When the lights flickered, Mickey had gone looking for a flashlight. It took longer than he would have liked, but he did eventually find one, buried in his toolbox, pleased to see the batteries still worked. He set it within reach and went back to listening to the storm. There was a television he could turn on, but he hadn’t had cable in ages, the memories of watching endless daytime television in hospital waiting rooms too raw, even after all these years.

The second that warning went off, Mazie jumped into hypergear. She knew there was something odd about this place, something that she couldn’t put her finger on. First the no-leaving and then the gift basket and now this? She’d wanted to believe in the possibilities of this place so badly that she’d let it cloud her skepticism at first, but that naive hopefulness was way out the window now.

Answer me this.

Cause of this impending doom of a storm, and things shutting down left and right, does that mean we don't have to appear at our jobs? Or does this only imply to the software for brains?

Only curious here. Not like I don't want to work. Nudge nudge toward the boss man.

Mickey stormed back to his pod, pulling off his jacket and tossing it back on the couch. Then he went to the kitchen rummaging in cabinets until he found the first aid kit. He grabbed it tossing it on the counter angrily before shoving his arm under the faucet, spraying cool water on it. It stung, making him wince, but at least it took the sting out.

Despite the ultimate strangeness of this place, Mazie had gotten something she’d set out to acquire pretty quickly, and with a new acquaintance to boot. Wouldn’t Jayci be proud of her.

And with the present tucked under her arm, she made her way to her sister’s pod, poking around on her wrist communicator to try and bring up some sort of surely ill-fated call to Jayci on the way.

Jayci was half napping on the couch as ‘I Love Lucy’ played on the television. It seemed to spit out random shows, she found no real rhyme or reason to it, and it was fascinating. She was drifting when her wrist communicator thing buzzed and made some jingle sound, which scared the shit out of her and she jumped up. It took her a second to catch up to current events, and she eyed her wrist. She saw there was a prompt to answer, and so she did, seeing some grainy image of her sister. “Hello?” she said, sounding sleepy and a bit confused. “Maze?”

Setting: Ramen Stand, Restaurant area of the city

Jayci had not been even kind of prepared for what wound up being the reality of this place. It was insane. Literally insane. It was also the best, most interesting place she’d ever been in her life, so that was cool, but still, it was nuts! She didn’t officially start work until Monday, so she was spending time wandering around. She’d gone to the place with the restaurants and all that noise.

She’d gone to a small ramen stand, and tried to place an order, but the automaton behind the counter seemed to be glitching. So, in true Jayci fashion, she hopped the counter and started looking it over, to see if she could fix it. She didn’t have proper tools at the moment, but she used what was lying around, and she had the back of it open, as she tried to get it’s gears to thread right.

It was officially the coolest day ever.
