Since the Doctor (Eyebrows, not Hair) opted not to suggest an Agatha Christie novel, I've decided to leave her off the summer reading list. Without further ado, here's the list. These are for extra credit come fall, but I think you'll actually like the books I've selected enough to want to read them on your own. Two of them are highly acclaimed graphic novels, including one by Emil Ferris. That book has been a long time coming. First, she contracted West Nile virus which left her paralyzed. She ended up having to re-learn how to draw with a pen in her mouth. While she recovered from that, the book then got stuck in the Panama Canal when her publisher went bankrupt. Highly, highly recommended.

If you're not one of my students but still want to read them, you're more than welcome to. I wouldn't mind doing a book club over the summer with them if anyone was interested.

I read a flyer that said a carnival's coming to town, and the first thing that came to my mind was a novel by Ray Bradbury.

So, basically if the carnival's run by a man named Mr Dark, who promises to fulfill your secret desires, then stay the hell away.

How are you coping? The lack of heartbeat took me some time to adjust to. The feeling of it in your chest, the rush of blood through your ears... You don't really think about it until it's gone and then everything just feels ... empty.

I try to fill it with as much talking or music as I can. Something to keep me from thinking about it. I hope that helps.

Weevils in the streets a few blocks from Fort Neill. Watch out for humanoids in dark blue boiler suits, bald, flattened wrinkled faces with very sharp teeth. They're stronger and faster than humans and can take a few bullets but they can also be taken down with tasers and a spray we formulated back home which I have a few cans of. They usually live in sewers and aren't actively aggressive unless disturbed, but they're not suited for bright light and will be disoriented and lashing out. If we can round them up or restrain them we can hold them until we find somewhere they won't bother anyone.

And if one cuts or bites you, you will need a course of antibiotics.

I am so glad that I signed up for schooling here. I can already tell I'm going to get incredibly bored without it. I'm not much of a drinker so "everywhere is also a bar" is a bit of a bummer for me. The library's a bit small, but it'll work, I think. Wish you could borrow books on a Kindle or something because I imagine I'm going to get bored with those books too. The downside of not needing to sleep.

The main restaurant, the theatre we arrived in, a music hall, a couple of boutiques that sell clothes and toiletries and the like, and a casino.

Deck 6:
The concierge, lifeboats, bar/music hall, two cafes, and a restaurant.

Deck 11:
Two more restaurants, day care and school, a small library, and a spa facility.

Deck 12:
The big pool, several small bars, grills, a buffet, a cigar place, a kitchen hosting cooking lessons, another library, a games room, and movie screens.

All kinds of fitness things.

1-4 and 7-10 are all accommodation, it looks like. Medical's right down the bottom.

Scott and I were given an informational packet about how the school system apparently works on the ship. Anyone 17 and younger is required to attend school, Monday to Friday, 9am-1pm, unless we are docked at a port.

This is basically what EPS has been trained for, but I know we got a number of others who teach or might want the opportunity to do so. If you would like to help out with making sure all the kids here can get a quality education, please respond here with what you're willing to teach and we'll get you on our roster and set up with everything.

I'm gonna ask all EPS teachers to respond to this too, to ensure we're all accounted for.

Stating the obvious aside: we've made another jump. Some of you remember (and would like to forget) the Prettiest Star space cruise ship. This one is on water this time. From what I can tell, it's a luxury cruise ship. Most of what I've seen seems familiar to cruise ships on Earth, but who knows so make sure you're careful until we know exactly what we're dealing with.

Helena is under the impression that we are having a Thanksgiving dinner. I picked her up from school today and overheard her telling one of her chums that she was so excited because "everyone is in town."

We need to pull together a Thanksgiving dinner. My child has expectations and I don't have the heart to tell her 'no.'

I've done some research and there seems to be a few restaurants that cater for Thanksgiving. I need to call them as soon as possible with a headcount so [...] this is me asking for a headcount.

And praying we can fit everyone into my flat. We'll expand out the dining room, of course, and it should be fine.

We've been invited to a Thanksgiving dinner. Or rather I've been invited, and you losers are coming with me. 'No' is not an option.

We've been asked to bring a ham, but I think we can do even better than that. There's a bunch of us, so it's only fair we bring other stuff to share. I've never done Thanksgiving before, but I reckon it's got to be like Christmas dinner, so let's see - drinks, roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts, bread, more drinks.

I may have just found some of the most unnecessarily disturbing GIFs the internet has to offer, thoughtfully mixed in with several legitimately neat ones just to fully highlight the unnervingness.

I am terribly sorry for the trauma the bonfire caused. I had not anticipated that the little creatures would find themselves drawn to a fire when they were so scared of bright lights. I suppose the darkness surrounding it was enticing enough.

Perhaps some of my students could use it as the basis of a horror story for next year's Spooky Tales.

Hey Clara? Thanks for organizing the Bonfire night fun. Sorry the gremlins managed to ruin the fun, but at least we all got it sorted out. I wasn't expecting them to actually be that fast, but those teeth were nearly as bad as a Weevil!

I miss my little guys though. They might've been mischievous little fuzzballs, but they were cute and fun to keep an eye on.
