This week I'm starting a sandwich of the week at Crumbs. Limited edition sandwiches (or similar) that might make it onto the main menu if they turn out to be popular.

This week (available until Saturday): tomato and basil chicken with homemade mayonnaise.

How are we still only middle of the pack? Fucking hell we're better than this. All this hard work, the summer of planning, it isn't paying off. What is going wrong? We need to work harder, or at the very least I need to stop slacking and go to other games to observe our opponents and their new plays. I won't settle for this mediocre performance.

Public

Another win for Puddlemere and a huge congrats to all players and teams. Also, massive congrats to Aidan for new position in Kenmare; can't wait to play against you!

Otherwise life is the same, but the introduction of kittens into my life has definitely made things a tad, erm, interesting. How can something so small have so much energy? They're little furry bludger-snitches rolled into a tiny purring, mewling ball. They're cute, though.

So, Gofraidh Damhán is out for the remainder of the season. He's well on the way to recovery and uncertain if he'll remain with the Kestrels anyway; contract renewal is coming up.

Riordan Fionola has taken his place as primary Seeker for the next undetermined amount of time.

This being said, there was a need for a reserve Seeker. Was.

I'm back with the Kestrels.

[Sent via Post Office owl around 11am]

Dear Adrian,

I'm writing to you with an unusual request today, in fact it's more like asking for a favour. I need some potions ingredients for my new project which can only be gathered from forests and heavily wooded areas, which I am unable to go to without being triggered. I was wondering if I could pay you to gather these items for me?

Usually I ask a particular assistant at the supply shop, but unfortunately he is currently on an extended holiday-cum-research trip, and my mentor, who I would otherwise ask is away on a painting trip all week and I'd like to start sooner rather than later. Unfortunately her current apprentice has not yet been trained in gathering these particular ingredients and and I really don't want to ask my ex or the prat that doesn't like me this is outside the area of expertise of the other two artists.

As I said I'm happy to pay you for your time and expertise. Some of the items are readily available to buy, but I prefer to have them as fresh as possible, particularly given the scale of the project I'm undertaking I'd like the best ingredients available. Some of the ingredients would be slightly unusual requests which are, as far as I'm aware, particular to the way in which artists use them. For example I know one plant which has use only for its flowers and fresh stems in regular potion making requires the extremely woody roots for my purposes.

If you are able to help me please let me know as soon as possible and I will provide you with a list of ingredients and specific instructions about collection where there are any.

Yours sincerely,

Dean Thomas.

Do you mean to tell me the Falcons are actually going to finish someplace other than the cellar this year?

Haven't been to a match in ages. Figures when I quit watching them play they'd finally improve.

You cannot tell very much about a person by appearance.

You cannot tell if the woman you're trying to pickpocket is able to defend herself.

You cannot tell if she can lamp you.

You cannot tell if she literally hits things for a living.

It might be more obvious in the summer when arms are bare, but not necessarily.

You cannot tell if the person walking behind you will be that woman instead and leap to the defence of someone she doesn't know.

You could stop the dick move of stealing from people, but that seems unlikely. Instead expect to be punched now and then. It only seems fair.

Random thought:

Why does the taste for sweets always occur when you know you shouldn't have them and when you can't have them (because it's bloody well late)?

We have a game tomorrow and I can't sleep.

Finally got a couple of pictures developed to share.

Boys and girls, today we are going to discuss what NOT to do to wildlife. Again.

As fascinating as this job was, I also ended up spending more time on a broom than I think I ever have in one go. Being on the short list to assist the ministry and the ICW with magical animals can be quite entertaining along with horrifying, but I'm not sure my body is ever going to be the same.

Now that I've gotten your attention, here is what I spent several days this past week rounding up and helping to unspell (a job much harder than you'd suspect):

the pics )

I'm pretty sure we found them all. Whale hide is surprisingly hard to be uncharmed, but as they were all enjoying their time in the clouds, I suspect it might have been that they didn't WANT to go back in the water.

But if you happen to see one we missed, let us know, yeah?

I am really sure that we missed the flying clouds of shrimp and krill

I'm very glad I only had animal wrangling duties, and didn't have to deal with the slew of memory charms and such. And minimal paperwork for me.

But boys and girls, let's not charm the giant water mammals to fly in the sky, okay? My body still hasn't forgiven me the broom work.

I've got a small batch of fire in a jar available if anyone's looking as the summer winds down. I know they're more popular in the summer and the winter, so I'll give them at a discount, I'm just cleaning out my storage space.

Also, I'm looking for someone who'd like to help me around the building a bit in the couple weeks - helping me to organize, clean out old ingredients, odd jobs like that. I'll pay well, of course, and you can pretty much make your own hours as long as they're in the day/evening as I'm always in the lab anyway. Plus, if you're interested in potions or herbology (or apothecary work, more generally), it's good experience, too. If anyone's interested, let me know.

This fall weather is so beautiful, but for some reason it always makes me real thoughtful, too. Makes me miss the Burrow, and Fred, Hogwarts.

I always miss Fred more in the fall, I don't know why.

Thank you to everyone who came out on Saturday! We had a great first day and the foyer is nearly finished. Tonight I'm going to head back up and get to work on some of the outside space - now that we have an inside 'staging area' with the foyer, if you will, I want to focus on outside landscaping before it gets too cold.

Special thanks to Melinda & Sweet Nothings for providing coffee and snacks for all the volunteers this weekend!

(Anyone who wants to join me on the property tonight, meet me in front of Finnigan's Pub for the portkey at 4:30).

So we lost this last week. Oh well. Win some and lose some. They played well.

I didn't see the Kestrels game but I was listening to it and Circe alive! I sure hope their seeker recovers soon.

I think my day off today may have actually been more tiring than a normal day at work. My morning run was followed by many, many hours of wedding dress and shoe shopping. It was an experience, but ultimately a good one. It was also successful, which is the most important part. But I'm not going to go into detail about that because a certain someone will be reading this.

Even though I might complain that she's a little over eager, it really did help spending the day with my mum. We managed to finalise the wording for the invites and choose flowers, so now it's her job to bug Dad about those.

Basically, I really deserve this glass of wine that I've just poured. So I'm going to enjoy it and listen to the Quidditch scores in bed.
