Lea sat on the roof of the bowling alley doing absolutely nothing. She wasn't thinking. She wasn't fantasizing about Godolfr or worrying about Jasper. She wasn't drawing or reading, and she certainly wasn't checking the journals. All of yesterday, people had begun to pop up in the village. Lots of them. People were getting friends and family members, and Lea refused to think about it. She wouldn't hope or wish or pray or whatever for Toby. She didn't want the magic to make a mistake and bring her the wrong brother, so she was actively keeping her mind blank of anything. She had years of practice in that. It's how she got through so much of what Victor did to her. But the harder a person tries not to think, the more thoughts come to mind. She kept having flashes of things she'd seen during the attack on the village, so she had to force herself to think of something else.
The problem with Lea was that, no matter what, she couldn't let go of the hope. She couldn't let go of the idea of Toby coming to the village, of seeing her little brother again. Most days she could ignore that desire. Most days weren't filled with the random comings of so many others, and try as she might, she couldn't get her brother out of her mind. She wasn't looking at anything in particular. Her eyes weren't even focused when a boy with brown curls was suddenly in her line of sight. She blinked and rubbed her eyes, coming back to herself. She'd thought about him so hard she made herself see things. Shaking her head, she opened her eyes, and the vision was still there. "Toby?" She whispered, a frown creasing her brows. She'd know those curls anywhere, and when he smiled at nothing, she knew. He was older, but it was definitely him. Fighting the tears that threatened to overwhelm her, Lea cried out. "Toby! Don't move. I'll be right down." She stood and apparated to the ground right in front of her brother. "Toby." She pulled him into a tight hug and knew he was real. You can't hug a vision.
