Tuesday: A Good Hostess

Who: Cordelia and Noah
When: Evening
Where: Cordy's house!

When she'd received the call from Noah, Cordelia was at work, finishing up a few proofs for a family with a newborn she'd just photographed. She had been busy, so the phone call was brief, but by the time they hung up, they had plans for dinner and Cordelia would be cooking. She had been to his boat several times, and he'd only been to her house once, when he'd picked her up and dropped her off on their first date. Cordy was looking forward to cooking for someone besides herself, and hey, he'd get to meet Pepper, right?

After work, Cordelia drove home, let the dog outside and then changed from her work clothes into a simple green sundress and then started the lasagna. It was a simple dish, one her mom cooked at least once a week for the two of them, so Cordelia knew the recipe like the back of her hand. She put it into the over, made a salad and buttered some garlic bread before letting Pepper back in the house and feeding him. The weather was pretty crappy, but warm enough that she left the french doors open in the back of the house anyway, since it wasn't raining into the house.

Monday: Easily Led

Who: Noah and Taryn
When: Evening
Where: Juicy Java, then Noah's boat

The weather was a pain in the ass. Taryn wasn't pleased by the scorching, stifling ninety degree weather, but she suffered through it for about an hour, tanning out by the pool. She already had a lovely bronze color from Italy, but it had started to fade a bit and she wanted to look sexy for her coffee date with Noah.

She stayed inside the rest of the day, and then around six took a shower and blow dried her hair straight. After a lot of consideration, she pulled on a white, strapless - no tan lines, thank you very much - sundress that skimmed a few inches above her knees, followed by her knee high leather black boots. She tied her hair up into a high ponytail, but let a few strands fall to frame her face. After spending a half hour perfecting her makeup, Taryn knew she looked hot. Sexy. Confident. Older. And she fully expected Noah to tell her so too. Maybe not in those specific words, but he would have to be gay not to want her.

Somehow Taryn managed to get her purse and get out of the house without running into either of her brothers or her parents. She got into her car, released a slow breath and then drove to the marina. By then, the sun had set, the night had cooled off a little, and there was a nice breeze that would hopefully keep from messing up her hair.

You should know that there's a limit to what I'll do on the first date. )

Friday: Semi-Oblivious

Who: Noah and Taryn
When: Midday
Where: Noah's boat!

It was a Friday, and Taryn was bored. This was never a good thing, since boredom tended to make her extremely restless and bitchy. She didn't have Torin or Trevor to bug, and it seemed all of her friends were too busy for her, which heightened her irritation even further. Finally, after attempting to sunbathe out by the pool with little success thanks to the sporadic bursts of sunshine that never last that long, Taryn stomped back in the house and up to her room. She decided to get out of the house and drive somewhere. Shopping, the beach, she didn't care as long as she wasn't stuck inside anymore.

She didn't bother changing out of her red bikini, but instead tugged on a thin, white tank top and a short, frayed jean skirt that skimmed her already tanned thighs. After repinning her hair on top of her head, she grabbed her purse and slipped on her sandals before grabbing her keys to leave. Once she was actually in her car and driving into town, Taryn started giving more thought to where she wanted to go. It didn't take long before she decided to have a little bit of fun.

Wednesday: Hidden Talents

Who: Cordelia and Noah
When: Evening
Where: The Dirty Birdie and then Noah's boat
Warning: NSFW

As promised during their last 'date', Cordelia was in charge of deciding what she and Noah ought to do for their outing this evening. The weather was gorgeous and she decided she wanted to do something outside, rather than staying in. Logic told her that it made sense to have dinner somewhere, and while she adored Seaside Cafe since it had outdoor patio seating that overlooked Johnson's Beach, Cordelia also found a romantic dinner by the ocean a little bit cheesy. She was a romantic at heart, sure, but even she felt like wrinkling her nose at the idea of dragging the poor guy to that kind of atmosphere. There were other things Cordelia found entertaining, and romantic, that didn't come near spending a fortune at a fancy seafood restaurant.

And since she didn't want to be conventional, Cordelia decided on something completely different. She drove to the marina about an hour before sunset, wearing a dark green sundress and comfortable sandals. For once she wore her hair down over her shoulders since Noah had seemed to prefer it, and she was thankful it wasn't too windy around Darkwater that evening. It was all she could do not to grab a hair tie and pull it up out of her face. The theme of the evening, in Cordy's mind, was casual. It was what she was most comfortable with, and she was realizing Noah was the same way.

Now I know your secret. You ready for mine? )

Getting Over It

Who: Noah and Allie
When: evening
Where: phone

Noah had gone for a run along the beach and then to pick up some takeout, and he hadn't brought his phone along. So when he returned to the boat at about 9 p.m., he found that he had a message waiting. He put his food down on the little table and then accessed his voicemail, his eyebrows lifting a touch as he listened. Allie. He hadn't thought he'd ever hear from her again. It had only been three days since he'd left a voicemail for her, true, but he'd just had a feeling that she was terrified of him now.

He got himself a beer from the fridge, washed up and settled himself at the table, taking a few bites of his chicken lo mein before returning the call. He put his phone to his ear and waited to see if she'd pick up.

Allie picked up on the third ring, sounding a little breathless. "Hello?" She had been just getting ready for bed after logging some time with her shower. She'd washed sand out of every nook and cranny she could think of, but she still felt like she was gritty. Allie hadn't even looked at the caller ID. She half expected it to be her father and the other half way laying bets that it was the hospital. She'd spent so much time tromping up and down the beach, she'd forgotten that she'd called Noah.

Sunday: Playing Around?

Who: Taryn and Noah
When: around 5 p.m.
Where: the marina

Once Taryn got home that afternoon, she made it a point to soak for a good long while in a hot bubble bath, wearing her earphones and refusing to even acknowledge her cell phone that continually beeped from messages her friends were sending. She'd been in a sour mood, since she hated having to stay on the island the night before. She had missed sleeping in her own bed, and wearing her own pajamas and being in her own room. The party itself had been decent, though it could have been better if Cian Andersen hadn't been so stupidly reluctant. He was a prime example of why she ignored boys her age, or in high school. They were all either too easy, or too noble. Which made them boring. But it didn't matter. She had made it home, attempted to flirt and embarrass an older Irish guy, and then got to do the whole bubble bath thing without her parents or brother annoying the crap out of her.

Since she was clean and feeling ten times better, she decided to drive down into town and do some shopping, if any of the stores were open after the storm the night before. Since she had been in such a bad mood earlier, Taryn made it a point to look good, since she always felt if she looked good, she would feel good too. She'd curled her hair a bit, wore a short jean skirt and soft looking, loose top and then wore her calf high black boots. It made her look a little bit older than stupid sixteen, so that was a definite plus too, since you never knew who you might meet while you were out.

If there's something I want, I'm generally pretty good at eventually getting it. )

Saturday: Riders on the Storm

Who: Noah and Jessalyn
When: Late night
Where: The marina

True to her word, Jessalyn had brought back Noah's clothes he'd loaned her when they had their mysterious shifting episode a few days back. After leaving Mikael's apartment - with a date! - she had gone home, cleaned up her apartment some and then washed Noah's clothes. Thankfully she hadn't shrunk anything, and after folding them neatly, she placed them in a plastic grocery bag and set them on the table. Almost instantly she forgot about them, thanks to her roommate arriving home and dragging Jessalyn out for pizza.

It was late when she got back, and the night sky was ominous cloudy. The winds were picking up too, but once Jessalyn saw the clothes on the table, she grabbed the bag and headed out on her bike again toward the marina. She supposed she could have waited until morning, but she'd promised him she would give him back his things, and it had already been several days.

Where: The Watering Hole

Friday: Guilty Pleasures

Who: Noah and Cordelia
When: Evening
Where: Seaside, then the pier

Cordelia was more or less ready for her outing with Noah by the time seven o'clock rolled around. She wasn't someone who spent a lot of time tearing up her wardrobe to find something cute to wear, nor did she stand in front of the bathroom mirror and meticulously put on her make up and do her hair. She hadn't been lying to Noah when she told him she was a low-maintenance kind of person. She pulled on the first 'pretty' thing she saw in her closet, a blue and green maxi summer dress, found some sandals to match and then tied her hair up into a high ponytail. Her makeup consisted of lip gloss and some mascara and that was about it. If she had Ashley's sense of style, she was sure she would probably come across as a lot more alluring and sexy, but sadly, that was Ashley's domain.

When she heard the doorbell, Cordy grabbed her bag from the kitchen chair and went to answer it. She had no idea what they would be doing, but she was hoping it wasn't anything fancy. So far Noah seemed pretty laid back, so she was expecting something to mirror that.

Noah's dressing up involved wearing dark jeans as opposed to the faded ones with holes in them and putting actual shoes on his feet instead of flip flops. He'd put a blue and white striped polo shirt on top of the jeans, washed his slightly stubbled face and called it good. He could do fancy, but as a general rule he wasn't much into it, and he tended to prefer people who weren't, either. He'd managed to get over to Cordy's place right on time-- which was good, since being late would tend to make a bad impression-- and he enjoyed the evening breeze as he waited for her to open the door. "Hey," he said with a smile once she appeared. He didn't find anything lacking in her outfit; the colors of the dress she wore made her hair look extra-vivid, and it skimmed her body nicely. "Ever been to Seaside?" he asked, naming the little oceanfront cafe that was a local favorite. "I thought we might wander over there. Hope you don't mind walkin', since I don't actually have a car." It was only a few blocks.

I brought you out here, so it's my responsibility to keep you warm )

Friday: What's a Defrag?

Who: Noah and Corwin
Where: Darkwater Computers
When: 10:30 a.m.

Noah had foregone a morning run in order to get his computer looked at, as he'd been planning to do since before he'd met Corwin on the beach the previous Saturday. Consequently, he was still feeling sluggish even though he'd had half of a 20 ounce bottle of Mountain Dew he'd found in the refrigerator on his boat. The caffeine apparently hadn't kicked in yet. He walked out of the marina grounds and headed toward the shopping strip, dressed in a t-shirt, running shorts and flip-flops, carrying his laptop wrapped in a thin leopard-print computer case. So sue him, he found that amusing. Panther... leopard skin... Yeah. Sometimes it didn't take a lot to entertain him.

He took his time walking to Darkwater Computers, and by the time he got there, he felt more awake. At least he'd stopped yawning, which was always a plus. He pushed open the door and headed inside, laptop still held beneath one arm in its handleless case.

I guess that means you haven't done one. )

Thursday: A Little Weird

Who: Noah and Christian
When: 11:30 a.m.
Where: Booklovers

It had certainly been an interesting morning, and Noah was hoping for slightly less drama as he rode the ferry over to Eldritch to visit the bookstore. After he'd parted ways with Jessalyn, he'd gone back to the boat to shower and dress in fresh clothes, resisted the urge to sit down and write right then and, after taking care of making the couple of phone calls he needed to, he'd left again to walk over to the landing. He hoped that he wouldn't randomly shift again like he had the night before, but he wasn't overly worried about it. Not much he could do but deal with it if he did, anyway.

He walked his bicycle off the ferry and then got on, taking off in the direction of the shopping center where the bookstore was located. It was still a little chilly, but the fog had burned off, at least, and he enjoyed the ride over. Once he arrived there, he parked his bike and made his way into the store, glancing around curiously once inside.

Thursday: This is Awkward

Who: Jessalyn and Noah
When: 8am
Where: Near the marina, then Noah's boat

Jessalyn hadn't quite known what to do with herself since the night before, when she so suddenly, involuntarily shifted while she had been riding her bicycle home from the library through the awful weather. It was scary enough to be shifting without actually wanting, or meaning to, but the worst part had been not being able to shift back. Her bike and bag of books had gone tumbling, and she found herself as a squirrel, of all possible things.

She had run all the way home, but her apartment window wasn't open, or even cracked wide enough for her to shimmy inside. The lights were off, which meant her roommate wasn't home, so there was no chance of Jessalyn even scratching at the door to get any kind of attention. So she spent the night trying to find a safe place to park herself. She thought about shifting into a cat, or dog, but she didn't need animal control spotting a stray running about. Not to mention all of the possible predators out there that could try to eat her if she attempted a bird, or rabbit. A wolf would just scare people!

It might have been more subtle to offer to take her for a ride on your pen...er, boat. )

Wednesday - Not What You Expected

Who: Allie and Noah
Where: Peterman's Seafood Restaurant
When: Just about 7pm on the button.

Allie had pedaled home like the devil was after her, despite feeling like she was going to fall over at any minute. The early part of the week had been the most exhausting few days yet. She'd ended up staying late both Monday and Tuesday nights due to some sort of flu sweeping through the staff. She had the misfortune of insisting to Dr. Fisher that she felt fine and so she'd ended up doing the head nurses' paperwork! Today though, she had insisted from the beginning that she was leaving at five and nothing save a shotgun was going to make her stay. She'd managed to unlock her bike by quarter to six.

She barely saw the passing landscape as she whooshed her way home, threw herself into the shower and quickly scrubbed the grime of the hospital off of herself. With her hair freshly washed and blown dry, she felt a lot better. Allie pulled on a pair of capri tights, a jean skirt and a billowy bright yellow top and pumps to match, scooped her still a little bit damp hair up into a ponytail and dabbed on the barest bit of natural looking makeup. Just enough to hide her fatigue. Her favourite retro denim jacket was shrugged on against the slight chill along the coast that evening. She was half tempted to toss an umbrella into the bike's handlebar basket but decided against it.

She re-boarded her bike, tossed her heels in the handlebar basket and took her time down the boardwalk to Peterman's. After locking it up to a nearby light post, Allie slipped her shoes on again and strolled in through the front door. She was greeted by the same blond hostess as she had been the last time and Allie smiled. "Hi there, is Noah Absolom here yet?" she asked.

Monday: Low-Maintenance

Who: Noah and Cordelia
When: evening
Where: Noah's boat

All Noah had to do to prepare for Cordy's visit was to straighten up the main living area of the boat and then get himself cleaned up, and he found himself rushing around at the last minute to do that. He could get so engrossed in his writing that he lost all track of time, but fortunately he pulled himself away and got the living area with its small table, kitchen counters and narrow two-seater couch neatened up. No dirty glasses or plates, no clothing left strewn around, books in the tiny bookcase against one wall lined up. He sprayed a blast of air freshener and even lit a votive candle on the table for a bit of ambience before hurrying into the shower.

Noah Absolom was nothing if not low-maintenance, and he was out and dressed within ten minutes in jeans, a long-sleeved t-shirt and flip-flops, his close-cropped hair dried with one scrub of a towel over his head. He was good to go, and after a glance at the clock, he headed up to the deck of his boat to wait.

Saturday: Walking Home

Who: Allie and Noah
Where: Somewhere on the boardwalk between Vapor and Allie's place
When: Very late.

Allie had been having fun with Santiago. Granted, not at much fun as the couple in the next booth over. She at least felt like she'd held on to most of her mysteries. They'd reached a point where they were either going to have to go find more privacy or go their separate ways for the night. Allie had ended up shooing the host back toward the party. She'd had a couple more cosmos (all the while thanking her father for giving her his strong Irish constitution along with her pint size) and danced a bit longer.

Not too long after midnight, however, she realized that she was a little tipsy and getting very tired. She'd thought about calling a cab and perhaps sober, she definitely would have. As it was, she was looking forward to a walk. She blew a kiss to Santiago from across the party and slipped out into the night. Compared to the steamy crush of the club, the marina was chilly and refreshing. Allie sighed in relief and cut down the path that led to the boardwalk. It would meander up along the northern edge of Sandpiper Cove and take her pretty much to her front door.

Saturday: Great Day

Who: Noah and Corwin
When: midday
Where: Johnson's Beach

Noah had arisen late, as he usually did, and discovered that it was an amazing day. He'd decided to forego writing for the moment and he'd gotten dressed in a baggy pair of swim trunks, sandals and his favorite shades, grabbed his water bottle and taken off to the beach. He loved having Johnson's Beach so close to the marina. He could easily walk there, and he did so often. Tilting his face up to the sun, he wandered past the public restrooms and the snack stand, then stopped a short distance from the tide line to ponder whether he wanted to sit down on the sand or walk some more.

A big, rather fluffy dog was trotting along the beach in his general direction. He was lacking in leash, and his whole lower half was soaked with fur sticking up in odd directions and places. Obviously he'd been splashing around in the waves.

Friday: Stolen Souls

Who: Noah and Cordelia
When: Early afternoon
Where: Johnson's Beach

There weren't many people who would take their day off to do anything related to their job, but Cordelia was one of few, she was sure, who enjoyed her job. And she always had her camera with her anyway, so today was no different. Since the weather was just the right temperature, she dressed in jeans and a tank top and drove out to Johnson's beach. Since it was still pretty early, it wasn't as busy as it would be once the summer heat really kicked in. And just as she predicted, the ocean was full of life, churning and splashing wildly upon the shore. She was already envisioning beautiful black and white photographs that she could frame and put in her house.

After leaving her shoes, bag and sweater in the car, Cordelia walked down the beach, eager to find the perfect place to plant herself for awhile and take a few photographs.
