After he was sure the Master wasn't following him, the Doctor went back to the TARDIS. Not sure if he wanted his own Master to be there or not, because he knew he wasn't sure how to explain what was wrong, without telling him everything, and he didn't want to tell him everything.

He rattled around for a while, alone, thoughts spinning in his head and getting nowhere. Eventually went out again. And saw that the sky was red, and trees silver, and that was just cruel, because he was still trying to bury the grief for his family and his people, that had been resurrected.

He stumbled around, looking for something, anything, to pull him out his head. Ended up in the hotel lobby. Someone would be there, surely.
