It had been a long time since William had spent this much time with Helena. When they were growing up, they were so far apart in age that sometimes William just wasn't interested in what Helena was doing, or he didn't have the time, or he had too many responsibilities to pay attention to her. When he had heard of her death, he immediately regretted it. If he had been a better brother, would that have saved her? And in turn, would that have let their mother live longer? He had vowed to himself upon Helena's death that if he could do it differently, he would.
Lo and behold, here was his chance. He had ended up in this village and spent pretty much most of his time with his family, though he had met a good share of new people too. Still, he had years to make up to Helena, and who knows how much time he had left here? People apparently came and went as they pleased, or so he'd been told.
They had decided to meet in the kitchens so they could have some breakfast before starting their day. William had always been an early riser, and today he was sitting at the table, eating some bread he'd found and the concoction Helena had introduced to him... what was it... hot cocoa? Something like that. He'd prepared a cup for her as well.
