Wednesday - Skanky Ho Aftermath

Who: Jessica and Jordan
When: Evening
Where: Marina party

Jessica had to make a detour to her's and Jordan's car to utilize the visor mirror to fix her hair and check for breakage. Sure enough that bitch had actually broken some of her hair off. She cursed and muttered epithets while she did her best with the supplies from her purse and the car to fix her hair. She over processed it anyway, so the strands were weak, but it was Ava's fault for wanting to bitch fight and pull her hair first anyway. She muttered angrily to herself about how she should have set the bitch's head on fire. Luckily, though, she hadn't. There would be no denying she'd done it in that crowd. And while she could've blamed it on a palmed lighter... she didn't need that kind of trouble.

Wednesday: Afterparty Ups and Downs

Who: Cian and Ava
When: after the marina party
Where: in the car, then Ava's house

The party at the marina had been pretty cool, Cian thought. He'd talked to a bunch of people, done the whole social thing, hung with Ava... although she'd disappeared for a while during the party. He and M had gone looking for her, even, but they hadn't found her. Finally he and his best friend had reconnected, and once the party was pretty much over, they'd ridden the ferry back to Eldritch. Now Cian was driving her home and wondering if he should ask why she was so quiet. She hadn't had much to say during the ferry ride either; they'd sat in his car listening to music instead of getting out to stand at one of the railings because it had gotten really chilly.

He sneaked another glance at her and ventured, "So, did you have a good time?"

Wednesday: Marina-Trolling

Who: Santiago and OPEN
Where: The marina party!
When: Twilight-ish (no, not the book!!)

Today, Santiago stood out. But he didn't stand out quite as badly as if he were wearing a skirt. No, he was just all punked out today, with ripped jeans and chains and jewelry of various kinds, often with chains coming from them, and three layers of shirts, each with a different sleeve and hem length. Black and white only, with silvery eyeshadow, black lipstick, and streaks of platinum white in his long hair. The glance in the mirror on his way out the door had put him in mind almost of a mime, or perhaps the recent (to his mind) cult idol Edward Scissorhands. Santiago knew his hair looked much better, though.

All in all, he was getting plenty of looks, that was for sure, which was the plan. He was also bestowing charming smiles and flirty air-kisses and cheerful waves generously on everyone, chatting up anyone who would listen, quite firmly in the role of the punk who was definitely not dark, no matter how he looked.

Because he'd paid his five dollars, Santiago got himself some ice cream, and turned away from the vendor, scanning the crowd with interest. Who to hone in on next and make some conversation with?

Wednesday: Friends Don't Always Need to Talk

Who: Cian and M
Where: Sandpiper Marina, at the party
When: evening

Cian and Ava had, of course, come to the party together, but generally they didn't hang together every second when they went someplace. She'd gone off to the bathroom a short while ago and hadn't returned, so he figured she'd run into someone she wanted to talk to. Hopefully she hadn't gotten pissed at anyone and pushed them into the water, because he wanted to be present if she did that. He had to smile thinking about that late-night stoned (on his part, at least) conversation as he wandered along through the crowd.

He'd stopped here and there to talk to people, and he'd been halfway looking for Liam, just because it really hadn't been cool the way they'd left things. He didn't see the blond, and he guessed he probably wouldn't now that it had gotten dark. They'd have to talk some other time. He did, however, see one of the guys from the team who'd been at Darren's yesterday, and he worked his way over there. "Hey," he greeted him.

With a secret or two not talked about. )

Wednesday: Water Is Wet.

Who: Corwin and Cordelia
Where: The marina party
When: Sometime after the party is in full swing

The crowd was a little overwhelming, Corwin had to admit, but he had the lucky-- or perhaps not so lucky-- trait of being tall and scary-looking, so at least nobody really bumped into him much. Better than nothing, right? Even if it left him wanting to apologize to everyone who so much as looked at him.

As promised, he pretty much stuck by Cordelia's side all night, so far, except on the rare occasions she managed to sneak off to chat with someone else. Cordelia was familiar. Cordelia was safe. Cordelia, he hoped, put up with him.

Currently they were sharing beers by the actual dock part of the marina, after finishing off dinner. Corwin was sitting on a waist-high post at the edge of the water and watching the boats bob up and down with the waves.

"Wonder what it'd be like to live on a boat," he mused, seeing some with clothes hanging from lines and other signs of being obviously homes to people.

As poor Corwin finds out first-hand. )

Wednesday - Potential

Who: Emmanuel and Jordan
Where: Cafe
When: Wednesday Afternoon

Jordan had spent her day shopping with two of her friends, getting herself something new to wear to the party she was going to that night. They'd ended up at a cafe to wind down and hang out for a spell before heading home, talking animatedly about the upcoming party, boys, music, gossip and anything else that came to mind. After a while one had to go home so there was only the two of them there and then Jordan found herself alone. She really didn't feel like going home just to come right back an hour later or something, after all she'd planned to meet Jessica later that afternoon near by.

The boy's got it )

Wednesday: Booklovers of Both Kinds

Who: Rhiannon and Christian
When: 11 A.M.
Where: Booklovers'

Rhiannon, like almost always, was in a pretty quiet mood so she decided to head over to Booklovers' and see what she could find to bury her nose in. Heading in through the front door, she started at the shelves closest to it and began her search. Perhaps she'd find a diamond somewhere within the shelves.

Christian's mood was tense, but that was hardly unusual for a day when he was at work, when it was summer and more people than usual made it into the shop, whether for books, coffee, or just to read in the back. He wasn't in the middle of any episodes, at least, and he was safely drugged, though the one day off on Monday seemed to have left his brain a bit foggy now that he was back on. It made him even more tense, certain in his mild daze he would miss something important, and he kept searching the room every minute or two, to make sure nothing had slipped by him.

This time when he looked up, he actually jumped, because there was the back of a red-haired head in his line of sight. His book tumbled off the counter, and he swore softly in German.

Recommendations and Tiny White Mice. )

Wednesday: Cat Fight!

Who: Jessica and Ava
When: Early evening
Where: The marina
Warnings: strong language!

Ava was having fun, despite the barrage of thoughts coming from every direction once she and Cian had arrived at the marina. She'd stuck close to him for most of the evening, but one silent mind couldn't really make up for all of the other active brains she was unwittingly listening in on. After a few hours, Ava was getting hungry, so she pulled away from Cian when they found some of his other friends and made her way through the crowd to one of the hot dog stands. She spotted Liam on her way, but he was with some girl, so she thought it best not to approach him. It wasn't that she was jealous or anything, but that might not be the same for the other girl. And drama really wasn't Ava's thing, so she steered clear. Getting in line, Ava began to dig through her bag for her wallet, thinking a hot dog with mustard and ketchup would be aces. And Cian would probably want one too.

I get that you don't like burning bridges, but you and I never had a bridge to burn. )

Wednesday: Out of the Dark

Who: Ashley and Liam
Where: the marina, then Ashley's place
When: 7:30 p.m.
Warnings: NSFW

So far the party at Sandpiper Marina was excellent. Ashley and Liam had been there since the band had started playing at 6:30, and she'd been forcing the boy to dance with her. She'd been pleased when he'd agreed to come along with her to the party when she'd asked him the other day, and she had full intentions of dragging him to her apartment after; she figured he might be ready to go once it started getting dark out. Not that she was going to make a point of mentioning that or even acting like she remembered, but... yes.

She reached for his hand and reeled him in as they were moving to the music, getting him close enough so he could hear her. "Am I tirin' you out yet, cher?" she asked with a mischievous smile.

Wednesday - Ugh, Public

Who: Joel and Gwen
When: seven-ish
Where: the Marina

Joel had been aware that there was some sort of event going on at the Marina. He'd seen some ads for it, heard murmurings since he'd gotten back into town, but it hadn't really sunk in until he was out for his nightly walk and oh look. The Marina was filled with tons of people. It usually wasn't the sort of scene he would be caught dead in. But if he was going to watch Darkwater, he had to watch Darkwater. And what better way to do it than to mingle a bit with the locals. He promised himself that he didn't have to talk to anyone, and continued forward.

He got himself a hot dog and a soda and found a clear bench to sit on, far enough away so the band wasn't as blaring. It was a good spot to people-watch, and that was what Joel commenced doing, filling his mouth with food every once in a while.

Wednesday: Sandpiper Marina Event

Fortunately, the rain ceases overnight and by the time late afternoon arrives, skies are clear and temperatures hover around sixty-five degrees. It's windy down by the water, but then it usually is!

The open-air party at Sandpiper Marina begins at six o'clock sharp, and the sun won't set until around eight p.m. The local band Jezebel will perform in the open space between the marina's pub and restaurant beginning at six-thirty, and there will be plenty of space for dancing. Not far from the musical action, there will be stands where vendors will offer burgers, hot dogs and ice cream for a fixed price of five dollars. Jezebel will play until eight, take a thirty minute break and then return from eight-thirty until ten. The party is all-ages, providing a relatively safe event for teenagers and adults alike; however, as usual no one under 21 is allowed to enter the pub.

Time Update -- June 7 - June 10, 2009

Sunday, June 7th

  • The first day of the solstice cycle dawns clear and unseasonably warm. By 10 a.m., the sun is white-hot overhead and the temperature has already reached 80 degrees; by noon, a high of 84 will have been reached. It is also windy, as if a storm might be brewing, and on both the island and the mainland there are concerns about potential downed trees and powerlines by the time late afternoon arrives. After the sun goes down, the temperature will begin to decrease, reaching a low of 58 by midnight.

  • Tonight is the full moon beginning at approximately 6:12.

  • Beginning at 8:30 p.m., half of Darkwater loses power due to sustained damage from the high winds. The ferry station, the marina, the shopping and business district, Juicy Java and a large residential area are all affected. The electricity will not return until the wee hours.

Monday, June 8th

  • The skies are grey and ominous today, and the high temperature will only reach 65... a drastic change from yesterday. The wind has decreased, although there's brush and debris that need to be cleaned up in any areas that contain large trees. Cold Harbor Road and Foggy Branch Road are both partially blocked as they loop up into the hills. Rain is forecast, but none actually falls from the sky. The low for today will be 50 once darkness falls.

  • It's the first day of summer school at Darkwater Consolidated for those unfortunate souls who didn't pass the year or have to make up courses.

Tuesday, June 9th

  • The rain that everyone has been anticipating begins at about 5 a.m. It seems to be an isolated event; several miles up the coast, skies are partly cloudy and there is no precipitation at all. In the Darkwater/Eldritch Island area, however, it will pour steadily all day long with accompanying thunder and lightning. The high for today will reach 60 degrees, and the low will be 51.

  • A female driver in a gold Kia boards the Eldritch Island ferry for the trip to the mainland at 7 p.m. Nobody reports a disturbance, but once the ferry has reached the Darkwater station, the gold Kia is empty. Ferry employees check the restroom and anywhere else the woman could potentially be, but she is nowhere to be found. The vehicle is driven into the Darkwater ferry lot and parked, and the police are notified. The story of the strange disappearance will make the next morning's newspaper.

Wednesday, June 10th

  • The rain stops during the night, and Wednesday dawns partly cloudy with hints of sun that increase as the day wears on. Temperatures reach a high of 68 and it's moderately windy, though not nearly as much so as it was on Sunday. The sky is mostly clear by sunset, and the low temperature will be 57 degrees just before midnight.

  • The top story in the newspaper and on the local news stations is the disappearance of Claudia Ross, 28, of Eldritch Island from the ferry the previous day. There is much speculation about what might have happened to her, but there are no leads to be found as of yet. Another reported story is the grand reopening of Vapor, which was purchased by Santiago Asensio Baquero at the beginning of May and closed for remodeling three weeks ago. The club will open its doors once more on Saturday night at 6 p.m.

  • Tonight there will be an open-air party at Sandpiper Marina in Darkwater. The local band Jezebel will perform in the open space between the marina's pub and restaurant, and vendors will offer burgers, hot dogs and ice cream for a fixed price of five dollars. The party is all-ages; however, as usual no one under 21 is allowed to enter the pub.
