I've come to realise people truly do up and vanish into thin air here. I do not wish to do that to you again, but I fear it is out of my power. I would wish for you to return to your husband and children, but Frankie and AJ need you here so I will not pray for it. Ernie started his inspection work early in the day so he would have the afternoon to spend with his mother. He needed to attend Narcissa's birthday party in the evening so he wasn't sure what other chance he would have to talk to his mother about the truth he learned in the village. He didn't mean to overwhelm her, but he was afraid of losing the chance. The magic could suck her back at any time.

Even though she was used to an infant Ernie, it was still good having her with him. He collected her the day before, but had been careful to keep too much of the truth from spilling. He felt guilty leaving her that morning, but he still had a job to do. However, he packed his hours in by lunch time, picked up lunch from Mike's Corner, and headed home to the house he shared with Rabastan. He muttered the counter charms to the wards, stepped through the door, and resealed the magic before calling for his mother. "Mum? I am home. I brought lunch. It is light because we have Narcissa's party tonight."
