Day 64.

Weather: The great part about living in a fallout bunker is that it really doesn't matter. Fiery death from above? Second ice age? Who knows! Who cares!

Events: Okay, let's get something out of the way. No one expected this little game to run smoothly without any meddling from them, right? Nobody. Not anybody. So glad we got that out of the way, and that no one will be terribly surprised with what's to come.

At 5 AM, Owen, Oliver, Erran, Jack, and Felix all receive a message from TPTB on the network wireless. It reads:

NEWS BRIEF: At 0200 hours, community known as C38 under medical quarantine. All exports of goods have stopped. As C38 was your community's primary source of meat and animal products, import of these goods into C39 has become much more expensive. Your export quotas of fresh fruits and vegetables have also risen considerably. Until such a time that C38 is operational again, prices of fresh produce in C39 will raise considerably. All fresh meat prices will rise, with an additional $0.75 added to current prices. Animal products including milk and eggs will raise $0.60. Fresh fruits and vegetables will raise $0.50. All changes effective immediately and until further notice. Local vendors are under orders to update their prices.

This same 'news briefing' will be playing on radios and scrolling on TV programming intermittently through-out the day.

Okay. So. That sucks. No doubt about it, it's definitely going to make things more uncomfortable for the lower class, but it may not be entirely unexpected. Everyone was warned that the lower classes would have a much more difficult time affording anything fresh, and this really drives that point home. It's awful, but the subjects may have mentally prepared themselves for this sort of thing somehow, if they were either lucky enough or cynical enough. The one thing you can always count on in Mount Zenith is that things are going to be hard, and TPTB are going to screw you over at the first available opportunity, right? No surprises there.

But you know TPTB, and they do so hate to ever become entirely predictable. They just can't seem to resist attempting to surprise even the MZ old-timers. At 2 PM, exactly thirty hours after first waking up in C39, everyone receives a message from TPTB on the 'wireless.'

Greetings.

We are both surprised and impressed by the level of commitment displayed by the majority of the group. We had always anticipated that at least one of you would refuse to play this game, and we do so admit now that we were wrong to expect as much. Though the setting and rules of the game do anger some of you, and rightfully so, each and every one of you has displayed a willingness to at least try your best, and not make things any more difficult for those more committed to the game. You are now thirty hours into the game, and at this point some of you are nearing 30,000 points.

Because of this we have decided to add additional prizes and rewards to the pool. Along with all possible prizes and rewards listed yesterday, effective immediately we have added:

Wild Card. COST: 75,000 pts. *TWO AVAILABLE*
A reward of your choice, to be redeemed whenever you see fit. By playing the wild card, you may request whatever reward you feel you most need in Mount Zenith at any time, with few exceptions. While we will not allow any contact with the outside world, we will negotiate terms of agreement with whoever wins and plays their wild card. If the individual playing the wild card requests something we are not willing to give, we will offer a compromise for a starting point of negotiations. If agreeable terms are not met, the individual retains their wild card to use on something else. Wild cards may not be given to other players. May not be used on any other item or service already up for play - ie: snow removal.

Get Out of Jail Free Card. COST: 75,000 pts. *TWO AVAILABLE*
A card granting full exemption from any one future punishment. No exceptions. May be played at any time. May be traded or given to other subjects.

Oh. Oh. Well. That's... arguably a pretty huge dick move. Like they said, it's already 30 hours into the game, and some have been playing harder than others. Both of these new options are also more expensive than the previous top prize. So playing for one of those things at this point is going to require absolute commitment - no breaking character, no breaking the fourth wall. It also may mean a decision between taking this bit of unknown temptation over something the group as a whole legitimately needs.

PLAYER NOTE: As the second event doesn't take place until much later in the day, please keep in mind that everyone plays at a different pace. Immediately jumping to network reactions timed past 2 PM will result in fewer participants, as some players may prefer to play scenes that take place earlier in the day first. Please keep this in mind and remember to play ahead at your own risk. ♥
