FAO anyone who has come down with the flu-

If you are otherwise fit and healthy, there is usually no need to see a doctor if you have flu-like symptoms.

The best remedy is to rest at home, keep warm and drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

You can take paracetamol or ibuprofen, to lower a high temperature and relieve aches.

However, please let me or another member of the medical team know if you have flu-like symptoms and you:

- Are pregnant
- Have a long-term medical condition such as diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, kidney or neurological disease
- Have a weakened immune system
- Have a child under 5 with the symptoms.

This is because flu can be more serious for certain groups, and we may want to prescribe antiviral medication. Antiviral medicine can lessen the symptoms of flu and shorten its duration, but does not cure it. We can't give you any antibiotics because flu is caused by a virus and not bacteria.

Of course, if there is any question you need answered, if you need some advice, or you feel that you are experiencing a complication to the flu, do not hesitate to contact us. Better safe than sorry, I just don't want anyone to panic. These things usually last no more than a week.
