July 27th

W E A T H E R
The day beginning overcast, and a light rain starts around 1pm which continues throughout the day.

Through a small icon on the desktop, camera feeds can be accessed from people’s computers today. Block B can spy on Block A, and vice versa but cannot look at feeds from their own block. Camera feeds include: public areas, and main rooms of individual rooms and include sound. Today there is also a feed available of the bar in the basement.

There is a cardboard box full of bits and pieces in the cafeteria of block A with Kyle’s name on. It is filled with scraps of beads, material, broken jewellery and other items of ‘junk’.

C O M M U N I C A T I O N S

Everyone receives the following message - the message will blink until it is read:-

Good morning,

As you are no doubt aware, the aim of this programme is to build a community. The last few days have been designed to highlight the relationships which you have and have not made, and to focus your attention towards developing new relationships in a limited environment. Now, we want to encourage you to work together with your fellow residents to achieve a common goal. As such, today you have a team goal which requires everyone to individually participate, thus playing their part.

You are each required to find an object of your choosing from a communal area. This object can be anything you wish. You are required to write a public journal entry detailing what that object is without actually naming it. You are required to then leave that object outside the door of your choice. This should be the door of another resident.

For those of you who have been left objects, your goal is to match your object up with the relevant journal entry and respond to that journal entry.

Only when the object which you placed has been ‘matched’ will your task for the day be completed.

If and when each member of your block has completed their task, your block will be able to access the basement, where the laundry room bar will be open until midnight tonight. There will be no access for your block until everyone in that block has completed the task. If one or more members of your block fail to complete their task, you will not be able to access the bar. You may help each other complete tasks, but it is not permitted to specifically tell people what object you placed. We suggest that you ensure that you are not seen placing your object by the person whose room you place it before. Please do not place more than one object. Such events will risk disqualification and lead to your group not being able to access the bar.

If both blocks complete the task, you will all be able to meet up in the bar. You will not, however, be able to gain access to the opposite block, only be able to access the basement and your 'home' block. This includes the laundry room.

Thank you,

The Administration

Wes receives the following message:-

Dr Andersen

Should your block complete the task set and access to the basement be granted, you will also be able to access the clinic until midnight tonight. There you will find medical files for all facility residents.

The Administration

Kyle receives the following message:-

Mr Van Allen

You will find a box of assorted items we feel may suit your requirements by the elevator.

The Administration

Pippa receives the following message:-

Dear Ms Abraham,

We have been carefully watching your behavior and conduct since your placement in the facility. You, out of all of the residents, seem to have the most problems with acting in a community constructive way. We would suggest that you take steps to improve your ability to act in conjunction with a group, or else we will have to reconsider your participation in this facility.

Due to an error on our part, which we greatly apologize for, you have been misassigned. Your correct place is in Block A. Please report to room 12 which is your new room assignment. You have 30 minutes to reach block A. We suggest you get moving. If you do not comply with this, you will be removed from the facility with no further warning. Everyone receives a message

Greetings,

First of all, we would like to congratulate you on a successful group gathering! One of the cornerstones of a community is being with said community. We are glad it seemed to turn out well.

We have a task related to it for everyone. For those who attended: we would like you to do a public or private journal entry detailing what your costume was, why you chose it, how you felt about it, and whether you feel your choice of costume has effected you or your place in the facility at all.

For those not in attendance, we will require a journal entry about why you did not attend, what stopped you from going, and how you feel about the party and those who did go.

This is a compulsory exercise, and anyone who fails to complete it - or is deemed to not have completed it properly - will be punished. Said punishment will be dictated by us, not the jury.

Have a wonderful day!

The day dawns cool, though temperatures slowly rise during the day to a pleasant mid seventies by afternoon. The evening is clear and warm.

The cameras seem to be back to normal, though occasional glitches in the system still have camera feeds popping up on people’s monitors.

The cafeteria is full of costumes and masks! All hanging, nicely organised, on rails are a huge range of costumes - all kinds of colours, styles and designs. Whatever anyone may wish for for a masquerade ball, it’s there - and in the correct size too (though there are not multiple sizes of the same design). The quality of all the costumes and the masks is excellent.

Dear Mr James

Thank you for your enquiry. We cannot, however, support gambling within the facility and, as such, will not be assisting in any credit transfer.

Good day,

We’re certain most of you if not all are already aware, we have our first graduate! Ms. MacKenzie has left the facility to go jump into her new life. We are extremely excited and proud that a member of this community has gone through and succeeded. It is possible, we know quite a few of you have been skeptical. We hope you gain inspiration from Ms. MacKenzie’s brilliant accomplishment and trust you will all strive to gain this achievement for yourself. You can all do it!

As for the roles your fellow participants have requested:

The following roles have been accepted:-

  • IT Support - Zachary
  • Engineer - Ru
  • Language Coordinator - Rosa
  • Detention - Jason

Furthermore, there are new rules in place from today onwards, which have been requested via your facility governor. These are:-

  • Any resident may be the subject of a poll to determine interest in having their full criminal file supplied to the rest of the facility. If a majority vote in favor of its' release, it will be supplied no later than the following day.
  • The governor has the right to organize a regular patrol group within the facility. Patrol is not a recognized occupation, however volunteers will receive 5 credits per patrol shift taken.
  • Law enforcement officers are hereby empowered to conduct intrusive searches of the confines of others’ room without notice where there is reasonable suspicion of a rue breaking having been committed by that resident.

Thank you for your participation.

Wu receives a private communication from the Administration.

Mr. Zhang,

We commend you for your take charge attitude and proactive policies. You are very much taking the role you have been given and doing wonderful things with it. We are impressed by the display of leadership with which you are going forth.

Your request for video footage, however we must decline. Whilst we understand why you would want this, it is a violation of privacy, and of our company policy on such matters. Our legal team assures us it is not public record, will never be public record, and we will not be giving anyone videos taken in the facility for any reason.

Keep up the good work.

We remind those who have not already been assigned a role that if they wish to put their name forward for any other role, they should do so.

There are spaces still available for roles in detention and the facility store. Anyone wishing to be considered for those roles should post a public entry in their journal stating why they would be good for the role.

If anyone wishes to be considered for a new role, then that person should post a public entry first detailing what the role is and why that role would be for the benefit of the facility and community at large. The person should then detail why they think that they would be good in that role. Other residents may also put their names forward for consideration for that role.

If a person can gather enough support and if the role is reasonable, then they will be officially appointed to that role.

Roles which have been suggested to date are:

IT Support, Substitute/Fill In, Language Coordinator, Engineer, Dragon Slayer.

Furthermore, there have been requests for certain items. These are now available for purchase in the facility store.

EVENT

E V E N T

July 14th

E V E N T S

Mid afternoon, there is a communication on all computers. The monitor will blink until the message is read.

Thank you everyone for your speedy responses! We have tallied the votes, and are proud to present to you your election results. All locked areas will now open with a scan from the appropriate parties.

The following have been voted into a position. Not all free positions have been filled. We hope eventually in the future, all positions will be, but until then, everyone will need to make do.

Governor: Wu
Law Enforcement: Jae, Brady and Aaron
Detention: Evan, Reece and Ryan
Health and Fitness: Susanna
Goods and Services: Grace, Edan and Kyle
Librarian: Matt
Farmer: Charlie
Maintenance: Reggie
Cleaning: Mojo, Jim and Meg
Technical Maintenance: Mazie
Bar: Adam, Jeremy and Jackson
Entertainment: Autumn, Eric and Pippa
Governor's Advisor: Wren

We have also had other suggestions. The position of Advisor was lobbied for and won by Ms. Everdeen. Others have made suggestions. We will list them here. Any person who wishes to be considered for a role (and who has not already been appointed to a role) should post a public entry making a case for the position itself, including why they consider it necessary and beneficial to the facility. They should also make a case as to why they should be appointed to the role. If there is enough support in a second round of voting, the position will be made official.

IT Support, Substitute/Fill In, Language Coordinator, Engineer, Dragon Slayer

Wu also gets a response.

Dear Mr Zhang

Thank you once again for your response. You are, however, mistaken in your assertion that lack of memory equals lack of consent. To correct your misinterpretation of US law, we hereby supply you with the federal definition of rape.

United States Federal Law [Title 10, Subtitle A, Chapter 47X, Section 920, Article 120] defines rape as:

(a) Rape.— Any person subject to this chapter who causes another person of any age to engage in a sexual act by—
(1) using force against that other person;
(2) causing grievous bodily harm to any person;
(3) threatening or placing that other person in fear that any person will be subjected to death, grievous bodily harm, or kidnapping;
(4) rendering another person unconscious; or
(5) administering to another person by force or threat of force, or without the knowledge or permission of that person, a drug, intoxicant, or other similar substance and thereby substantially impairs the ability of that other person to appraise or control conduct

The event to which you are referring do not fit this definition. Ms. Mills may claim lack of memory of the event, but that does not mean she did not consent at the time. The footage shows no evidence that she was in any way forced. We suggest that you speak to Ms. Mills to clarify the situation and use caution with regard to the face value of what you are told. We, of course, can give no judgement as to honesty against memory, but it seems clear that one is lacking.

Hers would certainly not be the first drunken tryst that later one wanted to forget.

We will not correspond further in this matter. If the law enforcement team, which is to be announced later today, wish to investigate, that it their business. Our involvement is at an end.

The Administration

Thank you for your request for a new room, please clear out and lock your current room and deposit your room key in the mailbox . You will find that room 40 has been unlocked for you and the key is waiting in the desk drawer.

The Administration

To Wu

Dear Mr Zhang

Thank you for your request for further information with regards to the night of July 7th and morning of July 8th, however the request must be refused. It is not our policy to provide recorded footage to residents within the Facility for reasons of confidentiality.

Furthermore, and following discussions with our legal advisors and review of the footage, there is no evidence of any ‘violation’ of Ms Mills having taken place. It would therefore be inappropriate of us to provide you with any further information in this regard.

The Administration

To Meg

Dear Ms Mills

Following on from events in the Facility, and complaints to ourselves by residents, we have taken steps to put in place an internal law enforcement, judgement and imprisonment system. As such, and again following on from complaints to ourselves from residents, we do not intend to get involved in internal enforcement or evidential matters.

However, we will state that the camera footage which we have shows no sign of non-consensual activities. As such we are not ‘protecting’ anyone. Our legal advisors have thoroughly gone over the footage, and your active and willing participation in the events in question is clear.

Furthermore, we would advise against your inciting others to take up your ‘cause’. Your poor life decisions should not upset the community as a whole, merely because you claim ignorance now. We recommend you not drink so heavily in the future.

The alleged offences which took place during the blackout we can make no comment on. The cameras were not functioning during this time. We cannot know whether or not the same party was involved at that time as was seen on camera with yourself in the laundry room.

DAY ELEVEN

E L E V E N

July 14th

W E A T H E R
Another hot day dawns, with temperatures reading the high eighties, low nineties. There’s a sunshower in the middle of the afternoon, but it’s short and clears up quickly. Beyond the quick shower, the skies remain mostly clear.

E V E N T S

Haruko wakes up in room 13. Rosa wakes in room 36.

There have been several changes to the facility since the shutdown overnight. The bar has been removed from the cafeteria and there is a new bar and nightclub area in the basement. The basement level has been expanded. There is now a large store and a maintenance room. There is also now a suite of law and order type rooms - detention cells, a law enforcement office and a court room. All of these areas are lockable (save for the court room, which remains unlocked at all times) and all areas in the basement have electronic access points. Currently all are locked. They can only be unlocked by way of swiping the QR code of a resident with the correct role (which means until voting is over, the only rooms which can be accessed are those in the medical facility - the codes of Becka, Cal and Violet will open these).

On the second level of Block A there is also another new room. This is the governor’s office. Again, this can only be accessed by the QR code of whoever holds that role. It will remain locked until voting is over.

Each computer monitor blinks with a message. It will not stop blinking until the message is read.

Good Morning

Thank you for participating in job related activities. We were very pleased to see so many of you stepping up to take responsibility and campaign for your desired positions.

Voting

As suggestions have been put forward for other positions within the facility, we have added a further section to our voting list for your convenience.

Please refer to the voting suggestions which were sent to your yesterday, and take the time to put in your votes. More detailed job descriptions can be found here. Please vote for no more than one person for each category. Those suggested previously are not the only people you can vote for--you are free to vote for anyone for any role. You are permitted to vote for yourself. In the ‘other’ section, you are free to fill in positions and your votes for those positions.

Please place your votes by commenting back to this notice. You will be unable to see other people’s votes.

We should be grateful if you would place your votes early today to allow us to tally the results and get back to you as soon as possible.

Once everyone has voted, we will simply tally them up, and fill the positions with the top voted people. No one will be voted in for two positions, and we will work accordingly with that.

Thank you in advance for your participation! We hope this helps all of you feel more secure and part of a community.

Seven residents will sit on this panel each day (which will only convene as and when it is necessary) and majority rules. It is the job of this jury panel to fix punishments. Credits

Onto other matters - specifically, money/credits. No one is expected to fill a role for free. Each position will earn credits--though merely being a participant in this facility will earn you credits each day as well. No one will be left with nothing. We have opened up new areas and rooms, please check your facility maps on the computers which have been updated accordingly! Some areas will be inaccessible until the voting is in, as many areas are locked with barcode scanner door locks.

You have all been given metal tags that will keep track of your credits, each specifically coded to you by a QR code set into the metal. These are simple and initially are threaded onto a steel bracelet. You are free to decorate them or keep them however you wish. They can easily be made into jewelry, or keychains and basic materials to individualize them are located in the activity room.

These tags will also record your facility position (if you obtain one) and can be used to access any area which is may be restricted to that role.

The tags are located in named boxes in the cafeteria, please collect them as soon as possible. You will find that your box can only be opened with a four digit PIN code. This code is the same as that used to access your individual computers. This can also be used to check your credit balance through the computers.

Each resident has a starting balance of 50 credits. Credits can then be earned on a daily basis in a number of days:-

Every day good behavior - 10 credits
Role Participation - 20 credits
Volunteering to help with a role for which you do not hold an official position - 5 credits

Anyone not following the rules/etc, will receive no credits the next day.

Telephone system

We have added a call system to your computers. This will allow you to contact other residents remotely. Each computer has a microphone and speakers. If you prefer to use a headset, these can be purchased through the store.

You will find a contact list in the telephony program. You can contact other rooms and also the various offices around the facility. Communal areas cannot be contacted in this way.

The Administration

Violet receives the following message:

Thank you for contacting us with your concerns. We do not, however, feel that at the present time this would be in the best interests of someone who is showing promise within the program. Changes have been made within the facility which should address many of your concerns. The situation will be kept under review.

The Administration

On Pippa and Ryan’s computers, a second message pops up the moment the first is closed.

The group has spoken. You are not blending. Try harder.

New residents receive this welcome message on their computer. The message blinks until it is read.

OOC notes: Update your friends list

The FAQs have been updated to take into account the new changes. Also there are new information pages here and here

Please post your votes for each of your characters to this post. All comments are screened for now, but will be unscreened once voting is over.

All residents receive the following message on their computers. This message blinks until read:-

Greetings,
After much consideration, and taking into account as much as we could from your valued input, we have opted to design a societal system for you. We have put forth certain ‘occupations’, that you can be voted in for. Yes, all positions, from law enforcement to shop keeper will be voted upon by the community at large. This is your society, you get to deign who belongs where.

We have come up with a list of positions, and suggestions for each. Please take the time to make a case for yourself, should you wish your fellow residents to vote for you, for whichever position you desire. Conversely, if you do not wish to be voted into a position, you may also make a plea to opt out. You will see that some roles require more than one person - the number of people suggested for each role is indicated in brackets.

Each resident can only take a single role, though some residents have been put forward for more than one role. Residents who already have positions within the Facility have not been put forward for any further roles. Currently, the taken positions are:-
