Different Way of Thinking

Characters: Zach
Setting: A Block

Zach had gotten the message and while he'd left, he hadn't rushed. He'd started in the library, finding a spare sheet of paper and grabbing that, but it wasn't what he was after. Instead he went towards one of the lamps on the study tables, turning it off before unscrewing the bulb and taking that with him instead. He wandered by doors, eventually settling on one, Room 14, setting the lightbulb right outside it.

Task half complete he contemplated the piece of paper, folding it as he walked. When he was done it was hardly a piece of paper anymore, but an origami crane. That he set outside of Ru's room, just to fun. Or to see if she would know it was him. Maybe. Content with the little trick he went back to his room, content to read the posts others were making after making his own.

Meals and Wheels

Characters: Zach and Drea
Setting: Cafeteria, lunchtime

Zach had made his way to the library, finding another book to replace the one left in his old room, upset that it wasn’t Copperfield, but it was hefty enough as it was. He’d made himself lunch as well, settling into the cafeteria book next to him but not open. He was thinking about his new room, Kyle’s old room, and what it meant. Especially with it being Kyle. He was relieved that Ru was on this side of things at least. That made things easier.

I guess I should have left my training wheels on a bit longer. )

the masquerade

Characters: Everyone at the Masquerade
Setting: The courtyard, evening-night

The decorations had been set up with the help of a ton of people, music was getting played, and there were costumes for everyone. The night was going to be great, hopefully, just what everyone needed. Autumn looked around from the second floor balcony, and smiled, thinking this couldn't be better. It was exactly what she'd wanted it to be.

Costume Ideas

Characters: Zach and Kyle
Setting: Cafeteria, afternoon

Zach had found himself talked into going to this ball, deciding it would be informative, at least to watch and maybe he could get closer to Ru. Or someone else. Either way, it was something to do and if the crowd got to be too much, he could always leave. He’d headed to the cafeteria to investigate the costumes. He’d found one that fit him, something suit-like, but old fashioned, like something out of one of his Dickens novels but on his way to find a hat to go with it, he’d been stopped by something else: a set of black wings, menacing, but well made. For some reason it appealed to him, fingers grazing over the feathers.

Imagining

Characters: Zach and Reggie
Setting: the courtyard, early afternoon

Zach had the book, David Copperfield, open in front of him, reading it. He'd made significant progress in the few days he'd had his hands on the book, and despite Ru's challenge, he'd still spent a significant amount of his time alone, but for now he was enjoying the peace of being outdoors, and not confined to his room. Sometimes, that was nice, comforting in a way that four walls could be, but other times, he wanted this, to feel as if solitary wasn't necessary.

Not Quite Lining Up

Characters: Kyle and Zach
Setting: The Courtyard, morning

Kyle knew he was twitching. How could he not be? Adam was down in the court room getting who knew what punishment for hitting a guy who, by all rights, deserved far more than what he got. If you believed Adam - which Kyle did, without a shadow of a doubt.

Sure, the artist knew he could have turned up for the hearing, but he had concluded that would be a bad idea. He had barely been able to keep his temper in check last night. He doubted his presence there would do Adam any favours at all. So, he'd stayed away - and twitched. After he'd returned to his room, he had sorted all his works, tidied his room some. He had taken a shower and changed. He'd actually laid down to sleep at one point (sitting the best part of the night on the floor, leaning against bars, was not a great inducement for quality sleep...), but he hadn't been able to get his mind to settle. In the end, he'd left and gone for a walk. He hoped some air would clear his head and maybe he'd find something to distract himself with.

Zach was still growing accustomed to things, but being out in the open was a new thing he was learning to enjoy. He had his book, reading in the courtyard, intent on putting distance between himself and his room.

the first stop

Characters: Ru and Open
Setting: the pool, morning

After she woke up to the bizarre voting platform on the computer, she glanced through other things, the welcome post, some of the journals, and then decided there was too much to read. If she went through everything, she'd be there all day. So, she looked at the map instead, and saw there was a pool. An actual pool.

Looking though her things, it appeared that she'd been provided a swimsuit. It was a black one piece suit, with electric blue accents. She pulled it on, grabbed a towel, and headed for the room, not difficult to find what with being not far from her room. She'd explore more fully later. For now? She wanted to swim.

Walking into the room, she set her towel down on one of the lounge chairs in the room, then after she stretched, burn scars on her back pulling a little, she walked to the edge of the water to stare down into it. It was still, reflecting her back. Slowly, she dipped a toe in, to watch the rings spread out on the surface.

Well This is Curious

Characters: Zach
Setting: B Block, evening

The elevator was curious. More curious than the shackles (since those were hardly new) and the blindfold (new, but utterly unsurprising). After being dumped in it, holding a duffel bag and right his glasses, Zach wondered when the last time he'd actually been in an elevator was. The answer came easily. Two years, twenty-six days, and possibly four and a half hours. Depending on what time of day it was. It had been in the district attorney's office. Away from his meeting with the DA after agreeing to a plea bargin. How time flew.

The doors opened to an empty room, no bars, nothing that resembled the supermax prison he'd apparently left behind. His steps were reasonably measured, walking without any sense of worry or concern. It was logical to see the way the doors outside the room he'd first arrived in numbered up and correlated to the number on the key he'd also been given. And from what he could gather, room 35 wasn't far from his origination point.

For a long moment though he stood, staring at the oversized garden in front of him. There was nothing like this at his prison, though he'd spent more time in a box alone than out in the open. Maybe there was. It wasn't about to earn privileges to see it any time soon. It was probably for the best he'd arrived as the sun was starting to sink below the walls as well, what with being outside. That wasn't a place he saw often either, and the sun might have been too much. More than likely would have been. He didn't want to admit it but there was no avoiding it.

Curiouser and curiouser Alice. Down the rabbit hole and back again.

Letting himself into his room, or what he assumed was his when he saw it, he actually looked impressed, though there was no one there to see it. He didn't turn on the lights, not entirely needing them, but set his things down and looked around. The computer, another delight that didn't show on his features, was blinking and it only took a moment to read the message and process it, but just for the sake of it Zach read it twice more. He didn't need to. It was burned in his memory, but nonetheless, he read it twice more still.

Setting his bag down he sat at the desk for a moment, surprised to have a real seat, a real bed. This was definitely new.
