Day 66.Weather: Phhhhhhbt.
Events: At 7 AM, everyone gets a message from TPTB. It reads:
As of this morning, eight prizes have been claimed.
Oliver has claimed the handicapped access to the mansion.
August has claimed the renovated kitchen.
Theo has claimed material goods for herself.
Edwin has claimed the room renovations for himself.
Jim has claimed road maintenance.
Kiley has claimed the new shop in Mount Zenith.
Chase has claimed the laptop for himself.
These rewards are no longer available to other players.
At 9 AM, there is going to be a trial in the courthouse at City Hall. Here, Scott Simms will be tried for his alleged crime against Juno Vasquez. Attendance to this trial is mandatory to every citizen.
As there are no lawyers in C39, we will be accepting volunteers to step forward and speak as the prosecution, and in defense of Scott Simms. If no one volunteers to serve as his defense, he may do so himself. Should someone volunteer, they are entitled to speak privately with him until the beginning of the trial.
A member of the city council must volunteer themselves as a judge. It will be this person’s duty to keep things on track, and discipline speaking out of turn.
This case will be heard by a jury. We have selected the following citizens to serve as jurors: Theodora Mercier, Marisa Santiago, Rae Greer, August Williams, Kai Ciin, Gemma Serfaty, Daniel Ciin, Kristoph Rietsveld, and Reginald Woodward.
Attendance to this trial is mandatory. Those who are not in the courtroom at 9 AM will be punished.
If found guilty, Scott Simms and his wife will be removed from C39.
Sure enough, anyone
not in the courtroom when the clock hits 9 AM will be zapped via the implant in the back of their neck. This will keep happening every two minutes until they’re finally inside. However, at 9 AM, if every citizen is inside the courtroom, all doors and windows
lock, and there’s no way out. There’s nothing for it but to play pretend courtroom drama. Or, not so pretend.
Whoever is serving as prosecution and defense will stop losing points if they break character -- for example, if they talk about things that very obviously could not have occurred in C39, but no one loses points for hearing it. Same goes for any witnesses called to speak. It could feasibly be done to hold the entire trial without noticeably breaking character, or at least without doing so for longer than 60 seconds at a time.
Whoever volunteers to serve as judge will find simple instructions waiting for them at the judge’s desk. It reads that he alone has the power to call an end to the trial and ask the jury to render a verdict. When he does this, a door to a small conference room will unlock for the jury to use for deliberations. If Simms is found guilty, the judge has instructions to see that he and his wife are detained in jail.
And… that’s it. No huge surprises, no dirty tricks played. It’s just a make believe trial, for seemingly no reason other than upsetting a few people and see how the group reacts. How lovely.
