TIME UPDATE

Day 94.

Weather: Second verse, same as the first!

Events: Anyone hoping to wake up safe(ish) in their bed in Mount Zenith shall be sorely disappointed. Anyone thinking TPTB might chime in and admonish Simms' cruelty will likewise be disappointed. It's all quiet today... unless, of course, you're counting the screams of Simms' chosen victims. In which case, no. Not quiet at all.

In fact, if you are counting those screams... you may just want to curl up in the fetal position and make peace with your chosen deity. At about six AM, there's a sort of clunk sound in the ventilation system, a tiny vent in each cell's ceiling slides open, and the heat turns on (it was not on yesterday, though it was by no means cold for anyone not hit by the firehouse). After that moment, it is possible to faintly hear random things happening in other rooms and cellblocks. It's all kind of muffled and quiet, and it's not possible to use the vents to communicate. But if someone is screaming? Yeah. Everyone's going to hear that, loud and clear. Enjoy.

Finally, Levi will receive a message around the same time. It reads:

“You are now a participant of Experiment B. In a false bottom of your top desk drawer back at the mansion you will find an earbud/USB cord. Plugging the cord into your computer will automatically lock your door and launch the ExB logon. Log on with your subject numbers, password: goldenapple. The ExB program will grant you access to every camera feed in Mount Zenith, as well as reading access on all messaging on the network - even private messages. You will also be able to access this program on your phone.

As of now, the following subjects are participants of Experiment B: Daphne, Felix, Audrey, and Simms. You may discuss your privileges and strategies amongst each other, but remember: do not discuss Experiment B with anyone else.

Good luck.”

TIME UPDATE

Day 93.

Weather: Hahahaha. Hahaha. Haaa... fuck.

Events: Regardless of intentions, everyone slept last night. And no one wakes up in a place or even in clothing overly familiar to them. Except, perhaps, for Lena.

Everyone wakes up on the bunk within a small jail cell. Each cell has two bunks (a top and a bottom), and a small rimless toilet with a sink on the back. Every subject is wearing a set of orange prison coveralls with a white tanktop and underwear underneath, and white rubber sandals on their feet. Everyone except for Simms, that is. Simms wakes up in a bedroom practically identical to the one he had back at the mansion before being locked up. The only differences are the views out the windows (which are pre-recorded and random nature loops from around the world), and the spiral staircase in the center of the bedroom. Simms is wearing his old cop uniform, with a 'head of security' badge pinned to his chest. Simms is free to roam their new surroundings, while everyone else is not. Welcome to opposite day, children. Sorry, you're fucked.

Simms, of course, has access to his computer in his bedroom. Every other inmate subject will find their smart-phone with network access in one of the pockets of their prison jumpsuits.

The inmates and Simms subjects will wake at 5 AM on the dot, with absolutely no grogginess or disorientation. At 5:04, everyone gets a message from TPTB. Those who receive this message on smart-phones will be alerted to the message by a loud beeping and vibration. The message reads:

"Greetings.

For the past 45 days, the subject known as Simms has been incarcerated. We have watched you as a group struggle with the idea of caring for him. Some of you have questioned whether or not you had the right to do anything at all, while some of you have seemed more than content to let the responsibility fall to someone else's shoulders and not trouble yourself with the unpleasant details. At our suggestion a trial was later held, and it was again agreed upon that Simms was guilty of a crime worthy of incarceration.

We will not say whether or not this decision was right or wrong. Indeed, in this situation it may be argued that there
is no right or wrong. Each of you has done, we believe, as you saw best. Some of you were more concerned with treating him humanely, while some of you saw temptation in the idea of becoming judge, juror, and executioner.

We admit, over the past 45 days, we have grown increasingly curious with the idea of how Simms would behave if the tables were turned.

And now they are."

That's it. That's it. It ends on what must be agreed to be a very ominous note. What the fuck does that mean? They can't possibly mean that they're putting Simms in charge of all of their lives, can they?

Oh, yes, they can.

When Simms' chooses to follow the spiral staircase downstairs, he will first come into a rather plain room with a single set of bunk-beds, an additional bathroom, and a few lockers with extra uniforms. If he takes the spiral staircase down another level, he will find himself in the station. The station is a much larger set of rooms than the ones above, with a few benches, and a large desk with a computer. Above the desk is a wall of monitors, each showing the surveillance feed from one of the cells. Against the wall there are two doors, labeled respectively 'INTERROGATION ROOM A' and 'INTERROGATION ROOM B'. There is also a very large supply closet. Inside is a wide variety of things, from cell keys to extra linens and towels to sets of handcuffs, mace, and even a firehose. For emergencies, of course.

There is one more level, a bottom level below the station. This is a rather large kitchen. The fridge and cupboards are well stocked with anything Simms could want. What's more, coming out of one of the walls is a small conveyor belt that will provide very simple meal trays for his prisoners at 7 AM, noon, and 5 PM. If he elects to give them to his charges, of course. It's worth noting that subjects on daily medications will find their meds on their food trays.

Back in the station, there are four doors - one on each wall - each leading to a separate cell block. The doors can only be opened with the set of keys in the supply closet.

Those in the cells are capable of seeing into the cell directly across theirs, but no more. The cellblocks are by no means soundproofed, so shouts and screams will certainly carry within each block, but unless Simms leaves the cellblock doors open, voices will not carry through the station and into different blocks.

Buuut wait, there's more! After everyone's had a decent amount of time to truly digest and understand their situation, at 6 AM, everyone receives yet another message from TPTB.

"At 3 PM, Simms will be granted the power to grant freedom to two inmates, and deputize them as his helpers. He may choose however he sees fit. If they do not follow his orders, the privilege may be revoked, and the subject may be re-incarcerated."

And now, just one more thing. Immediately following that message, Levi gets another one - however, this one has no notification sound or vibration. It simply appears on his phone. It reads:

"Greetings,

Everyone is here for a reason. Each person in Mount Zenith was taken because they are of special value to our needs. Among our group of subjects, we have selected you for participation in a side experiment. This group, at this time made up of only an elite few, is known as Experiment B. Each of you has a special quality that suits our needs. We will have special requirements expected of you, but we believe you will find meeting those standards to be an enjoyable experience - one which you shall be compensated for.

Our terms are simple. We require that you create tension within the house. How you do this is up to you. Should you choose to openly sow discord, or quietly identify and exploit weaknesses, you may employ any strategy you see fit. In return, we will supply you with special information. We will grant you private access to the camera feeds, as well as the ability to read private messages between the other subjects. If necessary, we will even offer you special luxuries in payment for your services.

Our primary demand: you must not discuss Experiment B with anyone outside of the group. If you tell anyone of this arrangement, all privileges will be revoked and we can personally guarantee you will never see your homes or families again. Breaking this commandment will result in the swiftest and severest punishment we have to offer.

We have one final requirement. At lunch time, you will be given an apple. If you understand and accept these terms, do not eat it. If that is done and you keep your silence, we will grant you the privileges spoken of earlier."

TIME UPDATE

Day 92.

Weather: Things are starting to calm down. It's still a little windy, and cold as hell, but better than yesterday.

Events: Everybody is locked in their room when they wake up. As per usual, their computer is blinking, and the door opens once they answer today's prompt.

What smell do you associate with your childhood?

Everyone has to submit some answer. It doesn't have to be truthful, but something needs to be put on the network.

If anyone submits a bullshit answer or something triggering, that's going to be unfortunate. Throughout the day, the scents submitted will be pumped into the house at random. And no, they won't be specific to each person. Lena might smell the scent that Oliver submitted, while he might smell the scent that Juno submitted. You better hope that everyone submitted Fresh Laundry.
