Day 12.Weather: Shortly after four AM the skies unleash hell. One minute, chilly and damp, the next, torrential downpour. It doesn’t let up. There’s a great deal of thunder and lightning through-out the day and night as well.
Events: At about 8 AM, everyone will get a message on their computers. It reads:
We have added four new subjects to the house: Walter, Avram, Juliet, and Victoria. Welcome them however you see fit.
Today we require that each of you answers the following question: What do you miss the most about home?
...Wait, that’s it? Really, really it? No mention of yesterday’s ‘endurance tests’ - or the promised rewards? Nope. Nadda. That’s really it. Well, that’s all there is in the message at least. There’s more to the day than just a few additions and a stupid question.
But first, about those additions. Each of the four new subjects will begin to wake up around 8 AM, in conditions quite similar to those of
day 1. The groggy feeling, the slow grasp of awareness, the IV, the hospital gowns, the box of clothing. They will also be incapable of leaving their rooms without checking their computers first, much like
on day 2. Until each person sets up their network account and makes a post, their doors won’t open.
But that door thing is universal today. No one is going to be able to leave their room until answering that
stupid question, ‘What do you miss the most about home?’ After closing the message, a prompt comes up on the network - and it won’t go away until an answer is posted.
Okay. Big deal, right? That’s happened before. Putting four new people in the house without anyone hearing or seeing anything, that’s a good deal more alarming, but still not
entirely unheard of here. All of the removals or additions that have happened so far have gone down this way. ‘So hey,’ you might wonder, ‘is anything new happening today?’
Why, yes. Yes, there is. Thank you
so much for asking.
Also starting at 8 AM, temperatures in the house are going to rise - and rather rapidly, at that. By nine AM, the temperature inside of the house in any room will be around 78 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit. There are thermostats in the house, but adjusting them isn’t going to do any good. By noon, temperatures are ranging around 85 - 90 degrees. You’d think that simply opening a window would be the solution here, but that’s just a bit
too easy. Basically, The Powers That Be are controlling the temperatures in every room. If you open the window, they’re just going to crank up the heat in that room higher to even it out.
So, yeah. That should be fun. With it raining so hard outside, it’s not like going for a dip in the pool to calm down is a great option. You
can go outside, if you really want to, but the weather is terrible, and you’re really only jumping from one extreme to another. After a few minutes in that rain, you’ll be freezing.
Oh. And last but
certainly not least… remember how TPTB promised people might be rewarded after those endurance tests?
Any character that just ‘coasted’ on the tests, did the minimum required of them without getting punished, as well as any character that at any point refused to cooperate (even if only briefly)... these characters don’t have access to cold running water in their bathrooms. In fact, in the public baths and even the kitchen, it won’t be possible to
get cold water from a tap. Bottled water is still in the fridge, but good luck cooling off with a cold shower. Unless you’ve got a sympathetic friend, that is.
Newbies? You don’t have any cold water, either. Super sorry about that. Trial by fire. You understand.
