Stating the obvious aside: we've made another jump. Some of you remember (and would like to forget) the Prettiest Star space cruise ship. This one is on water this time. From what I can tell, it's a luxury cruise ship. Most of what I've seen seems familiar to cruise ships on Earth, but who knows so make sure you're careful until we know exactly what we're dealing with.

Harry offered to help teach me if I wanted. I thought I should ask before I began lessons with someone else, but it's been helpful to have more than one teacher sometimes.

I don't have any room to talk bu I didn't like the creatures, but I do feel a bit sorry for them. The way they change so radically and without seemingly any control over it. It would make for a very disconcerting existence.

We've taken hundreds of photographs already but Helena was adamant that we share this one with "everyone at home." Gramps, she wanted you to see it in particular. She said you'd love it. I guess she thinks you like elephants? Have you two discussed elephants at any point?

I'm afraid I got lost inside my own head for the past two days with the new art gallery in town. How delightfully exciting that it is also free. I got so lost in this wonderful art that I have fully neglected to tell you that the town now has a fully operational theatre that will be used for all forthcoming theatrical productions brought forth by the school.

I also think it important for students and community members to learn side-by-side. For such a reason, we will continue to open up the theatrical productions to the town at large. I hope you're looking forward to the next.

Hey, so, you know you're back in your accepted proper time when your daughter makes you snap out of sleep in a panic because she's got Disney Channel turned up so loud that the walls shake. Good times.

But I was so happy to be in our apartment that I couldn't even be made. We made pancakes and curled up on the sofa to watch Sofia the First. Did you all know that there is such a thing as a Princess Ballet? Evidently you don't just dance with your arms and legs but "with a joyful heart." I may have paid way too much attention just out of relief to be on my couch at all.

Here is one thing about Tumbleweed in this year I never thought I'd say, but here is the truth of it - when the dust storms pass, the stars? They remind me of the stars I could see in France. Not as a girl, but as a woman grown from the window of a certain tower.

In the midst of everything wrong, I choose to see this as one thing that is a comfort, and a thing that is set to the positive, if we're all keeping track.

We got shelter, water, security and clothing covered. Our priority now needs to be figuring out food.

How have the hunting trips been going? Is that gonna be sustainable?

What's the best sorts of foods to be getting up here that we can easily store and cook with? How are we gonna handle any special dietary needs? From what I remember Texas was in a big old drought at this time. The less we go taking from the people in this area the better probably.

Black social history was part of my Masters so I should be able to give a good overview of what shit's gonna be like in 1953. I'd say get a snack and a cup of tea, but I guess MREs and water will have to do.

Honestly, the best thing we can do is establish ourselves outside the town. We want to be considered separate and in charge of our own affairs. Even those of us who look acceptable aren't going to know the nuances of social conventions and suspicion of anyone different in a small rural town in Texas is going to be bad, especially with resources scarce. But we probably will have some contact with them, so anyone who's worried can come find me and I'll try to help you out. If anyone else specifically studied this time period it would be great if you could speak up too.


Apart from that I'm good for patrols, helping to build things, scouting, whatever. I might be able to do up a map of where the birds are finding water in the area, but I can't promise it will be helpful for this many people.
