frocks. She pulled her dreads into pigtails and tugged on some white and black stripped thigh-high socks. Instead of her beloved maryjanes, she laced up a battered old pair of eight hole docks. She had every intention of hiking a long way today.

You're pretty brave, wandering into the woods alone. )

Sea Sick

Who: Taryn and Misty
Where: The ferry back to Darkwater
When: As soon as they start running again.

Misty was a jumble of misery by the time the ferry heaved itself away from the doc. She hurried into the cabin, hoping that some warmth might creep back into her frozen bones. She'd spent the most amazing night on the island! Sure, the encounter with Cian had been strange and upsetting, but things had gotten much better after she'd slunk away from the party. She'd found her way to the cemetery and, black-hearted little gothling that she was, she'd immediately investigated. The wind was rushing through the trees and the lights were on in the rectory but she didn't think she'd be in trouble for being there.

If not for the wind, she might have never found the broken crypt. The metal gate over the door was squealing and grating in the wind, banging rhythmically against the stone doorway. After investigating, she found that it was crumbling and rusty but still solid. Misty squeezed through the gap caused by the broken door and, once out of the wind, felt a little warmer. She had settled down to listen to the oncoming storm, and had even dozed. She woke when the rain started to fall, though. The damp seemed to ooze out of the stone around her and the water worked it's way inside. Her dress got a little wet.

She'd snuck out of the crypt as soon as it was light and the rain stopped. Blundering through the small village, she finally found a sign that pointed her back to the docks, where she waited for the boats to start up again. Though she was able to wait inside the boat house, she just didn't feel like she was warming up. She'd spent a couple of dollars on a tall hot chocolate and by the time she boat was underway, it was just cool enough to drink. She sighed, closing her eyes in bliss as the heat of the drink seeped into her frigid fingers.

Saturday: I Know

Who: Cian and Misty
Where: the party
When: 9:30ish

Cian had been doing his host thing, wandering around outside and putting out the tiki torches he'd had lit as the wind got higher and higher; nearly everyone was out of the pool by now, and the poolhouse was full of people drying off and changing in the bathroom in there. He'd talked to a few people, found Ava again to steal a few kisses, although he hadn't taken the time to tell her about Taryn hitting on him. There'd be time for that later. Now he was back inside and sauntering through the den, figuring he should go check the food and booze situation again. Man, giving a party was hard work. He headed through the back hallway to the kitchen, feeling as if he'd traced this route over and over tonight.

Whatever it is... it doesn't work on me. )

Saturday - Unwitting Party Snack

Who: Misty and Mac
When: a little after nine-ish
Where: Cian's party

Mac was having a fabulous time at the party so far. She'd had a couple of beers, but drank them slowly enough that she was only feeling slightly good. She wasn't ever a girl to get really trashed, and tonight was no exception. There'd been eating, laughing, poking people to say hello, and then some swimming. Though she was a bit self-conscious about being in a bathing suit in front of so many people -- another reason for the couple of beers -- Mac adapted to it quickly. M was swimming, after all, and she was definitely enjoying the time with him.

Eventually she got a bit waterlogged, however, and got his attention away from Cian to tell him that she was getting out for a while, she'd catch up to him later. Dripping all over, her hair a complete mess, she got out and went hunting for her towel and a hair-tie. Once she was suitably wrapped and her afro puff was tied back, she wandered to where the drinks were, someone moving farther back in the yard catching her eye.

Misty had scooted to the patio to snag a beer out of the cooler before retreating quickly to a large boulder set on the edge of the garden. It was quieter over there, with hardly any traffic. The two kids from her foster home, PJ and Patty, were already well on their way to being sloshed. Misty was glad that they seemed to have forgotten she was with them. Other people, she noticed, were starting to give them sidelong looks and she thought it was only a matter of time before the owner of the house - whoever that might be - would have to evict them. Misty would go with them, she decided. No reason to hang around here. It would be better if she trailed the other two home, just to make sure they got there okay.

Fascinating. )
