Wednesday: An Audience with an Immortal

Who: Santiago and Senturion
Where: Vapor
When: Late Evening

Senturion was not a woman who liked being in the dark about things. Arturion had told her a little about the magnetic man called Santiago but she had never seen him and this was unacceptable to her. She wasn't generally a very outgoing golem but tonight she made an exception, walking to Vapor shortly after ten PM and stepping inside. She was wary of being there, with her weight being her biggest concern, but Arturion had said it was a very sturdy place, made for crowds of people. Crowds of people tended not to put all the focal point on one small spot however so she wasn't entirely calmed by this theory. She'd stick to the ground floor and close to the exit and hope the floor held.

At the bar she ordered 'something sweet' and looked around at the people. There weren't too many there but still, a decent amount for a worknight. "I'm looking for Santiago," she told the bartender when he handed her a neon green drink with multiple straws and a slice of orange in it. It looked weird, but tasted delicious. He wasn't quite so willing to tell her where his boss was, but offered to let him know he was being looked for. It was better than nothing and Sen stood by the bar while the man darted off. She didn't want to break the fancy looking chairs by sitting on them, who knew just how many hundreds of pounds they were really designed to hold.

With all the expected questions therein. )

Tuesday: Discussing Impossibilities - and Tea

Who: Santiago & Thomas
When: Tuesday, early afternoon
Where: Vapor

Monday had been beautiful. Thomas had wandered the town and sketched, thoroughly enjoying the Oregon weather. Monday had been hot. Thomas had stayed in his hotel suite and focused on calls and conferences and various details of the business with which he was involved. Such was life as a member of many boards. Tuesday, it rained, which wasn't a complete surprise, given how the air had felt the day before. Wind wasn't his element, but he was still an elemental Son. He stood on his balcony, in the rain, and watched as it washed the streets of Darkwater clean. He decided it had been too long since he'd conversed with Santiago and rather than call, Thomas dressed casually, brought an umbrella and walked to Vapor. Though the rain didn't really bother him, he thought he'd better not add 'dripping on the floor' to the squishing he'd be doing in his sneakers as he wandered the club. He took his time, arriving after lunch, shaking his sodden umbrella and entering the club.

You're the one getting drenched. Though I suppose someone like you would enjoy getting drenched. )

Monday: Difficult

Who: Ashley and Santiago
Where: Vapor
When: evening

Ashley was now arriving a full forty-five minutes to an hour before she was supposed to be on shift at the club. Being Santiago's assistant was demanding in a different way than bartending and DJing were, and she felt that she needed every advantage she could get. The job had gone relatively well thus far, despite a few hitches, and she only hoped that experience would help her smooth things out. She strode through the foyer, dressed in a gold catsuit that made her skin glow and high-heeled boots, her hair and makeup suitably dramatic. Her new position required her to be noticeable, to command attention, and really she didn't dress much differently from the way she had to DJ. Maybe a touch more polished. She headed for the office area, where she generally stowed her flashy, oversized shoulder bag while she worked.

You know, Marilyn Monroe once said that if a person couldn't handle her at her worst, they didn't deserve her best. That's a lot like you, I think. )

Thursday: Unflappable

Who: Ashley and Santiago
Where: Vapor
When: evening

Ashley wasn't late, but she was closer to it than she liked to be. Tonight she was on bartending first, then DJing up into the wee hours. Just how she liked it. Being in the DJ booth, becoming one with the music, was both more fun and more intense the later it got. She hurried through the foyer at Vapor, her sky-high heels clicking along-- she had such a love of stilettos that she seemed to have developed an innate knack for balancing on them over the years-- intent on putting her purse and her jacket away so she could begin her shift. She had about fifteen minutes before she had to be behind the main bar downstairs, and she liked to allow at least a half-hour in case Miss Amanda or Santiago needed to give her any news or information about the night ahead.

For the past two nights, there hadn't been much contact with either the owner of the club or the woman in charge of running it. It still ran, of course, since there were still plenty of people who could pick up the slack, but it was a little unusual. After all, Miss Amanda never took a night off, or so rumor had it, and Mr. Baquero only took a night off when he felt like he'd had enough attention fawned on him.

there may be a quiz )

Wednesday: Changes

Who: Thomas & Santiago
Where: Vapor
When: Night

He hadn't spoken with Santiago in a few days, but instead of calling him, which seemed so impersonal, given their proximity, Thomas decided to make an appearance at the club. He wore jeans and a t-shirt, but bother were snug and sufficiently eye-catching to be club attire. Not that he really cared, though the vanity streak was preening a little tonight. He had finally met one of the other Sons, the one Santaigo didn't get along with, and he wanted to talk about it and generally catch up. Perhaps Fay was on duty tonight and he could see her, too. It had been just as long since he's spoken with her.

He entered Vapor and absorbed the atmosphere and subtle attention that his presence just naturally provided. He knew his brother was in the building. He'd track him down in a moment.

A Missing Person. )

Monday: A Clear Day

Who: Santiago & Thomas
When: Monday late morning
Where: Santiago's Island Home

He had directions, quite clear from the man himself, but he didn't really need them. He could sense the Metal Son as he climbed the path to his island home. The structure was a small, unimposing cottage, really, but the rose bushes were doing well out front. The Water Son appreciated the low-key approach to living, though it wouldn't necessarily be his choice.

Thomas Shore had walked from the ferry, because he enjoyed the exercise and it gave him time to think. He liked the feel of the ground under his feet, the smell of the water nearby, the wind at his back. It was summer, he was on the coast of North America and he was going to visit his brother. The rest didn't really matter.

And more murky feelings. )

Sunday: Fangirling

Who: Sam and Santiago
Where: Pharmacy
When: Afternoon

It had been such a relief to get off the Island and after cracking bad Lost jokes about it, Sam got thrown out of the house - so to speak. More accurately he was just sent out to get food and some things from the pharmacy. What he really wanted to do was to go to the beach. There was chatter in the channels about weird stuff being around and he wanted to see it. If he hurried, he might get there before it got too dark out - not that he minded the dark but things were easier to find in daylight.

He jumped off his bike outside the pharmacy and almost forgot to lock it, having to run back out and do that before going back inside. He was still wearing his party clothes thanks to his mom's dire need for painkillers STAT but he didn't mind. It still made for a fun jingle as he sauntered inside the store, browsing for the things he was required to buy and there were a few.

It was only his due, after all. )

Saturday: Brothers Reunited

Who: Santiago & Thomas
When: Saturday Night
Where: Vapor

The tour had been very thorough.

Santiago was very proud of the club and all the changes he had made. It was very diverting to have him so excited. For his part, Thomas was just delighted to have encountered him again. Three hundred years since the last time. Too much time apart for such as they, or so he thought, but then, he hadn't met the other three Sons in all that time. Strange, but true. Perhaps they were hiding...

He ordered another drink from the bar tender, who was very polite and professional and smiling and so on, but was giving both men curious looks. Thomas had briefly wondered if there was something on his face, but he'd checked in a polished, metal surface at one point and his face was fine.

I think it's FANTASTIC. )

Saturday - Sex Ed

Who: Santiago & Art
Where: Vapor
When: Early Saturday Morning - as in 'Oh-God-o'clock'...

It was almost one thirty in the morning and Arturion Stone was standing across the road from a familiar club. Vapor wasn't quiet, but then nothing was quite right, it seemed. Something was wrong, though the golem didn't know what - outside of his own confusion. He had questions and Corwin didn't have the answers - he'd said as much - and there was no point in asking Sen. She either wouldn't understand or wouldn't know how to explain it.

He thought he knew someone who could help him, though.

Art entered the club, showed his ID, and was sent inside. He scanned the crowd, looking for the tattooed man and hoping he wasn't making a mistake.

You came here to ask after my sex life? Seriously? )

Friday: Family Dinner Night

Who: Santiago, Torin, Taryn and Antony and Jerrilyn Spencer (NPCs)
Where: the Spencer home
When: early evening

The occasion of Santiago Ascencio Baquero's visit was the first time the Spencers had used their elegant dining room since Christmas Eve, when Jerrilyn and Antony traditionally invited all of their extended family to the house for a holiday party that always lasted well into the night. They'd been out of the country, of course, and had only been back a few days, but ordinarily, the room would not have been used again until Thanksgiving. This, however, was an event, and the five of them (Trevor had gone out of town with some friends of his, so he was not present) had dined in the midst of candles, fresh flowers and soft music-- Spanish guitar instrumentals, mostly-- in the background.

Once they became aware of exactly who Santiago was, Jerri Spencer was pleased that she'd spared no expense and trouble for this dinner. She'd even hired uniformed waitstaff to serve them, and of course the food and wine were top-notch. It was a meal full of gentil conversation and much shared history, and while ordinarily young adults might have been bored with such a gathering, in this case Taryn and Torin were not. How often did one get to spend time with the father of their race? None of them could possibly be blase about that.

Dessert was served on the roofed patio, lit by twinkling lights wound around the posts and a chimania at the edge of the grouping of cushioned outdoor furniture, and the conversation had continued unabated until Antony received a call that he needed to take, and he excused himself as gracefully as possible. It was a successful evening without doubt, and Jerri was pleased and relieved by that. "I'll be back in a few," she said, rising from her seat with a smile. "I think we could all use some more wine." They'd all been drinking it, even Taryn who at nineteen wasn't quite old enough. The Spencers tended to have more European sensibilities about that sort of thing, though. Jerri vanished into the house, and the three were left alone in the pleasant evening air.

did I manage to surprise you? )

Thursday: Moody Metal

Who: Santiago and Fay ("Miss Amanda")
Where: Vapor Nightclub
When: Late night

Drifting out into the club proper after washing up a little and getting his clothes in order, Santiago had a relatively contented look on his face. Compared to the bored, frustrated, and generally discontented one he'd been wearing, it was quite a change. He wandered out to the bar, got himself another drink, and then went in search of his manager and protege, in a way. He knew she would be around somewhere, and he probably ought to know about the potential for a fluids drinker vampire dropping by now and then.

Hopefully she knew what those were. Santiago realized in that moment he really didn't know how much about non-elementals his "Miss Amanda" knew. Perhaps soon he'd have to remedy that.

For now, he went hunting for her and her infamous clipboard.

I've nothing to relax for. )

Flashback: Little Sister

Who: Santiago (AKA Adeline) and Thomas (AKA Alexandre)
Where: Court, in Paris, France
When: Early 1700s, late autumn, late afternoon

Court was just settling in for the evening, and one Adeline Delacroix was settling in with it, sitting by the massive fireplace and working on needlepoint while various men and women paid deference to her. The fact that she was actually a man in a very good disguise was either ignored by those few who knew it, or completely unknown. The wealthy widow had been part of the court for a few years now, and had quite happily integrated herself so that she would last for a few more years to come. She had a title, she had the money to back it up, and she had a few friends in high places.

And the Metal Elemental Son was having the time of his life, fooling the whole country into thinking he was who he said he was. Even if it meant abstinence except on days when he could escape the trappings of rank for a while-- not that he was terribly interested at this point in time, anyhow-- it was different, and he liked different now and then.

Thursday: A Feeding

Who: Santiago and Solana
Where: Vapor
When: Night

Wednesday had been slow-- the storm kept people at home, tossed the ships at the private dock and the marina around like toys, but thankfully caused little damage. Today, though, the numbers were back up. The fog swirling around outside served to make the club seem mysterious and exotic all over again, and there were plenty of people there. The music was loud, the dance floor was packed, the lights were swirling, the drinks were flowing.

And yet Santiago was restless. He'd danced, he'd drank, he'd flirted. And none of it was satisfying tonight.

No pretending. )

Tuesday: Ego is Necessary

Who: Santiago and Cordelia
When: Early afternoon
Where: Cordelia's studio

Even though Santiago had long since misplaced the card Cordelia had given him, it didn't take much time or effort to track down the red-headed photographer's studio in Darkwater. There were only so many such things in town, after all. He'd escaped his business-related duties under the excuse of finding marketing support-- not that he needed an excuse, but it did keep his accountants happier-- dressed in a disgustingly conservative khaki-and-suit-jacket combo with only his usual make-up and jewelry as a nod to his oddness, and went out hunting. Sure enough, he found it within the hour.

After considering it a moment, he wandered right in, and investigated the pictures on the walls, first. If Cordelia was here, he assumed she would find him.

This had been a relatively productive little meeting, if a bit less flirty than he'd half-hoped. )

Flashback - When in Rome...

Who: Thomas and Santiago, under the names Tomas and Demitri
Where: The home of a mutual business associate, just outside Rome, whilst still being in a fashionable district...
When: Early Evening, spring, 224 BC

Two years into the reign of Alexander Severus, a boy who was, as far as those in the know could tell, ruled by his mother and grandmother, some sanity in government had at least been established. Trade was going well and Tomas Antonius had drifted south again to check on the progress of the ruling class of one of the most incredible empires in current times. He was a merchant still, though dealing with rare items, which he was noted for acquiring for his more regular customers. He did business by word of mouth, so social gatherings like this one, at the home of Gaius Junius, were ideal opportunities.

Dressed in the standard attire for the period and his level of recognized wealth. He wore a simple, white tunic, sleeveless, which reached to his knees, and a white toga over top. A toga wasn't the most elegant of garments, but it was a symbol of citizenship, so what could be done but dress accordingly? Too much fabric, by far, and this swatch over the left shoulder? Awkward.

But when in Rome...

Tomas nodded to a few familiar faces as he crossed leisurely through the atrium, passed the little chapel to the ancestral spirits, to the tablinum, which was the large reception area on the main floor of this fine home. People were mingling there before the evening meal in the triclinium - assuming he stayed that long. These affairs frequently bored him and though he maintained an air of interest and refinement and bestowed a smile and a nod on many people gathered there, he really just wanted to acquire sufficient orders so he could leave and find entertainment more suited to his mood elsewhere.

Perhaps he didn't really need the business, but it behooved him to make connections.

Though his hair was dark brown, it was his blue eyes which had made him decide that northern Italy would be better for his origins. Less intrusive questions. He accepted a beverage from a young slave, who was wandering with a tray and braving the unwanted attentions of some boorish senator or other. Tomas sighed. Sometimes he wondered if Humanity was worth the effort.

Monday: Extended Family

Who: Santiago and Torin
Where: An outdoor cafe
When: Mid-afternoon

It was time for Santiago's daily requirement of fresh air. He did try to get out at least for a little while-- farther than his front porch, if he was at the house, or the private dock, if he was at the club-- at least once a day. The change of scenery, he had long since learned, did him good. Besides, it meant eating food not prepared by his own employees which required summoning them and paying overtime fees, or by himself which required effort, and it also meant having the chance to people-watch.

Today, since the weather was still so lovely, he'd found one a little French cafe that had outdoor seating and gotten himself a table there, along with a fairly pleasant meal. Now he was just sipping a glass of (expensive) wine and idly watching the people pass. Most of them didn't pay him much attention, since he wasn't dressed too outrageously today-- he only had a slightly feminine-ized suit in deep green and black, with a ribbon or two woven into his hair and half a dozen gold and emerald rings-- and his make-up was relatively subdued.

Monday - So early in the morning...

Who: Art & Santiago
Where: Vapor
When: 1:00 am Monday morning (Sunday hours)

Lightning. Blue, white, black. Curls of metal, like shaved chocolate. A deep mood for the entry to a re-opened club. Art had seen the posters and heard people talk about it when they came to the shop. Vapor. The hot place to be, where the 'now crowd' went, to see and be seen.

Art wasn't the 'now crowd'. He doubted he'd ever be part of any crowd, not if he existed until the end of the universe itself. He didn't need to see anyone, nor did he particularly wish to be seen, but he'd just finished reading 'War and Peace' and needed a walk to clear his head. It was a dense piece of fiction, doing its best to reflect historical fact without being tedious.

The jury was still out on the level of its success in that regard.

It had been a comfortably warm June day and had cooled around midnight, to the point where he'd noticed people wearing a light jacket. Art didn't feel the cold as he wandered toward the water. He loved the water. Hiding beneath the surface was one of his favorite things to do. He wasn't going to submerge tonight, though, and he hadn't chosen this direction with the club in mind. But he was here and it was here, so why not take a look, he'd thought?

He turned in a slow circle, taking in the decor, and then found himself eye to collar bone with a taller man, who was almost as wide as a door.

"I need to see some identification, please," the man rumbled. Art glanced up at him, then nodded and pulled his wallet from his back pocket. All his ID declared he was twenty-eight years old. An interesting fantasy. So, he stood there, in a dark green T-shirt, blue jeans and running shoes, and waited for the verdict.

Sunday: Family Reunion Time?

Who: Santiago and Kaz
Where: Darkwater Rec Park
When: Early evening

Opening night had gone well-- if a bit frustratingly, for Santiago himself-- and after an afternoon of crunching numbers with his accountants, he was at least in a relatively good mood. While he knew he'd never make up the on-paper cost of Vapor's redecoration, he'd at least made a small dent, which pleased the accountants, at least. Santiago himself simply didn't care.

Now, hair tied back in a messy ponytail and dressed in loose trousers and a t-shirt, he was taking a break from "work" at the park. He would be getting back to Vapor a couple hours after it opened for the evening, but he didn't need to be there every hour it was open, right? Of course he didn't. That's what he had Amanda for.

Which was why he was out here playing basketball by himself on a Sunday evening. Or, perhaps more appropriately, just shooting hoops. He'd already cheated twice, bending the metal net just enough to let the ball sink in, but since he was playing by himself, who cared?

In which Santiago is whiny and Kaz is distant. )
