link trigger warning: gross body lesion stuff

Ah. Well. Another rare human cowpox case. It's not at all surprising that along with measles and smallpox, this one would crop up as well. At least it's not as severe as other illnesses that our unfortunate stubborn members of this society have brought because of their ignorance and refusal to see the truth that's right in bloody front of them.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Fort Neill is officially off the grid, running on clean energy, thanks to one brand new, bouncing, baby Stark Energy Reactor. You're welcome.

The switchover happened about a week ago, but Tony and I have spent the last few days monitoring for any interference or overall bad juju caused by the portal. As of this afternoon, we've given ourselves the green light.

Feel free to send any problems you may encounter our way. But there won't be any.

How's the arm holding up? Any adjustments needed?

From what I’ve been able to learn:

  • 1953: Officially: meteor shower incident, Unofficially: that’s when giant metal pods fell out of the sky.

Also during this time the military set up shop, ⅓ of the Tumbleweed population died of some sort of contagion (otherwise known as water with lethal levels of lead in it). After that there have been various gas leaks every few years or so, varied reports of wild dogs taking to the streets once a month, gangs on PCP attacking every now and then, and the town undergoing quarantine or evacuation a few times over the years.

  • May 1962: town under quarantine for a month (said to be because of algae in the newly networked water supply)
  • January 1976: town evacuated for a week (train crash dumped toxic waste in the area that needed to be cleaned up)
  • October 1979: town evacuated for a week (toxic fumes coming from the new sewer system)
  • December 1985: town under quarantine (deadly strain of the flu)
  • September 1999: Local high school blown up by gas leak
  • December 1999: town evacuated again (truck crash outside of town dumped toxic waste into the streets and water supply). Was evacuated for two months. This corresponds with the attack on the base.

I’m not entirely sure what the real story is behind each of those incidents but if the military kept records (which its the military, they should have) there should be more information related to those incidents and what the actual threat was to the town at the time.

Working shifts at the fort has been quieter than I expected. I end up spending most of my time cleaning up and trying to make the place look even remotely hospitable. Hope that's alright with the rest of you who work the ward there. Medicine in this time is so primitive, I'm not even sure how you all practice.

I'm thinking of seeing about taking on some shifts at the hospital as well, though I'd probably come into contact with actual patients there. That's the one downside to practicing medicine.

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who helped during these last few weeks while the Resettlement Bureau was getting on its feet. The primary goal of the organization is simple: greet new arrivals and set them up with what they'll need to get on their feet here. That means paperwork, helping them acclimate to Tumbleweed and Earth, finding their housing. The secondary goal is to study the portal, to see if there is a way we can figure out its agenda, where it came from, how to stop certain creatures from coming through or at the least, being prepared when they do.

These are now paid positions. If you were volunteering before, just come see me if you want to transition to paid.

You can see how outlook and agenda here.

Our open positions are as follows, and yes, they do come with health benefits. [OOC NOTE: If you are on here in a position, you'll need to comment here to get the ball ICly rolling, please!]

    TONY STARKS:
Tiny, I wanted to thank you for establishing the food bank. I'd like to work directly with you to help those who first arrive who won't have a paycheck for a week or so. The Resettlement Bureau can help, but you've already got that in place and it would help foster relations with others. Do you have plans to make it an actual charity?

Tony (and Tiny), any ideas on a time frame for the reactor?

Since Bones tells me this isn't an extended vacation and that I should get a job, let me ask this: any jobs out there for displaced starship captains?

Yeah yeah I know there was some talk of jobs right when we got back here in Texas, but I was still too new. Also, I didn't want to get a job. I still don't. But - I'm erring on the side of doing what my doctor ordered.

I don't remember getting in the lifeb

    Did Flynn spike my beer

This makes no sense. If time was changed, then I shouldn't remember

So I get different dimensions. Alternate timelines. I remember the — portal. Blue light, getting shoved out of it into a hallway.

Is there some sort of point to all of this? Are we working on getting back to our timelines? Has anyone heard of Rittenh

    post-dated to Monday, April 9th at 9am.

We're back in Tumbleweed, but as some of you may have figured out, the town is completely different than it was the last time we were here. There's an airport now, which my car navigation system pointed out, and it's on the opposite side of town from Fort Neill.

Of course, that's not the most startling or disturbing difference. Fort Neill is a graveyard, and I mean that in the kindest sense of the world. It was locked up when I got there. Got my way in to find a dusty military facility that has not been used in quite some time, and it looks like it didn't happen on purpose.

The military is dead, and I don't mean they cleared out. I mean there is an entire facility full of the skeletal remains of whoever was in there when something happened. That something appears to have been some sort of [...] feeding, possible animal attack. There are definite teeth marks on these bones, and the state of decomposure... it's not new. At least a decade, maybe more so it's not as horrendous as it could be to see.

I have not turned the power on; I don't want to disturb the bodies more than I already have, but I'd like for anyone interested in helping to come down to the facility to move these bodies — telekinesis, magic, or just standard issue gloves — so that we don't taint the bodies with our DNA. We'll have to keep the power off until that happens, and then there should be video monitoring we can check to see what happened, check databases and logs to see if there's any evidence of what might have happened here.

I'm leaving this open so we can discuss what to do. After scrounging around the base, I haven't seen any paperwork or IDs for those of you who arrived on the cruise so that's something we should work on immediately to get people in the system so they can work, get IDs, and whatever else they need. We'll need people who can make IDs and people who can get into the necessary systems for government agencies to make sure the back-end is taken care of in anyone wants to cross state or country lines.

And a warning to some of you who worked at the military before: yes, we knew some of these people if the names on the uniforms check out.

What the hell is going on?

When I said I might take a vacation, this wasn't what I had in mind. Not that I'm complaining.

Does anyone have a swimsuit I can borrow? ... Or is there a nude beach somewhere?

Name's Jim Kirk, by the way.
