Cook Out

Characters: Reece and OPEN TO ALL
Setting: Courtyard, early evening

Carmel hadn't joked about being given better food for grilling and Reece actually found himself with more to work with than just hamburgers and hotdogs, and despite everything he was almost enjoying himself. It was as close to home as he felt he cold get, decent weather, grill going, even a beer snagged from the bar, because, why not?

It was shockingly normal considering it was going to be followed up by a memorial service for Caroline, a woman he'd barely known but found himself emotionally invested in. Maybe that was just what this was, a new normal that he was still getting used to.

Reflections

Character: Susanna
Setting: The gym, midday

There was essentially nothing that could have pulled Susanna away from the gym now. She'd lapsed just a little in her workouts the past few days, what with everything going on, but no more. Especially now that she had her ballet bar set up. It was just a small detail, not even the most important thing, but it made her feel far more normal than she'd felt since they'd first put those cuffs on her wrists. For the first time since she'd received her gifts for doing that private entry, she was fully dressed as a ballerina: leotard, tights, skirt, shoes.

She had music playing loudly in the gym, truly not caring whether or not anyone came in and disapproved of the volumn or choice in music. She went through exercises that were as ingrained in her as breathing, losing herself in the ritual, the routine of it all. It did a wonderful job of keeping her mind off of the man who seemed to relentlessly linger around the edges of her thoughts.

Reece was not like any man that Susanna had slept with before. He was confusing and frustrating, and she just really didn't want to figure him out. Last night had been a mistake. She really should not have drank with him. She'd said things she shouldn't have. Sure, she hadn't come right out and said anything completely irreparable. She didn't think so, anyway. And this morning, when she'd snagged Reece after seeing that other man leaving him at the park bench, she'd been relieved that he'd seemed more than happy to perform the task of putting the ballet bar together in relative quiet. She hadn't wanted to talk about the night before, and so she was glad that it didn't come up. Not that she'd helped things with that whole touching his hand and saying "Thank you" thing when they were finished. It had felt like more than it should have.

And her thoughts had wandered to him again.

This was ridiculous. Completely and utterly ridiculous. She'd do better to just write him off entirely. Whatever thoughts he might have stirred up in her last night were best left alone. And there really was no reason for Reece to occupy her thoughts so thoroughly anyway. She didn't particularly like him; Ryan's personality was far more to her liking, though she could see now that advertising that would likely make things very difficult for her in the long run. The way Ryan had spoke with her yesterday morning and the night before truly had concerned her once she had enough distance from it to evaluate things. He was not in enough control to be trusted. Not in this situation. God, how she wished they were on the outside, that their every move wasn't being watched.

Susanna sighed in frustration, transitioning from the exercise she was doing to some closing stretches. Her mind was just far too busy to focus on dancing now, and she really ought to go shower and change before her meeting with Wu.

Deceptive Appearances

Characters: Aaron and Edan
Setting: the pool, late morning

Getting going was slower than usual for Edan. She’d barely eaten the day before, too thrown off by Caroline’s death, then the weather and Matt’s visit. He had done as promised, found her food, even if she felt ridiculous, locking herself in the confines of her room over a storm, but what could she do? Much like Matt’s own fear, despite how badly she wanted to get over it, it wasn’t happening.

She was determined to start fresh in the morning, better weather, some sleep under her belt. Of course waking meant she was faced with the ache that Matt still wasn’t there, even though she knew he was only going to stick around until after she fell asleep. And her door was locked. And the administration had another task for them on the journals. She supposed she was supposed to comment on others posts, but outside of voting on a few truths and lies (and smiling at Matt’s), she opted for her normal routine instead. A swim, a shower, then food, despite the later start.

Forced Interaction

Characters: Kyle and Brady
Setting: Kyle's room, 9am

The whole concept of being given a name of someone he had to go have a conversation with was really fucking stupid, but Brady wasn’t really interested in thumbing his nose at the Administration just yet. Eventually, maybe, but not quite yet. At least with the mood Kyle seemed to be, it was bound to be a short conversation. He was a little curious about what had him in pity party mode, as he knew that mindset very well, but he didn’t really care to have a heart to heart. He just wanted to get the whole thing done and over with. And so, when the clock hit nine, he left his room and went straight to room seven, hand lifting to give three firm knocks to the door.

Kyle had been expecting the call, but that didn’t mean that he had been at all looking forward to it. He didn’t want to see anyone today - no matter what certain people he knew here might have in mind. He looked and felt like a mess - he hadn’t slept overnight, his eyes were red rimmed and puffy and he was still in yesterday’s clothes. But talking to this guy seemed to be the quickest way to get rid of him, so he opened the door. Stepping into the doorway, he leaned against the doorpost, holding onto the door lightly at shoulder height with his other hand. “So - we’ve met. What do you want to talk about?” he asked, coldly. Despite the way he looked, his face was a haughty, emotionless mask - as though he were shopping in a high end store, rather than standing at the door of what amounted to his prison cell.

Good morning

Who: Mazie
Where: Outside of her room
When: Morning

Mazie wasn’t really expecting there to be anything outside of her door when she got back from Autumn’s room the night before. She’d made sure to put up that ‘two truths and a lie’ bullshit that they were requiring so she could actually get back into her room, biting back the urge to use it as yet another medium to voice her distaste with the administration. Why the hell were they playing dumb party games when someone had just died?

At least they’d provided the white candles for the vigil. She’d have to get together with Autumn and figure out how to even have a correct vigil. Maybe she could get Autumn or someone else to do the talking and she could just...light the candles or something. When she came back to her room, thinking she needed a change of clothes but also that she’d need to be doing some laundry soon, she came up short by the door at the sight of a Tupperware container and a note by it.

Confused, she knelt down and picked up the note and the container, examining the contents of the plasticware with a raised eyebrow. Someone had peeled her some fruit? And cut it up too. Huh. She’d found worse things on her doorstep at home before, but this was kind of odd. But somewhere in the back of her mind, Mazie was thinking this might be the first fresh fruit she’d eaten in this place. Because she was damn sure gonna eat it. Unless for some reason it smelled funny or she thought it was poisoned or something.

Reading the note, she found herself unable to go into her bedroom just yet. Taking her fruit to pop the top open, she nibbled on a piece of it as she walked down the stairs. Jun-he wasn’t going to poison her, she was pretty sure of that.

Coming up to the arcade game, she found another note and the door ajar to the wiring. After reading it, she grinned and sat down, finally opening the door to view all the wires behind it. “Hell yeah...” She said, taking another slice of apple as she settled in. She had breakfast made for her and he’d managed to crack open her arcade game so she could get to work. This was the start of a very good day for her.

Characters: Carmel and Rusty
Setting: Late morning, kitchen

Carmel cleaned up the kitchen after Evan left. She realized belatedly she’d never really gotten his name, but she would recognize him in the future, so that was a good thing. She had trouble with keeping up with everyone at this point.

Pan cleaned and ready for another comer, she started taking a few things out to prep for potato salad (she’d done only a small batch the other day, and that reminded her, she had to PM Reece soon) and cole slaw, she thought. Maybe some veggie kabobs.

She set the stuff out and went back to the stove to fry up a few slices of bacon real crispy. She’d eat a few, and then she’d use the rest for on top of salads and such. Real bacon bits. Keeping busy helped to level her. She’d keep it up for awhile and then go exercise, probably, before finishing dinner things.

Burning the nest down

Characters: Kasper
Setting: Her room, late morning

Completely aware of just how many cigarettes she had smoked in the last couple hours, Kasper lit up one more for the road after leaving Reggie's room. Her step was quick, racing back to her room to take care of a few things before she went off for her little lunch date with Charlie. Whoever he was.

She had made a point of addressing the little invitation she gave Jeremy earlier on in stopping by, scratching her head to work through why she bothered to make the effort at all. It wasn't really like her. Or maybe with all the chaos evaporating, it was. She wasn't about to go picking it apart though and instead stood up from the chair at her computer, ashes falling on to the desk.

Watching where they landed, Kasper stared down momentarily, glancing along the desk and coming to the realization that she hadn't taken very good care of the place at all. She reached for the ashtray on the far corner and swept up all the ashes with her pinky finger, moving off in to the ashtray. At least it was in use now. She took the little effort to flick the cigarette over it before turning around to the debris of her life upon the floor.

Clothes were everywhere. What was once a mountain of clothes was now a hill, different articles of clothing scattered about it. In a rush, she piled them all together, quickly folding them half-assed before shoving them in to the drawers. It had been a long time since she bothered to take care of herself and her surroundings. Not that she didn't know how but life was always from one place to the next, what was the point of ever settling in? Even she did things like the pile of bedsheets and blankets turned itself in to a nest. There was a space in the middle of it all next to her bed where she had curled up among the pillows and warmth at odd times of the night.

She had a solid six year stretch of taking care of herself. All in all she had done a pretty swell job. Deciding not to dwell on those years, she made her bed with much more care than she had given to her clothing.

Jumping on it to sit back, she stuck one arm behind her head and simply stared at the ceiling. Who really gives a shit? she told herself, nearly jumping off the bed to tear apart her room again. With a funny face, she sat back from her jerked up position and ignored the thought. There was a long wander of her mind that just went wild with memories of the last couple days; the people she met, the things she had done. All of it just seemed so chaotic on its own. None of this needed her to set it off, but it was definitely the place to set her off. But then there was Jeremy. The prick already made her clean up her room. That guy.

She gave herself a little chuckle before finally jumping off her bed. The clouds may have been parting but she made sure to grab the black hoodie still hanging from her doorknob as she left the room.

Breaking and entering

Characters: Jun-he
Setting: Early morning, By the Space Invaders machine and then outside Mazie's room

There was something about the way Jun-he wandered over to the arcade machine sitting all by its lonesome that just seemed suspicious. He wasn't at all intending to come off as though he were really up to something he shouldn't be doing but the circumstances certainly looked otherwise. At least for all he knew, no one was around to see him creep around with the small gardening shovel and pliers he had commandeered from the farm block.

Finishing his smoke, Jun-he looked around him, as though about to break into someone's house, then wandered over from the cafeteria doorway to the Space Invaders game against the outside wall. He bend down and got a good grip on the thing, pulling it so the back end was exposed. Once finished, he crouched down and took a look at the back panel. It wasn't at all complicated. A simple break and enter with a little effort.

Slipping the end of the shovel in to the space between the panel door and rest of the machine, he put a small amount of weight on it to see what would happen. The door moved slightly, but he decided it was best not to straight up break it with simple force. After a little work, he took apart the door, having to practically break his own arms to force a couple of those bolts holding it in place. At least it was done.

Reaching in to his back pocket, Jun-he pulled out two folded up pieces of paper and a pen from his back pocket. "I have opened it for you. Have fun with the inside. - Jun-he" His writing wasn't exactly the best. There was a different stroke involved with English writing that Hangul just didn't have.

With the door done, he headed to the kitchen, placing the two objects on the counter. Once his hands were washed, he nabbed an apple form the bowl of fruits sitting upon it. Though it took him a while, he peeled and sliced it, following with a kiwi, and then a few strawberries from the fridge. He took his time to scrummage through the cupboards to find a plastic container and once h had, he put everything inside, taking it and the rest of his stuff down to Mazie's room.

Jun-he thought about knocking, even placing his hand up ready to do so but after hesitating, he decided otherwise. Taking the second piece of paper form his pocket, he wrote another note. "Good morning, Mazie. Please see your Space Invaders game. - Jun-he". For whatever reason, he just couldn't bring himself to try and give the fruit breakfast to her. After thinking about it, he felt a little silly. This sort of thing was meant for women with way too much time on their hands to fuss. Not that he thought it was what they should do, it was just something of a cultural thing he figured might come off as weird. It probably still would.

Leaving it on the ground in front of her door, Jun-he stared at it for a moment before leaving.
