Having tried them, I can say that the washing machine and tumble dryer are two of humanity's greatest inventions. They're no good for woollens, but even so, they've saved immense amounts of time, since I'm doing the laundry for eight people.

Are there any other inventions I should know about?

Also, if anyone needs overnight childcare so that they can attend the evening Valentine's Ball, I'd like to offer to help. We're staying in a hotel here, and I think for this purpose I'll set up one big room for the boys and another for the girls, with me sleeping in an adjacent room in-between so that I'll wake if anyone needs me. It's probably best that I don't take anyone under five or so, because they'll need more individual attention than I can give, but if you've got an older child who won't mind sharing with others, I'd be happy to have them stay over for supper and sleep.

[Everyone is sent a link to this - it's web page style, more static than the regular network posts]

In the village of Privkat, before the dark times, the elders would teach the young people about magic. They learned how to shape it, and how to use it. By the time I arrived there, the practice had stopped. The magic we learnt was in secret, and was limited, and then there was none at all. I missed this part of learning. I see that there are many here with many types of magic.

This is what I propose. Once every seven days, on your Sunday for felicity, at [big open space on the station] we will gather and at least one among our number will tell the others about their magic. We will sit in a great circle and listen, as we would in Privkat.

Who is willing to take a turn? You do not have to be an elder, and it does not matter if nobody else here has the same talents that you do. You can demonstrate something practical and teach it to others who can learn, or you can tell us about the origins of your magic and how it works, or tell us about the history of your people and what magic has meant to them.

Everyone is welcome to join us and to listen, so long as they are respectful of others.

If you would like to speak more than once, and teach us different things, you can. If you would like a regular time to teach, you can have that. If you are interested, please tell me your name and each topic you would like to share with us, and I will organise the meetings accordingly.

I'm just going to come out and ask this. How is everyone else not awed by the fact that there are gods - literal gods - on the station with us?

I have worshipped at many altars, and the way I came to understand it was that the gods were beyond us and that when I prayed on the eve of battle, the Lady of War did not mind if I called to her as Inanna or as Venus or Freyja or Saint Joan. The same with all the other gods and goddesses in their own domains.

Now I hear that Thor and Loki are here. Does that mean that countless other peoples were wrong, and the Norsemen right?

[Backdated to early December, in reference to this.]

Is there a festival-day approaching? It all looks very cheerful. We used to decorate the city for the Elemental Days, before the war. It reminds me of that, although it's not really the same. I didn't know that there was an official faith of the Station.

It's going to snow soon.

Somehow. In space.

Hello space comrades.

Tommy has got me very well up to speed (thank you for that) so I thought I should introduce myself now that I'm more convinced I'm really here to stay and this isn't a trap

I'm Robert Langdon, human, 2021, which are details I would've never thought needed to be clarified.
