You know, there's a psychedelic drug, DMT, that occurs naturally in some plants. Rick Strassman, a professor of psychiatry at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, observed in a study from 1990 to 1995 that people had near-death and mystical experiences following injection of DMT. According to Strassman, the body has natural DMT released at birth and death.

Now, there's no evidence that really supports or disproves this theory.

But I mean, it would explain this.

Sometime around midnightish, the wind picks up. The air starts to carry the strong smell of a storm and even in a desert, the skies feel heavy, like they might rain at any moment.

Several crackling, bright flashes of lightning hit the ground and more flickers through the air, sound of thunder crashing through with them.

And then there's a much more literal crash as someone really, really heavy falls out of the sky and through Laurel Lance's apartment's roof. Her coffee table is smashed by an axe. Her TV is smushed by a god. It would have been more polite to knock probably.
